Wait... I'm the bad guy?

Stefan Williams

JOHN WICK 2,3,4!!! Why aren't you guys watching the sequels? Please

Manospondylus

Ohhhh I love this based movie. Note: Not meaning the Nazi/racist part as Alex has assumed in his defamatory post.

Movie Munchies

We’ve decided to go with other movies first for now, but we really appreciate the suggestion! 😊❤️

Looney

I haven't watched this movie in ages. Never expected to see it pop up on the Munchies. Super excited for this. 🔥

One Filthy Pilot

If a biopic movie was made about my life, it would be titled "Falling Up".

David Turgeon

The first Wick was watchable, but the others grew tiresome. Too many good movies should come before 2,3,4.

Red Spengler

Just remember: this is what traffic jams do to some people.

GBprime

movie munchies teamI just want to say fabulous reaction, like, always. I think I remember suggesting this movie a while ago anyways, keep up the great work like always. Sending much support.🙂

Israel Sosa

This is such a great movie. Michael Douglas plays this role superbly.

Manospondylus

Shelia from the fast food place is an early teenage crush of mine. So hot.

Mr. Writhms

Great choice, Munchies! Falling Down is like the unofficial Grand Theft Auto movie. A man gets out of his car, aquires weapons and goes on a shooting/killing spree along the way using various weapons. He stops at "Burger Shot" and "Ammunation". He ends up using a rocket launcher. The police chase him. Then WASTED.

Bill Bryant

Great movie. I always felt sorry for him, he clearly had a mental breakdown. I have sympathy for people who are struggling with mental health, and you know life can be very hard sometimes. In an interview Michael Douglas (the lead actor) said he felt this was the role he was most proud of. That says a lot, he's a fine actor.

RichieBIV

Yeah, this one's a classic. One of my favorite movies. I used to watch this movie ALL the time. There are so many lines from this movie I still quote... "Mfer give me your mfking ... briefcase!" 😂 "They used this, man! They used this! Hear that? They USED this!" Man, I love this movie. 😂 This is one of the great Joel Schumacher movies. Y'all should definitely go down the Schumacher road for a little while. Everybody's been telling y'all to watch A Time to Kill forever... put it on the list. The "I'm not economically viable" guy? 😂 That's Vondie Curtis-Hall. He wrote and directed a movie called Gridlock'd with Tupac Shakur, Tim Roth and Thandiwe Newton. Put that one on the list too. It's a good one. But yeah... Falling Down. Classic. 🍿🎞️ P.S. ☹️Don't go down the Batman Forever Schumacher lane

Andy

Does anyone know if they watched The Karate Kid 2 yet?

Chris Kodama

Movie Munchies is doing a reaction to 12 Angry Men?!?! I hope it's the original one from 1957 (it's as old as I am) and not one of the remakes. Really enjoyed watching this reaction a lot. It was interesting to watch Chi and Katie's reactions to the movie as it does bring up so many conflicting emotions while watching it. Yes, D-FENS does many things that are unlawful but you can't help but root for the poor guy because the world has crushed him down so much. What I like about when Chi and Katie are reacting together is how different they are and how they compliment each other so well. I love watching Chi's facial expressions to whatever is going on on the screen while Katie is reacting in a more verbally expressive way (often yelling or swearing at the screen) and getting all worked up. Chi will sometimes say something in a softer, calmer voice but what she says can be pretty shocking (and often times kinda funny). It was a real treat watching them as they reacted to this movie. The director, Joel Schumacher, has done many good movies that Movie Munchies might want to consider reacting to. St. Elmo's Fire (1985), The Lost Boys (1987), Flatliners (1990), The Client (1994), A Time to Kill (1996), 8mm (1999) and Veronica Guerin (2003). The last movie is based on a real events.

Looney

Pretty sure they haven't. I was really hoping they would. Part 2 is my favorite one.

Movie Munchies

Wait and see! 😊 We hope you’ll enjoy the surprise! ❤️

Digitalversager

Great movie. I remember finding it boring when I first saw it because I was far too young to grasp all the social and psychological facets of the story. It wasn't until a few years later that I truly learned to appreciate the film. D-Fens and Prendergast are essentially mirror images of each other. You could say they both find themselves in a shitty situation, yet they handle it in completely different ways. While D-Fens completely loses his mind and goes on a violent rampage, the other stoically endures his circumstances with patience, empathy, and composure. Michael Douglas plays D-Fens brilliantly; in every scene, you can sense that simmering rage within him threatening to erupt. For me, it is one of his best acting performances. That was a great reaction, as always, ladies.💜

Movie Munchies

Hope you enjoy watching it with us! ❤️

It's great on so many different levels. One of my all time favorites

Movie Munchies

Thank you so much! 😊 We really appreciate the support and the recommendation! ❤️

Movie Munchies

I'm curious to see her too! 😆❤️

Movie Munchies

Absolutely, it’s such a powerful performance. ❤️

Alex Anderson

Funny how Katie was rooting for Pendergast's wife the whole time even though she was an obvious thorn in his side.

Alex Anderson

You love the racist parts. Unfortunately for you, D-Fens doesn't side with the full blown Nazi.

Miou-Miou!

when i saw this as a kid i was on his side, all he did was get angry at society and what had happened to society.. he tried to do what his country had told him to do, he worked for the defense contractors thinking he was helping out only to watch his life go down the drain, of course he would spiral out of control.

Richard Scott

Oooh yes! Great choice. This movie is INTENSE. 🤣

Rob M

I'm really happy you decided to watch this movie. It's not an easy movie to watch for some. William Foster and Detective Prendergast were "two sides of the same coin" for many reasons. At the start of the movie, they are literally in the same physical place, but in their lives they were in the same figurative place. Both characters couldn't see their daughters anymore. Both characters were at the end of their careers. Both characters just wanted to be done with the day and be home. Clearly, William didn't like not having control and thought he knew what was best for everyone. William went nuts when he couldn't have what he wanted--even the most trivial thing like his daughter not liking the horse sent him over the edge. Prendergast was accommodating, tolerant, and compassionate. The thing is, Prendergast could have just as easily lost his cool when his wife was over-reacting, when the police chief pretended to know him but was faking, when his office played the prank with the sand in the desk. Prendergast kept himself together and only asserted himself when it was appropriate and justified. The story is an interesting way of seeing how two people in "similar" positions in life ended up going down different paths that would cross again at the end. Thank you Chi and Katie! Have a good day!

chris brown

Yess Great movie will enjoy watching this and 12 angry men next week The Munchies are picking great movies. Hope they react to Soldier (1998).

tony

I think I suggested this movie a couple of weeks ago. Thanks for reacting to it. Now for Wargames and Flipped (2010)

I've begun to notice.... a "pattern"... I'll chalk it up to cultural, temporal, and language barriers. And yes, a thorn. If it was wrapped in barbed wire, soaked in poison, and jabbed into an eye.... Pendergast needs to get over his guilt thing or whatever that is ffs. A few more years with that harpy, without the distraction of daily scumbags at work, and he might end up being [Not Economically Viable]. Chi was great as always. The voice of reason during the chaos. I would have preferred to also see Hella's reaction to this one though.

Stephen Matthews

"some of his crashouts are valid" i think thats the whole point of how and why they made this character the way he is. Theres some things that he says that is unhinged, and other stuff, relatable, rationale and logical. Its the juxtaposition of an individual person that has steped over the line, anyone can have the morals/values of this guy, yet not go scorched earth, and at the same time can. Were all have this capacity within us, yet we dont act on it because we have a grounding. This whole movie is about the struggles of mental illness, and the weight, pressure of daily life and 'economical viability' that runs our livelihoods. cool film, great reaction. also i think i've been watching you guys enough, you actually showed up in a dream last night XD

Manospondylus

Now you think you have the power of mind reading?

Andy

They Loved number 1 so much I thought they would have by now

Alex80

I love this movie. Great reaction! For another good Michael Douglas movie, watch the thriller movie The Game. It'll mess with your head!

Andy

Does Chi remember the police officer he was in The Godfather movies he played Tom the lawyer

Andy

RIP to the GREAT Robert Duvall

DC

As a full time caregiver for my wife, I might see this a little differently. The detective is retiring because he loves his wife, but it's not really what he wants. If he's not really committed, he's going to have a miserable retirement.

Piranther

This makes me think of 2 Spike Lee movies you should watch, so you don't get a one-sided view of the US. Do The Right Thing and School Daze

Kris Wustrow

hey Chi, did you like that main actor, Michael Douglas? One of his best films is called "THE GAME" -- you will love that one!

Gaëtarrow

Hello Munchies !! Well, Yet again a full discovery for me. The only thing I looked is the french titles : " L'enragé" (the enraged/ Mad one). Let say with a title like that, I'm not sure we gonna laugh often, but I cuold be surprised. let's see that!! "we see them suffer the pain" What !?? 🤣🤣 Evil Chi is in good shape today!😅 Yeah !! Katie, I had this feeling of falling and getting up in panic right away. I read it's a mechanicism of the brain. If you dream that you die, you brain make you "panic" (or better said "put all your nervous system in overcharge") to make you feel that you are still alive. It's bassicaly like lightnint up all the electricity in a house t make sure they are still current. For the movie Did you recognize the main actor Chi ? If I tell you Hank Pym in Ant-man? 😉 "Naughty, naughty" 😅 I'm not sure it will be enough to calm them down 😁. But here it's very funny. Don't worry, traffic jam are hell everywhere ! 😁 "going home" 🤣 Oh no.....From the bat to the knife. In video game, we would call it an upgrade. here, it's very scary ! then what? he gonna get a gun ?? (a few minutes later, "me and my big mouth....I really need to shut it !!!🤣😨) "everyone but him" Clearly, those gangster really are bad shooters! I'm with Katie, the captain clearly doesn't take good care of his team. Losing a child is a big problem and he doesn't even know that !!!??? Yes, they have a restraining order. no less than 100 feet from them. From experience, some homeless can really be obnoxious that much. One even tried to pickpocket me trying to "play football" with me where I say to him to leave. I had to scream that I feeled his hand in my pocket and threatning to call the police on him! "The customer is always wrong" If only I could say that at work ! 🤣🤣 Yeah, Sheila is either way a bad actress, or enjoying the situation too much! 😅 Wait...How many guns did he have in his bag ??? Shoot the phone "I think it's out of order", I'll be honest this one was funny! and I think I would had the same idea in my head...🤣 But hopefully for everyone I don't have weapons. ok the shop-seller is both H*omophobic, sexist and clearly a Neo-N*zis !! ( he has H*tler's picture !!) Am I a monster not feeling sorry for his death and more for "D-fens" losing it and ending to kill? (honest question) "Protect from the comunism"? in 1993?? the cold war is over! But after the street, he clearly became cruel. There's no other word for how he spoke to the guy with the heart attack....and the more he goes, the more he become crazy and impossible to speak with... Ok, the ex-wife is dumb.... Why hiding in a place where there's no way to run from?! But yes, Kissing her felt very disturbing. For the conclusion Well, I understand why the french title became the "enraged". This movie is hard to judge. As Katie said, sometimes, you understand his breakdown... I'll be lying if I say I never thing about doing the same sometimes (even to him), and clearly not the only one. all of us may think to beat someone annoying you at some point. But as Pendergast said "who gave him the righ to do it?" and he did go too far. having a breakdown, screaming and hitting someone on the moment is one things.... but here, he's on perpetual anger and ready to explode. I know what's like to always having to hold on...I have some anger issues and stress can rise very quick with me (sometimes just by misunderstanding someone voice tone.... and anger is there... Yeah , it's hard to live with and to control. but I'm better at it than as a teeneager 😊) so I understand him very well. but even me will "only joke" about shooting a bazooka on the street (to relieve stress! putting it out by making fun of it! not actually do it ! or mocking a dying guy...that's not fun !! (the only case I don't feel sorry for his victim: the shop-guy he killed....But I don't feel proud about it either...) Again, Hard to judge: he's clearly in the wrong, no debate! but very hard to not feel like him in some scene (mostly in the begining or when he's pissed at the rich guys/plastic surgeon. because, well, anyone can think the same...) the movie really do a great job to put us in his shoes to tell us: look what can happen if you don't control yourself. (In an exagerate way, I agree! And I must be exagerating too...) But I really loved Pendergast! yeah, his team/captain and his wife are the worst. But I can see the opposition : "D-fens" is letting every little detail pissing him of and let go his rage. Pendergast is taking it everything calmly and never let it go. he only allow himself to raise the voice a little with his wife when he needed to (even you agreed). but the punch and the "F*ck you captain"....was maybe less neccesary! (maybe, a way to show he can lose it too, but more controlled...I don't know, just a theory) Really good movie...Who made me thought a lot as you saw! Thanks for the discovery ! (eager to discover "12 angry man" too, I know the name but never saw it) Have a beautifull day Munchies !!

Gaëtarrow

all my good wish and sympathy to you and wife! be strong and good luck!

I miss Hella in Movie Reactions! What happened?

I don't think the Munchies got a lot out of this movie unfortunately.... As they seemed to miss some key elements of the story. I've seen this movie a few times over the years, and have had different take-a-ways at times. I'll try to summarize some key points that the Munchies overlooked. If he was actually nutz, he would have been walking around saying something like "There are many water pistols, but this one is MINE. Without me, my water pistol is useless. And without it, on a very very hot day, I am Useless..." He, like Elon Musk, was a literal rocket scientist. He dealt with precision on a daily basis. Everything he did at work demanded almost perfection. This was who he is. It's not something that you just turn off after work. Imagine if Elon decided one day, to just stop being quirky. He couldn't. All the people in his life, either accept it, or reject it. It's just who he is. Now consider his situation. After a lifetime of training and performing in his expert level field, through no fault of his own, he was deemed unnecessary and basically discarded... His exact word was "obsolete". He had completely invested himself into a system, only to have that system betray him. Taking away his dignity and his very identity. Then, unable to work, because he was overqualified for most other occupations, and doesn't have the education to take a alternative high level position in another field, he moved back in with his mother... She described him as going entire meals without saying a word. And it frightened her. But we see on the home videos a completely different man. We see the version of him before he was a broken man. He was kinda ocd maybe, or a perfectionist. And mostly, he was definitely a jerk. However, what actually broke him? Being unemployed and too ashamed to even tell his other. Not allowed to see his daughter. He couldn't even afford to pay for his daughter.... And that fact alone wrecked him emotionally, as it challenged his own ideas of manhood.. He reminded his ex-wife of her promise. The solemn marriage vows they took: "Till death do us part".... Being a man of precision, when he said those vows, he literally meant it. It's not "until you find someone better" or "until you get tired of my overbearing personality" So he saw her as a liar and a betrayer. If you don't keep the biggest promise you can make, I don't see that he's wrong. By the end, he obviously needed help. Some kind of support. And no one was there.. He was, who he was. He didn't randomly change. And possibly, he needed mental help then also, but instead. His wife divorced him, and got a restraining order against him, even though he NEVER physically abused her. By this logic, maybe Perdergast should divorce his wife and get a restraining order?? She was 1000x more verbally and emotionally volatile than Bill (D-FENS). Regarding his encounters throughout the day: The first one at the Korean man's store. Using the online inflation calculator. I've determined that the $ 0.85 price of a single can of coke/soda is equivalent to $2.65 in today's money. That's part of why he got so pissed off..... He's already broke. The owner insists he purchase something when he only needed some change. A small kindness, that was refused. Then the insult of the price on top of that. Then when he objects, the owner grabs a weapon from under the counter.... Sure, he completely overreacted. But they were both wrong ~ The gang members were looking for trouble. They found it. It's interesting to me that the Munchies said something like "he ran away after one hit???" I attribute this to modern action films and superhero movies... In real life, yea. One hit solid with a bat, and most people are done. The violence in this movie is actually very realistic. Movies like The Raid are beyond fantasy... The grumpy old men at the golf course brought it on themselves.. Bill was taking a short-cut, that was clearly marked. He completely ignored the signs and he trespassed anyway. He was wrong. Does that give the old man the right to physically attack him??? NO. He tried to beam his with a golf ball. Again, he overreacted. But who's more wrong? Someone walking where they shouldn't, or someone trying to knock someone's face in with a golf ball because of it ~ At the plastic surgeon home. When he hear gunshots and sirens, he took the little girls hand and led her to safety. It was instinctual. He had NO intentions of using her as a shield or hostage. And he panicked when saw the blood from his hand on her. When they suggested that he was some kind of hostage taking terrorist, he because insulted. Because that's not how he sees himself because that's no who he is. As mentioned earlier, his identity was already under scrutiny, this only put more gas on the fire.... Life is a matter of perspective, and how we react to it is our CHOICE, and we all must make that decision individually. And no, it's not fair... It never was, and never will be... /Hail Hydra 💦 🔫

AFTER writing all that, I searched a bit online to see other interpretations of this movie. (Which I have never done until today). It was as follows: William Foster (Michael Douglas), a disillusioned, unemployed defense engineer who abandons his car in a Los Angeles traffic jam and embarks on a violent rampage to reach his estranged wife and daughter for her birthday. The film serves as a dark critique of modern society, exploring themes of alienation, the collapse of the American Dream, and the marginalization of the "ordinary man" in a changing world. The film’s ending reveals Foster’s true intent: realizing he has nothing left to offer his family and that his presence would only bring pain, he tricks Prendergast into killing him. This act of self-sacrifice allows him to provide for his daughter through his life insurance policy, transforming his violent breakdown into a tragic, twisted assertion of responsibility. The narrative is widely interpreted as a commentary on the psychological toll of economic instability and the frustrations of a disenfranchised middle class. I do agree for the most part, with the "official" assessment of the film. Albeit, it's only a brief summary of course.

fan

I think the scene with the convenience store in the beginning is harder to understand if you aren’t familiar with the currency inflation it is referencing. Granted his reaction is definitely wrong for smashing the store, but it’s not as simple as the store can charge what they want. It’s price gouging and that is what the movie was trying to portray. Back then 50 cents for a soda was already expensive, so 85 cents is kind of insane. It’s like if a $2.50 soda today (which is insane!) is being sold for $5. It’s not a respectful price.

fan

Great commentary. He is sadly misunderstood in this movie by a lot because his reactions are so shocking I think people can stop thinking about the totality of the circumstances. His actions are not right or just, but his anger and contempt is definitely justified lol, plus he’s never an initiator he’s always reacting to poor behavior

Piranther

This movie hits different now, we literally have Nazis elected to the highest offices in the country, Elon Musk giving Nazi salutes on the biggest stage in front of everybody, secret police just like Hitler had.
