"Alien" is a movie I can watch over and over so I pumped for this. Just wish The Munchies would finally head over to Alien 3 or at least start Alien "prequel" 👀 Prometheus.

Hello munchies !!! Hell yes! But poor Ivy ... Seeing the thumbnail, it will be hard for her I think. But this is the only horrors movie I can watch again and again! (with predator, if we consider this one like a horror movie ). It's such a classic! btw, the actor of Dallas, Tom Skerrit, died a few days ago. RIP. Fun fact, in french, we had the title presented as "Alien, the 8th passenger". but we still just calling it "Alien" first the reaction, then the explanation of the movie😉 Just remember the line of the movie "In space, no one can hear you scream" for the movie "lava base" they mean the mineral are volcanic. but this is not magma. it's not liquid lava. for the "big alien," to make him even more big compared to others, the actors were childrens. yes the aliens was build. all in this scene were build. and they play with the proportion and pov to make it look bigger. the beautifull "octopus" is called a "face-hugger". ( no joke) you made me jump !!! when you screamed at 49min when dallas let thing fall! For the dead face-hugger, they used rotten oyster. that and the fact they used a dog to scared the cat when the alien attack Brett is something people tend to critics for animal mistreatment. Poor Ivy... the "birth" of the alien was hard to watch for her. now we have a "chestburster"...(no joke again that's how it's called...) "where the water come from" condensation from the alien's atmosphere. btw at this scene, at 1h07min50, you have the alien right in front of you, balancing. "I hope mother can get a better idea" euh....."mother is dumb" 🤣 more like it! 😅 When we rewatch the movie, ash is obviously a traitor. he do everything wrong or in a way that may doom everyone! but first time, it's quite surprising. for the explanation of the movie I saw a french youtubeur who did an analysis of the movie. I'll use what he explain because it's the most complete one I found. The movie can be see throught 3 major thematic POV . -The anti-capitalist one (the easiest one) It's not for nothing Parker is always complaining for his share. he's the lowest worker in board with Brett. they're underpaid... Ash the robot being programmed to protect the alien for the profit of the company even if it mean sacrifying the crew. even the ship is programmed to look for it despite being the equivalent of a cargo ship, not a scientific one, nor a military one... we use crewmen as dispensable tool to find what they want. Profit over humans. And it's very subtle, but we can see the logo of the company everywhere. the ones responsibles of the deads are clearly denounced. -The syfy tropes (or more exactly Nature against technology) it's more subtle but in the idea is "Technology will not save you". The ships is huge, but is so claustrophobic, the space in it is very small. the camera is often very close and we see the place in the ship just enough for them to move sometimes. the alien use the ship as his "jungle" to hide. (many times he's hiding in the cable and we can't see him). the technology that should help them betrayed them (mother and Ash). they have flamethrower, motion sensor etc...but they aren't the hunter. Mankind rely too much on technology. nature is still superior and human are still as weak and fragile even with their new tools. - the sexual one (this one is the more important and proeminent but also the most difficult to speak about without being censored! 😅) for short, "NOBODY is save from sexu*l violence". the way the alien reproduce is bassicaly a r_ape (i'll say r-word now...). a tube forced into someone without consentement...it's the "r" word. the way Ash tried to kill Ripley...look at the scene thinking it's an agrresion (with her running on the floor, the way ash try to kill her which is not the best one, but looks like something else....plus all the nude pictures in the background...once you see it, you can't unsee it and I wish it sometimes. Katie spoke of the" milk", she was right saying it was to create a bad feeling. Because it's supposed to look like another liquid...no need to elaborate I think. Damn those who made this movie are crazy...) Even Lambert's death have been modified to look like it will go like the r-word...(even making errors in the cut because we can see it's not her foot...it's Bret's! and they removed it but they have a cut after lambert's death without her pants...like it wasn't ovious enough. I guess that's why they removed this cut) the door entry of the alien-ship is having a particulat shape doesn't it? If you think "it look like a part of a female body" you're right. and it's not the only thing looking like a genital in the movie... even the "baby alien" is strangely shape right after coming out of the stomach... if you began to look at the movie like that, it's not that we have a dirty mind, but the movie really put it under your nose without hiding it. believe it or not, the alien eggs were supposed to look even more like a pen*s too...but they said to the H.R. Gigger (the one who created the visuals of the aliens) "that will be enough!! thanks!" when you see Gigger's work, he's a specialist about bio-technological look. (and some are extremely....x-rated looking, not subtle at all... Chi and Ivy should never see that!) Speaking of birth and pregnancy, the movie is also showing it on a horrific way. the "birth" of the alien (called "Chest-burster" at that moment) itself show it. A friend who worked often with doctor said to me "giving birth is the most natural things, but also the operation who can turn bad really quick the most"... it's not for nothing this movie is a masterpiece of the horror. the atmosphere, the symbolism, the direction...everything create a huge claustrophobic, oppresive and truly horrible sensation without even needing to get as gore (except the "birth") and horrible as modern movie. for me, it's the best one! eager to see the next one with you! it's quite different but ok. thanks for the good times! have a good day!

just to know. can I ask why? No judgement at all. After all, me It's "the exorcist" that I can't see. but I'm curious. If you agree to explain of course.

chris brown

This will be good also looking forward to Aliens

Thomas Simmons

Great movie! Cat survives! I'm old enough to remember the hype when this movie first was in theaters, and it exceeded the hype!

Gaëtarrow

I still hope an "Alien vs predator" one. even if it's not a great one, just seeing those 2 icons fighting, it's worth it.

np86

could you react toe Alien: Romulus? it takes pace between Alien and Aliens.

Digitalversager

As long as the cat survives, it's a happy ending for Katie.😅 Great movie, Alien ist a true classic. The movie takes its time to get going, but once it does, there's no stopping it. It was also one of the first sci-fi 'action' movies with a female lead. Ellen Ripley, played by Sigourney Weaver, is such an awesome character. It's amazing how much tension they managed to create with the alien, considering you only see it for a fraction of the movie. The alien, by the way, was designed by H.R. Giger. He was known for combining organic and mechanical characteristics in his art, and the alien is a great example of this. There are several scenes in the movie where the alien is hiding right in your field of vision, yet you still miss it. The most famous of these scenes is just before the first attack. The camera shows a shot from a higher vantage point, and you can see various machines and chains. Right in front of the camera, the alien is hanging in the chains; you can see it clearly if you know what to look for. At first glance, the alien appears to be just another part of the machinery. Most people miss it on their first viewing. In the Alien movies, a grim picture of the future is often shown in which the mega-corporation Weyland-Yutani (that's the company that's always talked about) has almost unlimited power. Human lives count for nothing to the company. It's always funny to see how people in the 70s imagined the future. I mean, people in the future can build absolutely lifelike robots, but the supercomputers still make noises like PCs from the 70s. Or they can build enormous spaceships, but there are still paper magazines. And of course, smoking was commonplace in the 70s, even on a spaceship where fresh air is a vital resource. I’m no robotics expert, but I’m pretty sure the fluid inside Ash’s body isn’t milk.😅 That was a great reaction, ladies.💜

Nhia Vang

Is always Predator for me when it comes to science film horror action. Alien: Covenant 2017 was pretty good but the old Alien films are too outdated for me. Anyway love the reaction girls. ❤️

King Bob

John Hurt..... I miss these actors....

Steven

The Alien is called a Xenomorph. You'll learn more about the life cycle in the next movie. I would also suggest watching Alien Romulus and if you're really into the world watching the TV Series ALIEN: EARTH

Mark W

You and I could be the ONLY ones who like Alien: Earth.

Steven

They are filming season 2.

httruong

Meet the most iconic and badass female protagonist, Ellen Ripley ( with Sarah Connor from Terminator).

Alex Anderson

Because it would be the 1000th time I've seen Alien, Gaetorrow.

Alex Anderson

I'd be down with Katie and Ivy doing a reaction to it if they actually went on to do the rest of the franchise, including Prometheus. All of the previous reactions they stopped after Aliens.

chris brown

Great reaction as always looking forward to Aliens Hope you react to Alien Romulus (2024)

Alex Anderson

Alien Earth was decent but someone said it was written by AI.

John H

She tried to deny it, but when Ripley was stripping down Katie was LOCKED. IN. The banter between Katie and Ivy is always fun during their reactions.

RichieBIV

I think y'all are getting a little confused by the title. 😂 Just because the movie is called Alien doesn't mean this is supposed to represent every alien in the universe. It's just one particular alien. We've had aliens in movies LONG before this. Star Wars came out two years earlier, and The Day the Earth Stood Still came out back in 1951. So this definitely wasn't the first movie to feature an alien. And Ash is an android, meaning an artificial being made to look and act human. Think Blade Runner or Ex Machina. Same general concept. Just because this movie came out in 1979 doesn't mean these ideas weren't already around. And that's part of what makes Alien so damn good. It's a movie from '79 that still looks and feels more convincing than a lot of science fiction movies made today. The atmosphere, the effects, the tension... everything. Part of what I enjoy about first-time reactions is getting to relive that experience through somebody else's eyes. Sometimes it's nice to just let the movie do its thing and get caught up in it. That's where a lot of the magic is, at least for me. 😌 But yeah... Alien. Classic. 💯🍿🥤

Farbot

I'd forgotten how much build up there is before the "monster" makes an appearance. Great practical effects and scene setting to show how small & alone the crew are. With Halloween coming to a close and Thanksgiving on the horizon, I'm curious if the Munchies have any titles in the queue for the season. The only Thanksgiving film that comes to mind is "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles," which might serve as good reaction material.

Manospondylus

Alien 3 is judged too harshly. If they ever do I hope they get the updated cut.

Nathanial House

We salute you Captain Dallas! RIP Tom Skerritt ... thank you for keeping us horrified and entertained all these years! Your brothers Joh Hurt, Ian Holm, Harry Dean Stanton, Yaphet Kotto... and the Alien himself: Bolaji Badejo... are still debating the bonus situation.
