One of my all time favorites. the music that Hans Zimmer made for the first colosseum battle what later the inspiration for the pirates of the caribbean theme. if you like another history theme movie you should try The Last Samurai with Tom Cruise that's another beautiful movie

Fantastic reaction to the extended version (the better version in my humble opinion). Rubbing the dirt into his hands and smelling it before each fight connects Maximus to his home and his family. Moreover, the ritual pushes Maximus through each deadly conflict. On a more practical level, the dirt will absorb and stick to the sweat on your hands, adding extra grit to your grip, making it harder to lose your sword. Then, when your hands are bloody, it'll turn the dirt to, essentially, glue, making it even harder to drop your sword when your hands are slick and you're tired.

Highly principled men of integrity, honor, truthfulness, courageous, and that keep their word, often give their lives for taking a stand for what they TRULY believe in. JFK, MLK, RFK, King Leonidas of the movie 300, and Spartacus all gave their lives for truth and integrity. Sometimes truth and honesty can get you killed. Sad, but true. I choose integrity ALWAYS!!!! GREAT reaction. First time I saw the uncut version.

The area or stadium in Rome where the gladiatorial fights took place was originally called the Amphitheatrum, now called the Colosseum. Much of it still stands in Rome (photo: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/de/Colosseo_2020.jpg). There is a saying in English, "Bread and Circuses." Supposedly it refers to Roman Emperors buying the loyalty of the people by providing them with free entertainment (gladiatorial fighting, etc,) and free food, as shown in the scene where loaves of bread were thrown to the crowd. As the sister noted, the Emperor was paying for this by using Rome's grain reserves, which were supposed to be held back for emergencies. Though the movie is largely fictional, real Roman politics could be just as insane, chaotic, and bloody as in the movie... or more so. Brothers did have sex with sisters, as well as other types of documented and speculated incest. These days Bread and Circuses is often used to refer to the way "The Mob" of the citizenry is lulled by politicians and the powerful class into dull apathy by providing endless mindless mass entertainment and welfare. There is even a parallel between the grain reserves>free bread to pacify the Mob, and Biden in America releasing oil from our strategic reserve>temporarily lower gasoline prices. Accepting long term risks and problems for temporary political gain. An Emperor of Rome was also called 'Caesar.' I lost my wife three years ago, so the death of the General's family hit me hard (same thing happened when I watched John Wick). I do have great hopes of seeing her again, but not too soon... I promised her before she left that I would be OK. I'm trying, Beloved.

Another great Ridley Scott movie is Kingdom of Heaven, I'd highly recommend it! If you do watch it make sure to do the extended cut.

All the Hans Zimmer soundtracks are great. "Now We Are Free" is one of the great compositions of the 1990s.

Bruh... you're watching a REACTION channel. Just watch the movie if you don't want to hear them talk.

13. Why did Maximus always put dirt in his hands? Well its a practice still used today, for example body builders chalk their hands to absorb sweat and improve their grip on the weight, which helps prevent the bar from slipping, I imagine this is the reason why Maximus did it as well. Great reaction ladies and Hella nice attire, very elegant. As for the behaviors of Roman Emperors, a lot of them admired Egypt and wanted to rule as they did which is why Commodus wanted to have a child with his sister. One of the Emperors of the Roman empire, Caligula had a lot of rumors that he did have a child with his sister but...some say it was senators that passed on that rumor to get him out of power as well. Who knows what happened then really. King Tut or Tutankhamuns parents were siblings which is why Tut had 7 birth defects. Back to the movie, great reaction to this film, back when Ridley Scott was good at making films, now he's dropping the ball. He's the one who made the Alien movies, but dropped the ball with Alien Covenant. I read he took creative direction from one of the actors which, I think he ruined it. Looking forward to some more reaction videos.

This is the only movie I ever saw in a theatre where everyone stood up and applauded at the end. Magnificent. Thank you for reacting, Munchies 🙂👏🏻
