I didn't rush through this one, so I think everyone who submitted should receive some helpful feedback!

Also - Tonight is the deadline for your week 6 submission. I'll make another patreon post soon with my song and a breakdown of how I wrote it. Next week we'll do a live listening party and review everyone's music on Monday evening around 7pm ct.

See you in a bit!

I appreciate the feedback, Jake, and I had the same thought haha. I really only know how to play guitar efficiently, but maybe I can talk Znernicus into playing it 😄

Thanks for the feedback, Jake! I agree that it can be very easy to become too attached to a particular idea, and this course has actually helped me with that. I'm still trying to find a balance between writing the kind of music that comes naturally to me and something that is written with other people listening to it in mind. Especially if those people are very knowledgeable about music, like everyone here. :)

Thanks Jake! Definitely needed the 2-5-1, I’m going to play with your suggestions on it. Seems like I may have a few bum notes in there as well.

Thanks a lot for your feedback. Indeed I'm mostly a composition noob and don't know any real-life drummer. Never tried fiverr, but I'm gonna consider following your suggestion.

Thank you Jake for the really positive feedback. It really validated by songwriting getting this from you - someone I truly respect for their ability to write a great song. I see what you mean with the augmented chord. And yes, my chord naming is well off! In fact I got those dubious E6 chord spellings from an app I've got. I think I just need to improve my theory by watching your videos again! Thanks again for all your hard work with this and your other courses/books/videos. I've just upgraded by subscription on your Patreon too. Hope it helps you do more great work!

Thanks again, Jake. It’s much appreciated, especially knowing you didn’t initially set out to review the all submissions. I hope you do another masterclass like this once you get your rhythm and barre courses done!

Jake, Per your suggestion, I consulted your Chord Progression Codex on 7(b9) chords (pp. 372-374). 7(b9) - Dominant (V) chord Eb - b9th D - Root (down 1/2 step from b9th) A - 5th in the bass ** “Kolkata” (Calcutta) - "C" Section A dim A - C - Eb D7(b9)/A D - F# - A - C - Eb Em E - G - B ** If D7 is the V7 chord, then Em is the vi chord, and the base scale should be G. The Eb tone would be borrowed from G Aeolian, and the E from G Ionian. And then A Dorian... (head spinning) "Hey, listen to this! I don't know why it works, but it sounds cool!" Jake, any time I can make you smile, I count it a major victory. Thanks again for clearing up the fog surrounding traditional music theory. "Groovy 70s Rush style epic adventure music?" I will proudly accept that, good sir! (Saluting) Cheers and blessings,

Jay Goemmer

Jake, I'll be "late to the party" on Monday 02/24 because I have to pick up my kid from work, but I'll join the festivities as soon as I can.
