Been a little bit since my last blog post! Things are going pretty well. My metamour Poid visited for two weeks at the beginning of the month and that was awesome (she lives in the UK and we only see her once a year or so - the last time she was here was to be the maid of honor at our wedding!). Took a bit of adjusting to get used to being by myself at home all day after she left. She got me out of the house more often though, walking to the store on a whim, and that's a habit I'm trying to keep up. I went this morning! And walked home with two cases of soda in my backpack! And I'm not even sore!
I've been exercising a lot more consistently and I'm surprised to find that my strength and stamina are, in fact, increasing. I can now walk to the store and back (about five or six blocks) without tiring myself out or getting sore feet and legs. My doctor-recommended routine of a 10 minute walk is super easy now, so I'll have to talk to him about changing it up (walking to the store more often?) when I see him soon. I have a hard time taking him seriously, my pain doc, because his name is Dr Beaver. He's a really cool guy though and very supportive.
I've been having an easier time adulting in general lately. I'm getting chores done, feeding myself better, oversleeping less, powering through my work, and making time to talk to friends. I'm also handling my money a lot better with help from my wife. For 8 years I was in a relationship that was, among other things, financially abusive, and I was not permitted to handle money beyond 'here's $20 for the thrift store to get your clothes for the year'. Suddenly having access to my own money and able to make my own financial decisions at age 27 (when I got the hell out of dodge) was weird and scary and I've struggled with budgeting for a few years now. I've wavered back and forth between 'save everything, spend nothing' and 'I have money wheeee I can buy whatever I want!!!' and had a really hard time settling into a reasonable and healthy and smart saving and spending habit. However, right now I have more money in my savings than I've had in years AND I'm still buying stuff I need or really want with no issue. As I said my wife is helping me with it A LOT but I still have final say on my money which is really important. So that's good for the adult points bucket too.
I've been going through some weird stuff in therapy lately. I've been having a hard time focusing on myself and was spending every session talking about other people's problems and how I'm struggling to help them, instead of actually talking about my own shit. So I finally did some work on that during my last session and there was some tough shit to uncover. I'm going to keep at it and try to be more mindful of what I'm using my time to talk about and work on. I'm not getting into details because I doubt yall care about or want to hear about the minutiae of my brain worms but it is difficult and also different from what I've handled in the past, so, weird new ground for me.
I opened up for 25% off latex-themed illustration commissions today and one slot filled immediately, the other is maybe filled if the person can figure things out and follow the correct procedure to get the slot. I've been wanting to practice my latex style/skills so I am looking forward to these. The person who bought the color commission slot from yesterday also opted to upgrade their (already latex themed) commission to an illustration, so I'll have three to try things out on. Whee! I've been trying to improve my art lately, picking up things I like that other people do and incorporating them into my style, using references more, focusing on improving aspects of my art that I know I can do better (like line weight, dammit!). I'm ready to level up!
I think that's all the 2am ramblings I've got right now. If you like, comment and let me know how you feel about being an adult and doing adult things! And also, let me know if there's any aspects of my style you really like so I can get an idea of what I SHOULDN'T change! :D
