I think the confusion in the second half of the episode came from a poorly built attempt at deepening the romantic bond between Shinichi and that girl. Like, the protagonist is desperate, lost, in need of emotional support more than ever—and bam, she shows up to be that support. But it was done so badly that it just ends up being… bad. Comically bad. Well, nothing’s perfect in this life, right? Let’s just pretend that never happened.
