Patreon,

I've obviously fallen out of the tactics industry and don't plan on coming back, but shooting and more specifically self defense are some things that I find enjoyment in and keeping myself proficient in. Especially with some of the things we cover on the show (specifically the threat of terrorism here in the homeland.). Anyways... I'm rusty and haven't trained much in years. This is a great drill that keeps you proficient and certainly enough to keep you and your family safe.

The drill is 2 shots at the 25yd line on an epsic target in under 4 seconds from concealed or wearing a cover shirt for a total of 3 attemps. The A box is 5 points, the C box is 4 points, the D box is 3 points (no head shots and a head is a miss). 24 points is a pass. If you can score a 24, congratulations, you've just passed one of the highest most feared standards that mil/contracting are held to. These are my first 6 shots of the day, I scored a 28 out of 30. Drill is iron sights only.

Just thought I would share as I know a lot of us out there are looking for a level of profiiency that is good enough to protect yourself and your family. If you can't make it, try it at 10yds and work your way back.

Happy shooting,

Shawn

Let me know if you'd like to see more of these.

Appreciate you sharing. Would welcome more of these please sir.

Steven M. Diaz

Solid work. I would absolutely like to see more content like this.

CB Phantom

Love seeing ya at maintaining!!! Good on ya bro!

Tracy

Yeah Shawn, I have a small group that I drill with almost weekly, this is one of our drills!! Keep them coming!!

aughtsix

Yes, please, and thank you. Good to have a known high bar to strive for.

Ryan R

Yes, I would like to see more drills.

Jon Johnson

Not bad..., Keep it up. I haven't shot a rifle or pistol since 1993 (USMC 82'-93'). I'm sure I could hit one of those trees in the background though! Lol...

AdamC11

Love the 25yd line with pistol!

Jess Lee

Yes more, politics are import sin but we are covered in them all day. I come here to see more things that I can directly influence in the security of myself and my family. And of course stories from those who have served for us.

Walter Duester

Correct me if I'm wrong, but A box is a head shot. B box is center mass. So excluding the head, it is B, C and D scoring.

Wesley Quinlan

Not to pull you more in the tactical direction but what holster is that. Thx

Haole wahini

Yes, please! Love this type of content.

Matthew Rutledge

More please 🙏. My sister lives on 260 acres. We have a large rifle, indoor and outdoor pistol, skeet and 3d ranges. Just got done loading 1000 rounds last night. Always sharp. Always fast. Aim small, miss small.

Tindog

Hell yeah

Darrell

I would love to see more drills, especially with practical self-defense training in mind.

Kevin O’Malley

Love this content. A monthly ‘Rounds with Rusty’ where you and Rusty Unions evaluate a weapons platform or practice a drill would be especially sick. I heard he’s up in Franklin once a month.

Ari Raag

miss this, more would be great

OMWAG

I’m old and transitioning to 22 LR revolver so I changed it to eye box to end the fight. I’ve only got 8 in the cylinder and need to make them count.

Michael Kimbrough

Thanks for the drill Shawn,. Yes, keep it rolling brotha!

Jimmy Wusinich

If I don’t practice for 2 weeks I’m off. Anyone else have that issue or do I just suck?

Donnie Heacox

Absolutely!!...It reminds me to train. It prompts me to get up from my desk and do dry fire exercises at least!

John Bechtel

Fantastic drill! Thanks for sharing.

Brandon Hanks

Excellent shooting and a great practical drill to stay sharp.

Bobby

Thanks for sharing!!

Byron Joyner

Yes Sir, keep the training tips coming!

Eric Gorsuch

Thanks so much for this. Nice drill. A lot of foundational basics needed to do it. Yes, please do more.

Taylor Sweazy

This is fantastic. More drills i can do at my home range would be great!

Ed

Which edc and in what caliber? I have settled on a p229 (2nd as my 1st p299 bought in mid-90’s is in 40) in 9 mm and a G30 in 45

Sako Shahbazian

I need to work on my self as well. We all have become very comfortable. Drills like this before the morning coffee is needed!! Thanks Shawn

Al

👍🏼 Thanks Shawn, hope you can share more quick vids like this covering training fundamentals and mindset for being prepared, and keeping my family safe for a newbie like me. 🤙🏼 🇺🇸

Jay

I was never formerly trained on handgun. I shoot rifles way better. But, I would like to be better with a pistol. Curious as to if you have any suggestions for those who lack much handgun training? Like any content for beginners? Lots of Yahoos on YouTube and not too sure they are trust worthy. Like most Americans, not in a financial situation to afford class at my local range. The ammo itself and range fees are expensive these days.

As a Retired Police Firearms Instructor and a Lifelong Street Cop and the Son of a Firearms Instructor, Street Cop and Army Ranger of the Korean War, I've found that people do not train enough at distances like 25 Yards. In fact, I still shoot the FBI Course that has a 50 Yard stage as well. Bad Encounters don't simply occur within touching and spitting distances. Yes, they are the majority in many shoot outs, but there are times that bad things have to be dealt with at much greater distance, within a few seconds. Look at the guy who shot the Indiana Mall Shooter with a Glock 19 (as I recall) at about 40 Yards and had to take cover before shooting. Another training tip is to move to cover, (a tree, a vehicle, a wall or anything you can get behind, drop to a knee and shoot from around the side, exposing very little of yourself and making the shot. I also train from my truck through the open window or door, because of the increase in Road Rage these days. I'm not going to let an armed, angry @$$hole trap me in my vehicle if possible. Many times you won't be able to back up and get out of his range of fire. I am one of those individuals who's fortunate enough to live more rural with 16 Acres and a Backyard Shooting Range. I sometimes even take an extra reload of whatever I'm carrying, and shoot a Mag or Cylinder full as I'm leaving. It keeps me warmed up.

John Kelly

Yes please more of this

Moose

Impressive 👌🏼

Bret Trasamar

THANKS SHAWN! That's what I should be doing too! Regardless of how you feel, at least you got all six within the target Practice makes better, and better practice makes permanent. 😃 P.S. My gun range master taught us two in the thoraxic area, or as he called them, "Two warning shots to the chest." Then if the bad guy is still try to kill you, the occular cranial cavity.

Josiah DLT

Look into LORA specifically, Meshtastic devices for coms that don’t rely on WiFi, BT, or a cell network. Mesh core is better but the U.S is behind. Regardless any form of communication is important.

Jared

Nice work, definitely interested in more of these!

Johnothan Jones

I think you should do some range time with Shrek or do a fundraising shooting event with him and others, in your circle hosting, to raise funds for veteran mental health organizations you trust.

Ronnie Tschan

Very impressive brotha , that wig is coming off fast at distance lol 💪🙏🇺🇸

david nancarrow

Would be interested in seeing a lot more of these types of exercises.

Teddy

Who do you recommend for advanced training? Ideally, a few options would be great. Thanks

Stephen Casey

This is exactly what I need. Thank you, keep up the great work, and continued prayers over you, your fam, and the show!

Patrick Dalrymple

Yes please do more of these. That’s an excellent drill

Jennifer Bohnert

Yes, right on. Being prepared, a great drill!

Phillip Smyth

Not a fan of non backed targets to catch the projectiles / Just a big anal - but love to have a home range to practice - my closest range is 1.5 hours away - even on On plates I have had projectiles come back - Sadly in Australia it is hard to have pistols - you have to spend six month to a year at a resisted club - and assessed - which are all competition based - My Late Father was an olympic class - Free Pistol competitor - pre my birth and up to early sixties - So I only got to shoot a pistol - when pre / Early teens - I was more into rifles - culling rabbits and foxes ! I shoot Comp - my favourite discipline is Rifle Metallic Silhouette - Air is 18m-40mRimfire / small-bore 22 Lr 40m -100m and Centre- Fire 200-500m standing - using 7mmBr & 7mm-08 and also Lever 22 and Pistol Calibres 357 mag , Bench-rest in Air- 22 Rimfire / small bore - Centre-fire 6mmPPC - Shot gun Trap - then my hunting / culling - 30 plus high quality mostly customised or custom built - My 30 plus - if they don’t group super tight I don’t own them ! To see 5 shots making a hole - tickles my soul ! - ready for the CCP Chonks ! Lol

eatmeat

Iron sites at 25 yards, tighten that shit up Sean, lol, just ribbin you man. Sig has a really good training system I use at the range. Keeps it fun.

Xavier

🇺🇸let’s train baby!

Kevin O’Malley

At that distance, my pistol is just a noise maker to keep them ducking while I get to my Makasi rifle in the trunk.

Mike P.

Like it! Straightforward. Keep these drills coming!

Christine

Absolutely I would appreciate more like this!

Victor Silvas

Awesome drill! Can't thank you enough for sharing an exercise from the elite side of the fence. Really appreciate the knowledge, thank you for all you've done, are doing, and will do!🙏🙏🙏

Thank you Shawn! LOVE THIS! My Son and I will definitely start adding this to our training. Please if you think of any other training you feel us average Joe’s need to protect our families don’t hesitate to add them.

Valkyrie

Very nice. Love the creek too.

Longhunter

Yes always more, Chief

Jack Williams

Nice job. Not too rusty. I am going to try that drill tomorrow. Thanks

Colton Smith

I’d like to see more of this!

D Slinkard

This is great! My son, who's getting ready to go Air Guard, and I watched this and are now looking at buying the targets to use for this training instead of just shooting for "fun" without any concrete objective.

Julie Langton

I loved this, would happily watch more of it. Loved the description at the end. "1 fly away. Now I have to go to work." I respect, enjoy and feel informed with the content and work that you do Shawn. And I thank you, all the way from Melbourne, Australia. More Australians need to be listening and watching your podcast. 🙏👏

Brodie

Love it when you post stuff like this brother. I’m my wife will actually get out while I’m working and watch your training vids.

John Ryan

Great stuff, please continue. Love the location… what a blessing.

Jp Wolf

Love this kind of video gives us average joes some good drills to train with. If thats your rusty I would hate to see you on your game. For our qualifying drill at work we do two shots from the 25 yard line in 4 seconds as the first part and I alway get on paper but its always low and left for some reason

Abe Martinez

Awesome stuff, please continue with these.

Fernando

Why 25 yrds?

Chris Basham

Awesome! Any chance to learn from ultra professionals…

Jeff

Because anymore than 25 you most likely may be deemed the aggressor, prosecutor may argue you had plenty of room to back off and go the other way. That may be only in the event no shots were fired upon you. If you were taking fire I would say you would be deemed justified to defend yourself. Beyond 25 in a high stress situation you are seriously becoming a liability to innocent bystanders. A certain percent of us are civilians and not trained professionals. I am going to apply for my draw from holster card at my range and this exercise will be my first exercise to work on. At first no timer needed, build in the muscle memory first, speed will follow. To many people see these shot timers on videos and think that is where you start, trying to build speed right off the bat. That’s a recipe for the ER, that’s my non professional opinion.

Joel Taylor

Damn, I recall shooting about 750 rounds a week at the range. Every week. I was very proficient with my 38super. Many IPSC competitions. I miss it. Time to buy a new handgun and get back into it. It’s been 30 years!

Robert the Texan

I was a bit sad to read you won't be coming back to the tactics side of the house, but I reckon you have a new life now. #SRSLife! This is a good drill and appreciate if you side some of these drills our way, maybe one time it's some basic stuff, next time, more advanced. Throw in some transition stuff. That would be GTG.

jajoyce08

You've just motivated me to start again. It's crazy how quickly one can lose their proficiency when not practicing. I'd love to see you make more of these. Thank you in advance!
