Dave Mustaine is the co-founder, frontman, primary songwriter, and sole consistent member of the thrash metal band Megadeth. A pioneer of the American thrash metal movement, Mustaine formed Megadeth in 1983 after his departure from Metallica, where he served as lead guitarist and co-songwriter. With Megadeth, he has released sixteen studio albums, sold over 50 million records worldwide, earned six platinum certifications, and won a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance in 2017 for the title track of Dystopia.

I've always loved Dave's/Megadeth's music , his lyrical content is deep and thoughtful addressing world affairs even delving into conspiracy long before the "Johnny Come Lately's" of today. Saw him in summer 92 @ tingley coliseum. Best concert I've attended to date. Cheers!!

I used to really like Megadeth, but it’s really hard to sit here and hear Dave consistently rip on Metallica. It’s was an unfortunate series of events on what happened to him, there’s no denying that. But I’ve rarely seen any type of dismissive comments that’s been made by anyone from Metallica, when James doing the podcast w/ JRE. I felt he spoke open and honestly about the situation, but when Dave did it, just the same story of what appears to just be a “poor twisted me” narrative. I don’t think there ever was, or ever will be a true “bury the hatchet” moment. Dave will forever live in what he feels is the “shadow of Metallica” but him finding peace and forgiveness in the lord hasn’t yet transcended to trying to make amends with Metallica. Some Kind of Monster was a good start, but clearly that never followed through. Maybe I’m biased bc Metallica is my favorite band. But the stories from Dave change pretty frequently from the VH1 special in the early 2000s, to SKOM, to his books, now to this podcast w/ Shawn. He forgives them, then he doesn’t, he praises Kirk, then says he can’t play his solos, he claims to have massive respect for James, then basically calls him a p***y to Shawn. Make up your mind, do you forgive and move on ? Or no. Feeling like it’s no.

I respect that he does not want to describe the witchcraft and glorify the devil. He is such a big influence so im glad he did not expand on the details but explained what a dark oppression it created on him and he needed deliverence. I mean he has said in other interviews, he doesn't play some of his songs because there are spellmakers in it. And he also put spells on some.

I met Dave in Utah mid 90’s at a meeting for sobriety. He was right behind me I turned and went wholly fuck your … and he goes …shhh lol. They played in town the next night and he gave me a 6 month “chip” and said show it to the people after show and I’ll say hi. I think it worked 3 times what a cool guy! The experience was great inspiration to me and helped keep me trying to find the good path through a self destructive youth for sure. Thanks for doing this one for sure!

Im a huge metalhead, know almost every megadeth riff on guitar and listen to them religiously. However, Dave is an asshole. Ive always known that, but seeing him be interviewed by someone i truly admire on a personal level and still act that way really seals the deal. He’s just so condescending and harsh. Couldnt imagine trying to hang out with that dude ESPECIALLY if hes off a few lines and some liquor. Geez. Love metallica, Love megadeth, and I’m glad he didn’t stay with them. But he handled it like a 13 year old girl and you can tell it still gets under his skin. He cant shake it off even 50 years later. Because he KNOWS he was the problem.

My partners and I were serving ibogaine and bufo for veterans with ptsd in my home on the beach in Florida from 2016-2018 and had great success helping them. I then had a retreat center in Asheville where I began to also serve aya from 2018-2023 In my experience with shrooms, ibogaine, iboga root (you capsule the non HCI version and it helps with smoking cravings) bufo, dmt, lsd, aya, San Pedro, and Kambo, all of which I’ve served to others for addiction and ptsd (NEVER recreationally) I’m blown away at how powerful and effective they are when done in the right setting with the right intentions and integration. First this was different. Frankly though I am a bigger Dave Mustaine fan now than I was before. Now it’s time to bring in James. He to me has a lot of issues. From his childhood. An honestly I don’t think he has gotten past them. He’s still very uncomfortable in his own skin. Regardless if he is in the biggest metal band of all time. I would also like to see you do interviews with Geddy Lee and or Alex Liefson. Gene Simmons etc. Anyway great interview.
