Blake Scholl is the Founder and CEO of Boom Supersonic, a company he started in 2014 to revive commercial supersonic flight with the Overture airliner, designed to fly at Mach 1.7 and carry 64–80 passengers.

A Carnegie Mellon University computer science graduate (BS, 2001), Scholl began his career as a software engineer at Amazon, later owning a $300 million P&L at age 24, and co-founded Kima Labs, acquired by Groupon in 2012.

Inspired by seeing Concorde in a museum, he self-taught aerospace engineering to launch Boom, which achieved the first privately developed supersonic flight with the XB-1 demonstrator in January 2025. With orders from United, American, and Japan Airlines, Scholl aims to make sustainable supersonic travel mainstream using 100% sustainable aviation fuel, targeting passenger flights by 2030.

Once again, bringing us such knowledge, the future is bright

The profit for major airlines, that he left out of that 80% from the first 20% of seats, is SHIPPING CONTRACTS. The actuaries at the airlines have worked it out so that the paying passenger WILL GET KICKED OFF THE PLANE, if the "weight restrictions" call for it, BEFORE THE SHIPPING CONTENT. They treat passengers like garbage, because they also sell too many f*cking tickets, expecting some number (thanks actuaries) will not show up, and if you have to ask for "volunteers" to get off the flight and pay them cash + hotel + the next flight, then the airline will still make an extra nickel. I know someone who works at the gate and they will be told how many passengers need to volunteer, and then start offering an amount of money. If not enough passengers volunteer, they'll increase the number. It's like an auction and it gets pretty high sometimes. I've heard numbers over 5k-7k going to 10-20 people many times. Those aren't the extremes. And it's because they sold too many tickets and they WON'T remove the stuff they're shipping for another company. That weight limit changes with weather conditions too. It's insane and immoral. I'm sure some people are glad to take the money, but this stupid auction shouldn't be happening at the gate. It also takes more time. Where's the FAA, on this?!

"Phone somebody with gray hair." That is a profound statement. 1) Build the best team you can 2) Give them a direction 3) Give them the tools 4) Get out of the way

Texas Stock Exchange (TXSE), would love to see a guest on speaking about it. Seems like a prior guest had brought it up.

I'm hoping to see fewer ads because I'm paying. Otherwise, great.

If paying for the podcast isn’t enough to not hear commercials then I don’t need to pay for this one anymore. Sad deal Shawn, hope you check the comments and fix this shit for the future.
