Wow! Thanks Shawn and team for selecting and asking my question. Thank you Ruslan KD for the thoughtful and sincere answer. You are all incredibly inspiring and this is such a great podcast and Patreon community! Many blessings to all of you! - K.P.

@ShawnRyan when are you gonna get Marcus Luttrell on the show? I’ve been saying for years that it would be an absolute amazing experience & journey!

👋Hey, a couple synchronicities occurred, that I hope you will appreciate. 1. Right after I started listening to this, I pulled into the turning lane and there was a car with a trailer that had the FL license plate, "JESUS", right in front of me. That made me smile 😊 2. I've been dropping the following quote in the VE Chat, and this guy is from Baku, Azerbaijan, too! Here's the quote, from Sibel Edmonds, sent to Tucker Carlson, regarding his first 9/11 Episode: "In late 2000 Zawahiri had a meeting (in person) with US & NATO officials in US Embassy in Baku, Azerbaijan. Known by the FBI, CIA, State Department, NATO, Azerbaijan Gov officials, Turkey Gov officials, Pakistani and Israeli officials and Saudi Officials. On tape records. On paper documents. With dozens of copies. Correct the first 8 minute false info." - FBI WB, Sibel Edmonds

Sean, another amazing interview. Spiritual Warfare is real for sure. As with your other guests who worked exorcisms demons are real. We must fast and pray because it gives us a heightened awareness and focus to fight against evil and unite us to the power of Christ. During the season of Lent when we fast, it redirects our spiritual gaze. It helps you see deeper into things. Another good exercise is a spiritual retreat (a time for silent prayer and reflection on the word of God). Remember Jesus went out into the desert after His baptism and there is where he confronted the devil and prevailed. Note: he was fasting because the devil said turn these rocks into bread. We humans are part natural (we live in this physical world) and part supernatural (our immortal soul).

Jacen Horn

Thank you for being willing to show everything with fearlessness; including prayer & scripture reading.

At 18 minutes in, he makes the supposition that atheists have to "believe" in a lot more miracles, about the creation of the universe. I would say that's setting up a false dichotomy and a straw man argument. I think there's a difference between people who have a kind of courage to be comfortable not knowing all the answers, and those who don't. This courage is certainly not a belief. And I, personally, question Big Bang Cosmology and am very critical of the so-called Scientific Establishment, who essentially coerce everyone who wants to seriously study Cosmology (and therefore all the hard sciences), into specific beliefs, that are antithetical to the scientific method of learning. "Settled Science" is one such belief. Serious people should know that no question is ever settled, even if they don't see a paradigm shift in their lifetimes. They have certainly shifted in the past, and people were burned at the stake for their efforts, which we take for granted. It wasn't philosophers burning them... 💡 Paradigm shifts WILL occur, in the future, and I can only hope to see one. This has to happen, because what we know now is split into Gravity centric, on the large scale (and it's allegedly not a force, but "spacetime curvature"), and Quantum Mechanics, for the very small scale. Since these two paradigms don't work on the other's scale, there has been an effort to come up with a "Theory of Everything", as it's called, that works on all scales. Einstein tried, in the later part of his life, and the efforts continue. I think that Plasma Cosmology is a possibility, because there have been some breakthroughs in plasma physics, that I've observed happening over the last decade. I think our population pyramid says a lot about the timing of the next paradigm shift, because the boomers are the largest slice and they have the most control over funding, as well as academic and career opportunities in the sciences. So, I hope the guest will consider this understanding of scientific/rational thinking, instead of placing a Belief framework around non-believers and then alleging/presupposing what "non-believers believe". 🧐 Thanks for your consideration. I know there are many religious believers involved in the sciences, as well, and they know how to separate/discern the rational from the irrational, in their own thinking. I reject all labels and the premise of the question. That said I do feel awe, humility, and have some irrational thoughts. I don't focus on them for too long. That's just the way I handle it. Everyone is different. I've seen what delusional thinking can result in, and sometimes I think all believers are delusional, to some degree. But, I usually don't dwell on those thoughts. It's better not to judge or assume.

If we could get Nathan and him to debate that would be awesome! Maybe some good can come from this. I am more on Nathan’s side. Here in the Bible Belt there is a lot of corruption. First problem I have with Ruslans viewpoint is with the stats he presents. If church’s don’t have to be transparent how can the “pastors salary” actually be accurate or any other financial stat be accurate. Church’s can just make up numbers up and nothing will happen to them. Of course they are gonna put it below 60,000 so when you go to get heath insurance you’re getting the most benefits form healthcare marketplace. Second big problem I see is Because of Nathan’s “trauma” he has a warped view on the reality. This is an ad hominem attack. Really……then all of us veterans, law enforcement, first responders, and anybody that’s ever been in a traumatic event needs to get better before they have an opinion . Jesus actually says you will suffer in this world and blessed are those who suffer in his name. Next Sexual assualt is not a problem in church’s really……it’s got to the point that South Park made an episode back in 2018 about catholic priest covering up SA with kids. Heck my childhood pastor got caught with a prostitute. I recommend watching Alex Rosen channel to see how many pedos he catches weekly. We all want transparency hopefully it actually happens!

Robert Diggins

Leading up to 59 minutes in, he is rationalizing some lack of transparency, as a protection from envy, etc. I want to contrast that with having worked for a State funded (in large part, but that's the part I'm talking about) university. I'm talking about 10s of thousands of faculty and staff over all campuses in the state. It was known by everyone, who was paid using state funds, that this was PUBLIC INFORMATION. Anyone could call the university and ask how much money I made, or anyone else. This was a check against the ENORMOUS problem of middle management bloat and cronyism. I can't imagine it being any other way. For an institution who purports to advise people about feelings of envy and jealousy (except for the jealous god), I found the guest's use of the possibility of transparency of salaries in a church to be laughable. It's also a collectivist institution, just like a public institution, AND there is a general public need to know, since they are given non-profit tax exemption. All publicly funded institutions MUST have transparency, including individual salaries. The excuse he used, with the assumption that what he thought is just a given, fell flat on my open ears. This is the problem with assumptions. Nobody paid by a group of people, and using tax-exempt status, should be worried about envy, especially a church! Where does this reasoning come from, really? He said it like a salesman. "Yeah, nobody likes yellow cars anymore, and you're going to see all those complaints about the way you drive disappear, as soon as you hop into this little red rocket. That's just a given, because it has nothing to do with the way you DRIVE." No.

Robert Diggins

Oh, you think it's difficult, once you provide details to your flock, to replicate that information? The printing press changed all that, and guess what!!! NOW, we live ina world of, not just paperless, but AUTOMATED information delivery. It won't cost you a nickel or any of your time. People do this all the time, in the corporate world. They buy a single stock, so they can get information or ... whatever. No, this is NOT something that is bad for a non-profit, collectivist organization. It's not weaselly or kniving or conspiring to do harm or whatever else you're afraid of. I think that fear comes from the need to feel special and exclusive. Why aren't you saying, "YES! Go ahead and drop some money in the plate (or basket on a pole, which is what I saw the last time I went to church with my dad. It blew me away. I went to church as a kid and think it was a good experience, because of the community. I couldn't imagine them not trusting the flock so much that they wouldn't let a collection plate be passed. 🤯 I actually told my dad I'd wait in the car, because I didn't want to disturb the churchin'. I'm not sure why you think you're in a private club and you don't want to let the riff Raff in, because they just want to pay you for what every American should be able to see, without making a donation. I'm applying that to all non-profits. I'm open to reasonable arguments, and these are not those. This isn't the Elk's club. Or the Moose. You want tax exemption, because you are doing PUBLIC service? Open the books. Remember, automation is easy now. It's really, really easy. Just put it on your website. You might gain some members who appreciate that. Sorry, but I was the tall blade of grass when my employer used public money to campaign for a political candidate. This is so familiar to me. Get the f out of non-profit status and make it a private clubhouse. I saw and made some noise about misuse of funds, as well as some really bad cronyism. The things you both are saying about this are extremely familiar to me and I wish to knock down the unreasonable sales pitch for judging people who want to keep churches on the up and up, WHEN IT'S A REAL PROBLEM FOR SOME CHURCHES AND ITS GETTING WORSE, BECAUSE OF PEER PRESSURE AND VYING FOR BELIEVERS WITH COMFORT AND STYLE 🙄 WHO IS AFRAID OF TRANSPARENCY AND DOESN'T LIKE MEDDLING KIDS SOLVING MYSTERIES BY FAKING SUPPORT WITH THEIR DONATIONS? SMH Sorry, that part is really not good. Still, a very interesting and compelling personal story. My hat's off to the guest for making it out of some really rough times.

Robert Diggins

"I prefer pastors to get paid more than public school teachers." 😔 I think he might still be on the chronic. This comparison of averages and then weird used car sales pitch, "I prefer the Prius to the Buick Station Wagon...am I right? Am I right? Yeah 🤜🤛 I'm right." This now has me thinking about the fact that he's a Christian Hip Hop Artist and I think he almost slipped up at one point, talking about how to make money in hip hop, with a saturated gangster rap market. 🤔. Now I'm starting to imagine stuff that he might be motivated by, instead of just listening to him. I can't take the sales pitches that AREN'T REASONABLE, LOGICAL, AND ONLY APPEAL TO THE FEELING OF EXCLUSIVITY. I'm almost halfway through and he's looking at his phone and rattling off some facts that are only helpful if you like the sound of his voice and the appeals to exclusivity. Remember, we're not the chosen ones, but at least we aren't the left behind! 🙄. This is like junior high lunch table stats. If I have to stop, I'll leave it here. I've said enough, but I'd ask anyone who disagrees to say why, because the cronies out there can ... You know.

Robert Diggins

OMG, Shawn. "Regardless of the pastor's motivation, it's still a good message" and benefits people? Really? My mom is 97. When I was growing up we used to help out these two older friends of hers, who had been left their home and some money to live in when they became widows. Come to find out they were sending 10s of thousands of dollars to A EFFING TELE-EVANGELIST! YOU KNOW THE ONES BACK IN THE 80S? YOU SERIOUSLY DON'T THINK PEOPLE ARE HURT BY GREEDY PIG AHOLES WHO ABUSE PEOPLE'S FEAR OF DEATH WITH SLICK TALK? REALLY?!!!! THAT'S IT. NOW ILL STOP. GOOD LUCK TO THOSE WHO ARE STILL INTERESTED IN THIS TOPIC, LIKE IT'S CONTROVERSIAL. HINT: IT'S NOT.

Tackleberry122

Shawn and crew, great show as always. Don’t let the other commenters get you down about having Nathan on the show. Both Nathan and Ruslan have very valid points. As Ruslan said in this episode, the (dis)information overload has polluted people’s way of thinking to where they can only see black and white. This has obviously been done intentionally.

Truth4Virginia

Pastor Jack Hibbs would be an excellent guest to focus on end times

Angela

I really enjoyed this interview with Ruslan! I am glad he counted so much of the information Nathan put forth - who to me was the used car salesman pitch. Everyone is evil. Ruslan countered this point. The local church is vital for the community, and I believe there’s more good out there than bad.

Kyle

I know WE can’t save the world but I think we need to help fight the people killing the Christians in Africa. Get the drones fired up and protect our people. Peaceful people practicing their faith and not harming anyone need to be protected no matter the religion. I’m sure it’s prob an unpopular opinion but as a believer we need to help them

Keri

These are the Christian men and women you should have on. Speaking Biblical truth!

Richard Beemer

What a great and informative interview in answering Shawn's spiritual and biblical questions. Thank You Jesus, for sending Ruslan to the SRS!

SAMH

Shawn, try reading the Bible with Father Mike Schmitz "Bible in a Year" podcast. I did it 3 years in a row and it helped me greatly.

Eric Keeler

Truly thought I was the only one who had a younger experience if faith like that. Just denying at a young age.

Andrew Harbin

Ruslan! Man, my 2 favorites on a pod together, just insane! Thanks Shawn!

Nicole Mancuso

I love these two men! This was so awesome thanks you so much for this episode!!!

Amanda

1:00 mark.... every church i have been to show where their quartly finances go to. Like he said. They show the total amount and then percentages.

Amanda

1:20 1987 Toyota celica!!!! I had that too! Bringing me back with the flip up lights and hatchback!

Jaxon Hiser

Absolutely amazing and made me reaffirm my love for Jesus.

Jarod Russo

Dear Shawn and team, you have no idea how joyful I am that you conducted this interview. I love Israel, and I also love America. I love it Israel because that is where the Messiah of the world came from. But, I’m also loyal to my country America, the beautiful. Thank you for having the wisdom to have a Ruslan on. God will BLESS you all for that. Genesis 12:3

Jarod Russo

without even realizing it, this might be the most important interview Shawn has ever done.

SAMH

Great interview Shawn and crew. Thanks so much for your hard work and you're true concern about the impact of your interviews.

Hello, I would like to weigh in on the discussion of tithe. And what I am saying is with FULL RESPECT because in the American Christian church we are not taught to consider tithing as a very strict exercise of obedience. We often have this “do whatever you think is best” attitude. However, God is VERY clear about tithing. Most people quote the scripture in Malachi 3:10. “Bring the FULL tithe into the storehouse…” but God does not require this to teach us to be charitable and generous. Charity and generosity are acts that make us feel good, that produce a dopamine reaction, that make us feel encouraged and more positive about the world. They make us feel better about ourselves. While all of that is great, it’s not what God is teaching us through tithing. In the verses prior to Malachi 3:10, God is angry with his people. God feels betrayed and mocked. God says “Do you think I don’t see what you are doing?” God’s children were cheating God! They were bringing cattle that were sickly or deformed to God’s alter. They were cutting corners. They were going through the motions but there was no gratefulness, there was no thankfulness, and there was no relationship with God. Imagine wrapping up a bunch of trash and putting it under the Christmas tree for your family? Or randomly ordering stuff off Amazon and randomly giving it to your family and friends for Christmas; wrong sizes, no relevance to the person who receives the gift, or given with an attitude of “look what a great present I can afford to buy you.” None of that is loving, none of that shows a relationship with the person who received the gift. Beyond that, it’s insulting. THIS is what God is accusing his children of doing to him. They were giving but they didn’t care about the recipient. You see, tithing is an act - not of charity - because God does not need charity. Tithing is an act of FAITH and COMMITMENT and RELATIONSHIP. When we bring the “full fruits” we are bringing the best we can. We are saying that we trust absolutely no one else for our wellbeing. We don’t trust ourselves, we don’t trust compounding interest, we don’t trust our insurance policies, we don’t trust our real estate holdings, we singularly trust God. We are saying “here is my best effort, do what you want with it.” It is extremely hard to tithe. And the more you make the harder it is. When I was starting out as a social worker in 1987, my annual salary was $14,600. Tithing $1460 a year felt like a huge amount of money. Now I am 38 years into my career. What I tithe equals my first year salary! I look at that amount and think of the beach house I dream of owning and how my tithe could have paid for that beach house…but here is the absolute truth, I am only in the position to dream about a beach house because I learned to tithe as an act of faith. When God says “On THIS you can test me” he is not kidding. I have said that to him so many times in my life. “God, you said I could test you.” God has never failed me. Not only has God provided for everything I need, he has blessed me in ways that have nothing to do with money…safety, happiness, contentment, success, health…and as I learned to trust God for everything, I learned to love him more and more and more. God’s greatest desire is that we will love him with our whole heart. God wants to take care of us, he wants to give us every good thing! He is not interested in how much we can accomplish or how talented we are with investments. He doesn’t want to watch us succeed from the sidelines. He wants to exist is a partnership/relationship with us. Tithing is about trusting God. It’s about seeing our faith multiply, and while our faith grows our understanding of God’s holiness grows, as well. Bring the very best of what you earn to God and tell him, I only trust you to take care of me. Tell him that your complete trust and faith is in Him, and test Him. Tell him your anxieties about your finances, your future, the shaky economy…watch and see what He will do. Tithing is a very personal contract with God. Tithing is imperative to truly understand how Holy God is. You are taking the earnings that are so hard to come by and you are saying “I could do a thousand things with this money, and there are a thousand investment opportunities out there, and I have all these bills that need to be paid but I am ignoring my own desires to seek Your will, wisdom, discernment and my tithe is proof of my commitment to rely on you. On this you can test him!

Joshua Self-Fralick

My pastor left my chair to go to to be administrative pastor and disciple people so maybe you might’ve let him do that RUSLANKD just don’t agree with the government. I’m probably gonna get pushed back with this loveThe people of Jerusalem that’s funny they automatically filled in Jerusalem I love the people Jerusalem. God bless them.

God bless you my mom is a waitress and I do the same thing so amen you

Heather Farnsworth Hill

Great interview. This was an excellent perspective after the transparency guy. However- he really made me think deeply.

SunkotaRidgeBaskets

Excellent interview! I have always taught my daughter, who is now married with 2 daughters! I was raised Baptist, however I raised my daughter Catholic( long story) I loved the reverence of the Catholic Church and accountability through confessions! When she turned 18 I told her it was her choice but I had raised her in Catholic Church to keep piece and now I have to go back to my Baptist roots and I would like for her to join me because, you still don’t know any of the stories and teachings of the Bible. The Catholics don’t carry their Bibles so all they know is what are placed for them to read during Mass. She did go with me and there was a great youth group and she learned the Bible and was Baptized! She is a great mother and great at teaching the Bible to her girls. Having said this, of course you want a great Pastor and things to happens sometimes, I had told her from experiencing both Faiths to not put emphasis on a Pastor. Put emphasis on how they deliver the word of God!

Teena

Tithing is the donation of one-tenth of one’s income to God’s Church. This commandment has been known since Old Testament times. The prophet Malachi taught the importance of tithing and the blessings that come from obeying this law: “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, … and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it” (Malachi 3:10).

Teena

Although some people have difficulty believing that they can afford to contribute one-tenth of their income, faithful tithe payers learn that they cannot afford not to pay tithing. In a very real and wonderful way, the windows of heaven are opened, and blessings are poured out upon them. As one widowed mother explained to her son, “I cannot [raise you children] without the blessings of the Lord, and I obtain those blessings by paying an honest tithing. When I pay my tithing, I have the Lord’s promise that he will bless us, and we must have those blessings if we are to get along” (Dallin H. Oaks, Ensign, May 1994, 33).

Teena

Tithing is the Lord’s law of finance for His Church. Tithing donations are always used for the Lord’s purposes, which He reveals through a council of His servants. Some of these uses are: Building and maintaining temples, chapels, and other Church buildings. Supporting the activities and operations of local Church congregations. Supporting the programs of the Church, including education and family history research. Tithes are paid privately, and information about donations is kept strictly confidential.

Teena

Why is tithing important? Leviticus 27:30 (Bible, Old Testament) Luke 12:16–21 (Bible, New Testament) What blessings come from paying tithing? Malachi 3:8–12 (Bible, Old Testament; see also 3 Nephi 24:8–12, Book of Mormon, page 455) Matthew 6:31–33 (Bible, New Testament; see also 3 Nephi 13:31–33, Book of Mormon, page 435) “Tithing,” True to the Faith (The missionaries or a member of the Church can help you obtain a copy of this book. You can also find it online at www.mormon.org.)

Shawn, I had almost all the same questions you raise and what really answered a lot for me was The Bible Project and Dr. Michael Heiser. Great show as always!

Great book about spiritual warfare is "The Unsceen Realm" by the late Michael Kaiser

Bryan Carter

What a testimony! Great interview, very eye opening and so true!

Don't listen to date setters Ryan on the rapture but Matt 24 explains worldwide intensity and the intensity of everything worldwide and in Israel for they are to flee into Petra I believe need to look at the geography and you can bank if you don't help others with basic needs thirsty, clothing(hmm like the homeless) we are in the end.

Tina

His explanation and Value of tighing is fabulous

Justin Larson

Hey SHAWN I was thinking about what you said to him about asking questions and not being able to ask them in church. My church that I go to actually does a fellowship on Sunday nights where we go and talk about what we learned for the day and that’s the time where we can ask our pastor what he feels was the meaning of something and we can ask the group as a whole because not everybody knows not even the pastor. I’m glad you brought what you did.

Ira Cole

You should reach out to Craig Groeschel at LifeChurch, I think he would be a very good person for you to even just talk to if you can about faith and church. When I moved to Oklahoma my parents found this church and went and talked to a local pastor just to get a feel on how they operate as a church. It is because my parents faith and guidance that I am who I am today but also through Craig's ministry that my faith has been what it is. I've had bad times don't get me wrong but the powerful messages put out by Craig have been such a huge influence on my life!

Comparing preachers pay that is tax free to teachers pay is wild

When you give, you give because it was put on your heart. What the person/people do with it is between them and God. You did your part. Bless your heart.
