Louisa Nicola is a neurophysiologist, performance specialist, and founder of Neuro Athletics, a company focused on brain optimization and neurophysiology for elite performers. A former professional triathlete, Nicola’s early career in endurance sport shaped her belief that peak performance is driven as much by the brain as by the body. Her transition from elite competition to neuroscience was fueled by a desire to understand the neurological foundations of reaction time, resilience, recovery, and long-term cognitive health.

Through Neuro Athletics, she works with professional athletes, sports organizations, executives, and high performers to implement measurable brain-based training protocols. Her work includes cognitive performance testing, visual processing and reaction training, nervous system regulation, and concussion recovery strategies. Nicola emphasizes objective brain metrics over subjective feedback, bringing scientific rigor to performance optimization.

She is also the host of The Neuro Experience podcast, where she interviews leading neuroscientists, physicians, and longevity experts. A significant focus of her public work centers on Alzheimer’s prevention and cognitive decline. Nicola advocates for early baseline testing, cardiovascular and metabolic health, strength and aerobic training to increase BDNF, sleep optimization, inflammation reduction, and lifelong cognitive engagement. She frequently highlights the disproportionate risk women face in Alzheimer’s disease and calls for greater awareness around hormonal and midlife cognitive vulnerability.

Nicola frames brain health as a lifelong discipline, connecting elite performance principles with long-term cognitive resilience and positioning brain optimization not as a reactive measure, but as a proactive strategy beginning in early adulthood.

Really interesting so far. Personally I think food and all the modified shit they feed people play a big part in modern illnesses

Michael Whisenand

We are lucky to have her in this field. She's brilliant.

Jesse

This was such a good and eye opening episode man. Absolutely loved it!

Amazing the level of fraud out there . The big Corporations don’t care about long term effects on humans they only care about the profits. Louisa Nicola is at the tip of the ice berg . I wonder what you have to go through and how much some of these tests would cost to find some of these markers she’s talking about . Then there’s insurance companies that are happy with big pharma pumping out bandaids to cover up the root cause of things like Blood Pressure problems. I started looking into Gary Breka after he started talking about our overall body make up . What we are lacking or having to much of . I’m so interested in these kind of interviews because this is what we should be focusing in on . Thanks for doing what you do , Shawn ! God Bless us All !

keeps saying lead in waxcines ---she should know thymerisol is mercury and the preservative that was used for years and still is in some.

DMJ Joyce

A very good, edifying, interview.

I used to sleep better with the red lights at night on the ship and after her saying that helps I'm going to get some red light bulbs and try that again

Really glad I watched this right before my 30s which will be the foundation. Definitely glad I used the ladder half of my 20s building a foundation of health & fitness with weight training, walking with weight, super basic supplementation, and prioritizing sleep. What I've learned as this routine became normal was it was it truly is all for my mindset and my brain; the things controlling how I operate. Noted on monitoring blood pressure. Dang tho, the absolute fraud, strikes again, no wonder US is obese af. If what she says about that single alzheimers drug on the market is true that it sucks, she's brave. as far as the cortisol part, wonder how that relates to cortisol being super high in the morning and working out in the morning moderates it throughout the day making you less stressed with things vs. if you did not work out. Funny how she mentions loss of connection, meanwhile the pandemic fast tracked that.

I’m gonna have to dig around a little bit with her podcast. I’d like to see if any of her information is applicable to rehabilitation of stroke victims. I have a friend that survived a stroke.

Zachariah Boggs

So glad this came out, I’ve been wanting to be healthier and get better sleep and BAM shawn gave it to us. Thank you both for what u do!

Doug Rose

Dang, she's the total package!! Shawn, please introduce me to her!! She has that freakin' awesome Aussie accent that is a cherry on top!!

Cam

ALZheimers. Not all timers. 😬

Amazing convo! Didn’t agree on all topics but that’s the point of having conversations. FDA being the “gold standard” for safety is laughable given how many items get recalled every year. Also many FDA approved products don’t follow a zero tolerance policy when it comes to prohibited/unsafe ingredients… usually it’s an acceptable amount issue. But you should avoid black market peptides.

M. Gribben

Yes! The devices are stressful and data collectors!

Hugo H

This was informative. Thank you Shawn and Louisa.

Shawn, you always do great interviews from many different angles of life and professions. May I recommend someone you may find astounding? MG (Ret.) Patrick Brady, he was an Army Dustoff pilot during Vietnam, DSC and CMH recipient, who was a huge piece in making Army Aeromedical Evacuation a huge and irreplaceable part for the military. I just finished reading his book, “Dead Men Flying,” and his story is breathtaking. After you did Mike Durant, it got people I know within Army Aviation talking, and I think MG Brady would give a great angle on the importance and great history and culture of Army Dustoff. Thanks always, Shawn, and Christ bless you as you continue to grow in your faith and serve the broader community with spreading truth and stories through your podcast!

She needs to stay in her lane. She’s a neuropsychologist. She sounds so unintelligent speaking about vaccines, disease processes and pharmaceuticals. Losing credibility quickly. I’m 2.5 hours in and not sure I’ll finish it because she’s totally lost the plot. There’s so much nuance she’s missing. Tuning out. She has a great story about how she started out and has obviously accomplished a great deal. But she needs to stick with her specialty.

SABOT-K.O.

Holy shit! This woman is brilliant. Great guest SRS

Shawn who is this lady, her informations off on peptides. Almost 100 different peptides have human research studies completed and are already approved for use in humans here in the United States. The NIH (US gov. agency National Institutes of Health) is where I obtained this information. SS-31, Tesamorelin, oxytocin, GLP-1 weight loss drugs and insulin are just a few that have passed rigorous clinical trials. We have been studying peptides in the United States medical community going back to the 1920s. She's not a doctor and she certainly didn't do basic research before speaking on the subject.. I'm not surprised Andrew Huberman called her out. I usually like your guests because they speak honestly, not off-the-cuff. Peptides show a lot of promise and are definitely the future of medicine. Particularly in treating and possibly curing horrible diseases like alzheimer's. Im a former ACLS-EMT3 (i.e. paramedic) the widow of an OEF combat veteran. I read medical studies for fun because healing, particularly in our community is very important. Several peptide, some she named, show real promise to the point they're banned by WADA in professional sports because they expedite healing and improved performance. We need safe and effective pathways in healing. Part of that is reliable information. She's an articulate speaker i'll give her that, but she needs to educate herself on the subject matter for which she's trying to speak on at a professional level. Please edit this video before you guys lose credibility. Much luv from Alaska

Really enjoyed this episode but she may have explained mosaic LOY a bit more accurately and declare anecdotes . Overall, I feel she validated my lifestyle choices, advocated for avoiding preventable diseases through healthier lifestyle choices , and represents the medical community well.

Kurt Nagl

Shawn, I watched my mom suffer from Alzheimers for over a year. Then I watched her die over a period of 3 weeks last August after she suffered physical trauma. I wish I had been able to ask Louisa a question.

Tee Lock

I do wonder if the heat therapy study to treat mental health conditions took the placebo effect into account given that subjects were told the placebos were SSRIs

Shannon

Although I didn’t agree with everything she said, I found the interview insightful and very interesting. Interested to know her thoughts about the positive effects of methylene blue and high dose melatonin (200mg) suppositories. Chase Hughes found these to be curative for his brain issues. Also curious about C15:0 Pentadecanoic Acid Supplement rather than omega 3.

MVO

Shawn there are others in the field of ALZ that are much more informed with much more experienced than this woman. Her lens is conventional. I don’t disagree with everything- I like her exercise stuff. Speak with Dr Dale Bredesen if you want hope and help with ALZ! And she’s misrepresenting RFKjr. And her lack of information on the harms of vaccines seems to go unexpressed. Which tells one a lot about credibility. HPV is a problematic. Most vaccines didn’t eradicate. Look at how the disease was going away before vaccine widely distributed.

LeAnne Canton

I follow Louisa, she has helped me understand dementia so much. My mom has it and I don’t want it. She is amazing and I’m learning sooo much!!

LeAnne Canton

I think her theory on hormones for women is spot on. We’ve been lied to for well over 40 years about HRT. It is NOT the enemy.

David Helmbrecht

She's nuts I'm not listening to a thing she's saying!

Ken W

Really enjoyed this episode, I feel she was on point with most topics. She’s well read up on peer reviewed evidence based research studies, especially in her specialty!

MVO

If she’s not quoting Dr Dale Bredesen she’s not really well informed. She also is very conventional - she prefers drugs and big pharma. Here’s a great published successful study on reversing dementia Congratulations to Kerry Rutland, Dr. Neil Nathan, and Dr. Chi Kim on their landmark publication documenting the first example of reversal of cognitive decline in PCA (posterior cortical atrophy) (https://www.mdpi.com/2673-8937/6/2/20 ). PCA symptoms typically involve visual processing, so patients often lose the ability to read, have difficulty seeing cars when they drive, and have difficulty recognizing faces and objects in general. The underlying neuropathology in PCA is nearly always Alzheimer’s, as it was in this patient, and anywhere from 5-15% of Alzheimer’s patients begin with PCA. The patient reported in this paper regained her ability to read, was able to use her computer once again, improved her memory, improved her MRI volumetrics, and reduced her p-tau. Thank you to Kerry, Neil, and Chi for offering hope where there was none before.

Sound just quit ???

This lady lost me once said there was no reason to stop taking every vaccine and didn’t acknowledge any issues with the Covid shot or the unusually high rate of autism.

What about getting peptides from a compound pharmacy prescribed by a dr.

Shawn this was a GREAT show. I’m an expert in breathing, sleep, and craniofacial development. I can speak to so much of this content!!! I’m trained by The Breathe Institute in LA, I was one of only 30 to be that highly trained at that time. People have come to me from Texas/ Alaska and in between; I’m in Wisconsin. I’m so very passionate about my work and I’d love to be on your show! - Dr. Kristin Skow DDS
