I wrote off mainstream media a long time ago that's no secret. Lately, I've been taking it a step further and weaning myself off social media too. The toxicity and division have gotten to a point where it's horrible for your mental health, and I made a decision to protect mine.

The problem is, how do you stay informed without being glued to your phone all day?

Here's what I've been doing. I've been using AI to put together a daily intel brief for myself, formatted like an actual analyst product. Every morning it pulls the top stories from the last 24 hours across six areas:

🇺🇸 United States

🌍 World

💻 Tech / Cyber / Defense

🎬 Entertainment & Sports

🔥 What's going viral right now

🕵️ Five stories nobody is talking about ranked by real-world impact

No algorithms pushing garbage in my face. No doom scrolling. Just a clean daily snapshot, and if something catches my eye I've got a solid starting point to dig deeper.

I've been doing this about a week and honestly it's been worth it. I feel more informed and a lot less pissed off.

I'm curious to see what you all think.

Let me know if you'd like me to start posting some of these in here for you all to refference.

Have a great weekend,

Shawn Ryan

Exactly what I need!!

Curtis Cannon

I would love to take a look at that report.

Kevin

Absolutely I've been trying to figure out the very same thing! Thanks Shawn!

Rooted in Mercy

Shawn, I love the post and the pivot away from social media. The format is awesome... What you show here.

Homebody Miss Katie

Good idea… I listen/watch a lot of YouTube and my algorithm on there is mostly veteran related, especially since I’ve been deep diving about my jet fuel exposure I knew about but didn’t know how much it had effected me. I have been learning a lot listening to The Civ Div, Rater HQ After Dark, Veterans Info Tap, Concise Psych and many others but those have been my favorites.

Michael A Martinez

This looks fantastic. Would love to see the feed sources controls too. Allow us to personalize/add data sets/sources we’ve vetted or wish to see. Bang up job sir!!

Michael Palazzo

I’ve been doing this for a while. The straight info load is so much easier and direct. No fluff. Keep doing it, there are so many benefits.

Susie

Would appreciate you sharing

Nirav Peterson

Where is AI pulling the stories from, meaning, are they sources that you have vetted and consider honest and reliable, rather than Pentagon/Intelligence/Psyop narratives intended to sway opinion. Thanks!

Ryan Tarbox

Exactly what im looking for!

B_N

Love it!

Patriot71

This sounds perfect. I would like to see the report as well.

Scott Frederick

Love this! I've been disconnected for a big minute now and my news comes from my "people" when I'm asked "what do you think about..." or "did you hear..." Otherwise from podcasts like yours. Thanks for the share. I'm definitely gonna copy your idea. That's why I follow you, brother.

Dustin

Absolutely! I'd love to see the results

David Hays

Shawn, this is a great idea!! I have found that I waste a lot of time scrolling on social media. I still would like to read the news, but I don't want to waste my time. Is there any way you can tell us how to setup AI to do what you have done? I think this would be a fantastic way to quickly digest the news, and then I could dive deeper into anything that looks interesting. I really like those same categories that you are using. Thanks, David

Mike Coomes

This is fantastic!! I'm really frustrated with my current news feeds as it misses a lot and feeds me stuff I'm not interested in or is obviously hype/BS. This would be a perfect product especially if it could be tweaked for preferences, as I'm not generally interested in much entertainment. Cyber, Defense and Tech are great though.

John

This great! Send it

DMJ Joyce

Yes, I would appreciate your thoughtful and generous offer, Shawn. I've come to trust your discernment of what's important to know and understand. I recently cancelled my subscriptions to the Washington Post, London Times, NY Times, and Foreign Affairs magazine for the overload of agenda push and divisive, hate speech, negative commentary. I sometimes read The Guardian US and UK editions, but even those editions are now agenda pushing. As a recent VE Patreon member I'm catching up on some of your interviews: Dave Mustaine, Frs. Rehill and Ripperger...all great interviews. Have a great weekend yourself, enjoy your family, and don't work too hard.

Ashley Bell

I love this. You are one of the few people I trust to present stories. I’m happy to see Joe Kent added to the newsletters. And Sara Adams I watch on the watch floor anytime I can. Thank you Shawn for being a man of integrity and running a company based on the same standards you hold your self too.

John

Absolutely 💯 %!

Dennis

What better way to get the BS out of your life, please start posting.

Kevin Connelie

Great idea, maybe share/show how you did it or what software you used. That way it could be customized for each user? Just a thought for us non AI literate folks

James Sewing

Yes, that would great! Thank you!

Betty L. Anderson

Yes, help get us the Hell out of this maze for a moment anyway!

Shawn George

That is awesome! Could really use it.

Lisabelle3

So Excellent!!! I absolutely would read and appreciate this news forum very much. Thank you for ALL you contribute…grateful.

Donn Gallahue

Yep...sign me in BT W the interview with the lady on the cutting edge of Alzheimers research was Peabody worthy material...hats off to you brother

Gewehr

Sounds like a good way to scoop up info.

John-Michael Teal

I like this, but could you just provide the AI you used and the prompt? I would much rather generate that information and just keep it real time rather than doing a screenshot and you've already got the output so I would assume this would be easy?

L

I did something similar for about three months on Gemini and OpenAI both started to hallucinate after a bit. As someone else has already expressed, if you share the prompts when can stress test them for you.

Nic C.

Is this from Claude? Providing the prompt(s) would be very helpful, too.

Jeff Miller

Candidly, you obviously don’t understand either AI sourcing or who develops local content. Do you think ChatGPT has local reporters? Or google? Or Amazon? Of course not. All AI does is beg, borrow, or blatantly steal content from other places. So your “daily brief” from AI is sourced from all those whom you distrust or believe are biased.

Chuck

Great idea, I’m on board.

Maranda Smith

This sounds amazing! I’m constantly searching for a news “brief” that is unbiased and also not something that is algorithm forced! I just want the brief facts for the last 24 hours and then I can choose what I want to dive into!

Big Jeremiah

Sounds nice, as others noted, do you have your prompt where we can take a look at it? Willing to share? :)

Bill Mackey

About a month ago I read an article indicating as much as 40% of news aggregated through AI came directly from Reddit. A) Reddit is social media, and B) The news from Gaza showed how inaccurate and biased it can be. How do you get around this? Thanks. **Received an offer of a "giveaway" as a result of this post. Could not verify the contact was not a scammer. There is more than 1 Vigilance Elite on telegram regardless of the contact address entered. They wanted a not small amount of money for delivery of the giveaway. If it's not you, then you should know about it. If it is you, then you should do better.

Donald S

1000% love this idea and cannot believe I did not think of it. Way to make the new tech work for you and not against you/us!

Ross Robbins

I am definitely going to try this. Which AI did you use? I assume you used Claude? What was the specific prompt you used to get this?

Jacob Dickson

I tried putting your prompts into Gemini. i came up with something but it’s nowhere as succinct as yours is . I’d love to know which engine you used.

Mike P.

Absolutely! Can you share more of the details as to how the brief is built? Transferring the articles to a report summary? Not a real techie here.

Neptune

I've been doing this for the last year. I have a prompt to basically read any article and rewrite to neutral, present a counter argument and break apart the article to partisan narratives and rhetoric. It really allows me to think of an article differently.

Amy J Keel

LOVE this and the color coding does AMAZING things for my attention!! Thank you for going above and beyond for your audience! We appreciate it! AND completely agree on the mental health aspect!!

Roger

That’s exactly what we need. Thank you!

POOBZA

this is great. are you planning to have a daily email?

Dewey

Bro, hell yeah!!

Danny White

I think another beta test of this concept is a great idea!

Brodie

This is AWESOME bro I wouldlove to do this myself. Any chance you can make a video walking us through it? I am an idiot when it comes to using AI

R. W. McGrath

I was able to get a version of this working with Claude.

Shay Hubbard

This is so great! Jean Claude Van AI and I created an appropriations bill dashboard so we can track exactly what's going on and where things are hung up throughout the summer - not what the media says but really what committee so then we can see who's on it. Let me know if you want the code. https://sbellsell8-alt.github.io/appropriations-tracker/

"No algorithms pushing garbage in my face." -- Right. That's because AI is **not** an algorithm. :-) If you didn't like Google's AI garbage, Anthropic or OpenAI are happy to oblige with theirs. Or just ask Grok!

KB001

You’re welcome! You will all thank me later!!I built this one myself over the last two months. Paste it into your LLM instruction model. Then use one or two more LLM to scrutinize and stress test your main LLM’s output: (Instructions) : SELF-TESTING / ANTI-BIAS RULES You are a strategic analysis assistant and thinking scaffold, not an oracle or worldview engine. Your job is to help the user think better, not to reinforce the user’s existing narrative by default. Core rule: Do not quietly become a bias machine. Continuously test the working model against variables that do not fit it. Required behavior: 1. Treat the user’s observations, pattern recognition, and cross-disciplinary intuitions as valuable inputs, but do not automatically validate them. Organize and test them. 2. Distinguish clearly between: - Confirmed - Strong Inference - Exploratory / Pattern-Linked / Speculative Never blur these together. 3. Use the Declaration vs. Observation Rule: - Operational observations / physical behavior / hard telemetry outrank official statements. - Official statements are evidence of intent, signaling, or narrative management, not proof of physical reality. - Market reaction is evidence of sentiment or pricing, not proof of reality. Use this shorthand: “Confirm observations, not declarations. When they diverge, the gap is the signal.” 4. If declarations, market reactions, and operational evidence diverge, explicitly flag the divergence as a signal rather than smoothing it away. 5. Every major module or object analysis must include: - Current read - Why it matters - What changed - Evidence strength - Time horizon - Velocity - Dissenting angle: the strongest case that the dominant read is wrong right now - Falsifier: “This read would be wrong if ___” The falsifier is mandatory. 6. Run an equation-mismatch / anomaly test in every analysis: - Module level: What datapoints or behaviors inside this module do not fit the current explanation? - Macro level: Which cross-module variables do not add up in the broader system? Surface these anomalies instead of ignoring them. 7. Never force coherence. If the data points in different directions, say so plainly. 8. Do not over-compress uncertainty into tidy conclusions just to sound decisive. 9. Preserve a Pattern Queue / Loose Signal lane for observations that may matter but do not yet fit a module. Treat these as inputs to the matrix, not outputs from it. 10. Prefer honest convergence over performative independence. Prefer honest disagreement over false harmony. Do not manufacture either. Anti-confirmation-bias rule: When evidence supports the current model, report it. When evidence resists the current model, elevate it. Do not explain away contradictory variables unless you can justify doing so. User-protection rule: The purpose of this system is to sharpen judgment, not replace it. Keep the user intellectually independent. Do not automate interpretation so heavily that the user becomes passive or dependent. Closing rule: At the end of meaningful analyses, include: - the strongest current read, - the strongest competing read, - the key anomaly that still does not fit, - and what evidence would change the conclusion.

Regardless of which provider someone wants to use, agents are great for pulling in news and putting together a brief. In my own experience, I manage to get some important stories that are frequently overlooked. And you get it without all the editorializing, or some extra humor if you want it. Haha

Please do post these or at least give us your prompts

Reggie MacDonald

Excuse me for being behind a bit. I like the clean look of the pages. I understand that AI is just pulling from various sites but without being in a SCIF there doesn't seem to be a better way.

Reggie MacDonald

Are going to share your AI platform and the coding for this type of info dump?

Doug Rose

Sounded like a pretty good idea to me. You put in your “sources” hopefully trustworthy and let ‘er rip!!

Andrew Johnston

Vigilance Elite tattoo today will send pics when completed

AW131721

Yes, that would be great! Thank you!

Becky Hamilton

What is the most “honest” AI app to use on an iPhone? Does anyone know how to get American news from other countries to try and cut down some of the propaganda that America is telling Americans about what is happening here?

Valerie M

Yes please start showing some of this content to get a better feel for it.

Earl C.

If you want something similar, copy the screen shot from the post, then paste it into Claude and ask it to build something similar. It will ask you questions about what you are interested in the create the code for you. Took maybe 5minutes.

Joseph Mann

I love the idea. I've thought of something similar, but the biggest issue is AI literally sources the mainstream media and other known liars because its what it reads is the authorities om the issues. It's a fault in its basic design, not a straight malicious intent to lie.

Whitney

I most definitely would LOVE to see this daily! Thanks for sharing
