I'm just going to say it. The Chimera Ant Arc is one of my favourite in all of anime. A crazy title for sure, but goodness this thing just belted from start to finish!

Whenever someone asks me which shonen anime made me cry the most, I answer Hunter x Hunter in a heartbeat—because of Meruem and Komugi's last gungi game. I can't even count how many times I've rewatched that scene, and I still bawl every single time. It was bittersweet. When the two of them realized they were born for that moment, I felt such deep emotion 😭 Some people hate the Chimera Ant arc because they find this angle too "cheesy" (ugh, shonen bros 😒). But for me, I saw a level of depth in Meruem that I rarely see in a shonen villain. Togashi humanized him in the most emotional and heartfelt way 🥺 That last part of the gungi game, where Meruem keeps asking if Komugi is still there—I think I read somewhere that, due to the poison, he had already lost his sense of sight. In the manga panel, it's just a plain black page with text bubbles. But the way they animated that scene was so beautiful 🥺 Also, those who are saying what Meruem and Komugi have isn't love---then how the hell do they even explain what it is? 😩

Absolute Cinema is all I need to say (edit: lmao just heard u say the same exact thing at the end). Also, the Gyro stuff might be a bit confusing for you since the anime skipped a manga chapter earlier in the Chimera Ant arc.

One of my favourite arcs in anything, not just HxH for sure. I'd say most have it as the best HxH arc but some people will put Yorknew close to it or slightly above it.

I want to say Yorknew is my favorite because of the phantom troupe, but yeah the narrator in the chimera arc did a fantastic in elevating this arc to the top of this series for me.
