Shikamaru shows how deeply the war changed him. Unlike his lazy, “troublesome” younger self, he now carries the weight of leadership and the Hokage’s trust. He struggles with the darker side of being a shinobi — secrecy, assassination missions, and the feeling that peace depends on quiet sacrifices people don’t notice. His doubts reveal his humanity: he wonders if he’s only meant to live in the shadows, supporting others but never living freely for himself. Gengo, the antagonist, attacks Shikamaru psychologically rather than physically, amplifying his guilt and fears. For a moment, Shikamaru nearly gives in, showing how vulnerable even the sharpest strategist can be when confronted with their own insecurities. What saves him is his ability to reflect on his bonds — remembering Asuma’s will, Naruto’s dream, and his comrades’ trust. This shows his growth: he doesn’t carry everything alone anymore. By the end of Episode 493, Shikamaru embraces his place as someone who will stand beside Naruto as his shadow and strategist. Instead of resenting his “behind-the-scenes” role, he finds pride in it, realizing that his calm, calculating nature is exactly what the next era needs. This is a huge step in his maturity — moving from reluctant responsibility to chosen purpose. These episodes highlight why Shikamaru becomes Naruto’s closest advisor in the Boruto era — he’s the perfect balance of brains, loyalty, and quiet strength.

For me, I'm not to interested in the movies tbh. If they are posted I'm sure I would watch them, but if I know something isn't canon then I'm just less interested. Do whatever you feel like, if you want to post them go for it, whatever you want to do works for me.

Thanks heaps for letting me know man! I'm pretty much the same to be honest. Like if I miss the OG franchise an insane amount then I'll probably tune in to watch them but yeah I definitely prefer to keep the story going!

Lok I thought it was kinda clear that Naruto is gonna be hokage and Shikamaru is already the advisor for Kakashi

LKTV (Lok)

Yeah you're right on that man! I just don't really want to hear about Boruto yet or anything that happens in it beyond my own speculations, just until we get there! That's just my thing but you're totally right. That is pretty clear. Sorry man!

I really liked the road to Ninja movie since we get to see some more of Naruges parents, the others movies are kinda meh. If you dont react to it its find but its definetly worth the watch.
