I liked that you mentioned rewatching this show, I finished the show a couple weeks ago and am now rewatching it already through your videos, the show just keeps getting better.

Sakura

I discovered the actress (Tian Xi Wei) with another drama "Moonlit Reunion" (it's a Xianxia - Costume fantasy) and I must say that I really like her, she seems really talented. I will probably watch her other projects when I have finished the cdramas I am currently watching.

Okay, if you are interested about the currency, you can read this. Otherwise don't bother 🤣 For the money, you can base the currency on - 1 Tael of Gold = 10 to 16 Taels of Silver: Most historical sources and Cdramas use a specific conversion rate. The most common standard is 1 tael of gold for 10 taels of silver (1:10), though some periods (like the Ming or Qing dynasties) could go up to 1:16. - 1 Tael (Gold or Silver) = ~37 to 40 grams: The tael is a unit of weight, not a specific coin. One tael is roughly equivalent to 37.5 grams. - Gold Ingots (金元宝, jīnyuánbǎo): Those boat-shaped gold ingots are often valued as one or more gold taels depending on their size. - 1 Wen (copper coins), the most used for common people. With 1 wen you could buy a steamed bun or candy. With 10-20 wen, a bowl of noodles or a pot of tea at an inn. With 100 wen, a decent meal for one person. The Complete Pyramid (Simplified for Dramas): 1 Gold Tael = 10 Silver Taels 1 Silver Tael = 1,000 Wen (Copper coins) 1 Gold Tael = 10,000 Wen Note on Carrying Money: This is why wealthy heroes use silver ingots or banknotes (yínpiào): carrying 1,000 copper coins is very heavy, while a small silver ingot fits easily in a sleeve. What about the difference with the currency of the modern world: it’s complicated 😅 but - Value by Era (Estimated in Dollars) A tael was worth much more in ancient times (when silver was rare) than in later dynasties. • Tang Dynasty (Golden Age): Approx. 270 – 540 per tael. During this era, 10 taels was a small fortune. • Song Dynasty: Approx. 140 – 250 per tael. • Ming Dynasty: Approx. 85 – 110 per tael. • Qing Dynasty (Most common in dramas): Approx. 21 – 32 per tael. - The "Wen" (Copper Coin) in Modern Money Following the standard drama ratio (1 Tael = 1,000 Wen) for the Qing period: 1 Wen ≈ just a few cents (0.02-0.03). 10 Wen (a bowl of noodles) ≈ 0.30. This seems very cheap by modern standards because labor and basic goods were inexpensive. Here some examples of purchasing power to give context to drama scenes: - A luxury feast costing 10 taels (Ming/Qing era) would be like spending 300 to 1,100 today. - A dowry or gift of 1,000 taels is equivalent to gifting a luxury house or apartment (30,000 to 110,000 depending on the era). - The annual salary of a low-ranking provincial magistrate was about 45 taels, or roughly 1,450 to 5000 per year (living costs were very low). Important Note: Drama writers often exaggerate these sums. When a character bets "10,000 taels," they are essentially throwing around hundreds of thousands of dollars!

Simply stunning

Mimi

Watched just about all her other dramas; they were all quite different and very good.

Hi! I just wanted to say how happy I am that I found your channel—your Pursuit of Jade reactions have honestly been such a joy for me to watch. There’s something really special about how you notice the little details—whether it’s the cultural background or the humor. I imagine that’s not easy at all, given different languages and contexts, but you capture it so naturally, and it makes the experience feel richer for viewers like me. And I must say, as someone who’s a fan of Tian Xiwei, it genuinely makes me so happy hearing you appreciate both her beauty and her acting. It’s such a small thing, but it brings me a lot of joy. I really, really hope you’ll continue reacting to the full drama—I’ll be right there watching along. Thank you for what you do; it truly means more than you might realize.

Hi Mimi! This is such a beautiful thing to say. It made my day! I'm so glad that you enjoy the videos this much, and I'm equally as glad to have you here! There have been many times when I've doubted myself and thought that my videos might not really do much for anyone, but your words mean a lot to me. Thank you so much for your kindness and love, and I can't wait to continue watching Pursuit of Jade with you!

The cast for this drama is the best! I agree, the characters feel so real. She's so endearing, strong, but also vulnerable at the same time. He's so beautiful and cares for her behind the scenes. And Ning is just so adorable, while Mr and Mrs Zhao has become parent figures for the girls. Love the cast so much. ❤ Even the robotic falcon has personality. 😂
