The contrast between all the scheming and arguing at court and the everyday life in Xigu Alley is such a striking juxtaposition. Wandered here from your YouTube and am now off to binge the rest! One thing I like about the show is how it immerses you in the reality of being a remote, common, villager in ways you usually don't get in historical dramas (which are very capital and noble family centric). Like how quickly the women changed their attitude when they realized Li was an official - the power an official wields is so vast compared to them that any involvement with it is dangerous. They went from being happy to gossip with a random stranger to terrified to even be approached by him in a heartbeat.
