I agree it seemed a bit rushed at the end. I did wanted more of our 3rd couple moments too. Their and 1st lead couple life after. Loved your reactions to your first cdrama and it was great! As well I'm excited to see more of your reactions to cdrama in the future. No need to rush.

Something to know about C-dramas is that Chinese censorship works in truly mysterious ways, especially around violence and familial “values.” Zhang Linghe filmed far more material than what aired, including combat scenes. BTS footage exists of scenes that never made the cut, and some scenes were filmed multiple ways to try and pass censorship. My theory is that the uncle-vs.-nephew fight was heavily cut because Wei Yan is essentially a father figure to Xie Zhang. Letting that confrontation go fully all-out may have conflicted with the emphasis on filial piety. I also suspect the second and third sections lost significant material during review, forcing the production to stretch the earlier portion—especially since the romance likely faced fewer obstacles. And PoJ gained significant worldwide attention during its airing, even drawing government attention to comment on Xie Zhang being “too pretty”. That level of visibility may have brought even greater scrutiny and last minute censorship. The extended bed scene aired originally and then was gone the next day. All things considered, the uneven pacing starts to feel less like bad storytelling and more like a production trying to piece together a coherent drama from whatever material survived review. Something worth considering when choosing your next C-drama: Which storylines are least likely to be gutted by censorship?

We didn't need end credit scenes at all hahahaha... but okay. Well, we're done, I'm kind of glad.

Me too till the end. Loved listening to your reactions. I wasn't too bothered about the pacing as loved the overall story and have watched much worse stuff from all countries over the years lol. Irony in that politics is poking into the productions, must be a headache for the production teams, the politicians should be exiled to the Northern province. This was a low budget production and the some of the actors took a pay cut to make it. When Changhu returned to Lin'an, I feel that the spirits of those killed were welcoming her back and they are happy in the afterlife. I enjoyed the sliding doors at the end and Qi Min as the benevolent ruler he could have been, but then no Bauer! I totally agree that it would have been so great to see more of Gongsun and the princess together, that was such an amazing love story. Looking forwards to the next C drama, and now going to focus on ypur other reactions. Loving your site.

Of course! We're your fans from all over Bilibili who have been watching with you from episode one until the very end. Huge congrats on finishing your first Chinese drama! You made it through such a long series!

Coco T

Watched most of your PJ reaction on bili and then found you here haha

A bit late, but I'm here and sticking around until the end! 😊 The pacing has always been my biggest issue with Cdramas, but when the story is really good, it's easy to overlook. I guess it's partly because so many of them are adapted from novels, and censorship definitely doesn't make things any easier for the production team. Either way, I'm glad this was a good first Cdrama for you!

The fact that he changed all the ribbons on the tree to match Changyu’s is hilarious. That man doesn't play with fate 😂 He replaced all of them by ones inscribed with both his name and Changyu's name. So, he ensures that no matter where Changyu tosses her ribbon, it will always interwine with his 😂

Oh, that's what they were showing to us! Would have been great if they added subtitles to that part so everyone who doesn't know hanzi that well could understand that too. 😂
