First of all, I just want to say how much I appreciate your reactions! I’ve genuinely been learning so much about Korean and Japanese history, and even a bit of Chinese history whenever you bring it up. It’s fascinating to me because you’re not just reacting to the show, you’re also providing historical context and sharing facts I wasn’t necessarily aware of before. It makes the whole experience so much more interesting, so thank you for that! There’s also something I wanted to mention about General Sato Shinichi. I’m not entirely sure if I understood your interpretation correctly, but I got the impression that you believe he’s ethnically Korean and was raised to become Japanese. From what I understood, and later looked into, it’s actually the opposite. Shinichi is ethnically Japanese, but he was born and raised in colonial Korea. That’s why the Japanese officers from mainland Japan look down on him. Despite being Japanese himself, he’s still treated as inferior because of where he grew up. And I think this makes the relationship between him and his adopted son, Hideo, SO much more fascinating! Because they’re almost mirrors of each other, but in opposite directions. Shinichi is a Japanese man who grew up in Korea, while Hideo is a Korean who was raised to live as Japanese. Both experience discrimination, but for completely different reasons and to different degrees. What I find particularly interesting is how neither of them seems to be fully accepted by the society they’re trying to belong to. Shinichi is Japanese by blood, yet his upbringing in the colony makes him somehow “less Japanese” in the eyes of others. Meanwhile, Hideo has been raised with a Japanese identity, but his Korean origins are something he can never truly escape in the eyes of that same society. And I wonder how much of their personalities, ambitions, and decisions are shaped by that lifelong need for recognition, acceptance, and belonging. Especially Shinichi, who holds so much power over Koreans while simultaneously seeking validation from Japanese people who look down on him. There’s such an interesting contradiction there: someone who experiences discrimination within a colonial hierarchy while also actively participating in and enforcing that very system. I also love how the writers created this parallel between father and son, because it shows that discrimination isn’t always experienced in the same way, even by people who are part of the same family. Their circumstances are different, their positions of power are different, and the consequences of that prejudice are different, but both seem deeply affected by questions of identity and belonging. Anyway, I just thought this was such an interesting layer to their characters, and I’d love to hear your thoughts on it! Thank you again for bringing so much historical knowledge into your reactions. It’s honestly one of my favorite parts of watching along with you!

Kim Yoo-jung is actually my favorite Korean actress, so I’m LOVING how much you’re appreciating her acting!! I genuinely think she’s incredibly talented, but some of her previous projects haven’t really allowed her to show her full potential. I HIGHLY recommend Dear X! Her performance genuinely blew me away. It’s such a complex and challenging character, and she absolutely nailed it. The writing was incredible at first, but I personally think the writers messed up towards the end. Still, I was so invested in her character and performance that she alone made the drama worth watching! And she’s absolutely amazing in 100 Days of Lies too! I remember her mentioning in an interview that she became so immersed in this role that she even started having nightmares. That really shows how much she puts into her characters. I’m completely obsessed with this drama and just praying they don’t ruin the ending, because it has the potential to become one of my all-time favorites 😭 Also, I know you’re hesitant about My Demon because of Song Kang 😂, but if you enjoy rom-coms, I’d still recommend it! It’s not particularly impressive in terms of writing or acting demands, but their CHEMISTRY is absolutely insane. Honestly, some of the best chemistry I’ve ever seen in a K-drama! I’m just so happy she’s finally getting more challenging roles that truly showcase how talented she is!!

I'm loving this drama so much so far! I feel like this one will be at the top for this year for me... For me East Palace is far below this one... but when it comes to Teach You A Lesson I can't tell at the moment, I really loved that one.
