i wake up to the phone ringing on my bedside. whenever you call me late, i usually know exactly what that means. the moment i hear your voice on the other end, i know what you need. you just woke up from another nightmare. all i can think is i should’ve stayed with you tonight. you knew i had work in the morning, so you insisted that i not stay over but i shouldn't have listened. i’m already rolling out of bed, already searching for clothes, already telling you to hold tight. literally just five minutes, that’s all i need, and i'll be on my way over. it doesn’t matter how late it is. if you need me, then i'll be there to take care of you. i’ll be at your door before you know it, and once i’m there, we’ll get you back to sleep the right way.
