i knew it was going to be storming all night long. my hope was that you would fall asleep long before the thunder and lightning hit. before the wind and the rain. and you did but a boom from above woke you from your sleep just as i was entering mine. your hands reach across the bed to find me, your fingers reaching for skin. there's no way you're going back to sleep now, wired from the noise, anxious about everything else. if only there was some way to turn off your brain. give you something to think about so fully you couldn't possibly think about anything else.
