so firstly, the cannibal story hange told is based on a scottish folklore where a man named sawney bean, who lived w his inbred family of around 50 ppl, cannablized over 1000 ppl in the span of two decades. it's never been confirmed to be true, however, and a lot of ppl call it a myth secondly, about them calling hange sir, it's a mistranslation im pretty sure and they actually just call her squad leader. but in the manga, hange remains genderless throughout the whole story. she's pretty androgynous for the most part and isayama left her gender up to interpretation, saying she's whatever you want her to be. but the anime decided to make it pretty clear she was a girl, so most fans use she/her when talking about her

oh also anime lovesss to use the trope of the strongest or the best usually being weirdos to some capacity. that's why you'll find the elites in whatever anime usually having varying personalities or being very eccentric. although i think it makes more sense in aot cause you def have to be some typa crazy to not only join the survey corps, but also be the best of them ykwim? this is kinda relevant, but it reminds me of the times ive heard volleyball or hockey players say that liberos and goalies are usually kinda weird in some way and they reason it w the fact that ppl in those special defensive positions have to be a little crazy to choose the position that gets balls/pucks thrown at them constantly
