Feel free to speak your minds, guys! I think the discussions are good to have. The manga’s been finished for a while and the anime’s almost over too, so having discussions like this, between new fans, old fans, and die hard fans, keeps the series alive even when there isn’t new content releasing. Plus it’s interesting getting different perspectives on the series

I can definitely agree that asahi’s not as good as bokuto, ushijima or Alan

If you’re curious, during the spring tournament, the semi-final and final rounds of spring nationals are 5 set matches

Couldn’t agree more Virgil 🙌🏽😊 Heavy on the keeping it alive. Also on a side note , how’s the sport you doing now going ? - Maya

Thanks so much for asking! 😊 Volleyball’s so much fun! I really regret not joining my school’s club when I was there. I’m trying to become a setter but, tbh I’ve been slacking recently with the gym and and practising at home compared to like a month ago. I took a break because of some fatigue in my upper back, but then the excuses kinda piled up 😓. I’ve been consistently going to play volleyball, but I don’t get much time to practice. It’s only once a week until I’m good enough for them to invite me for extra practice (imo it’s kinda counter-intuitive that it works like that). Plus, I think slacking with gym isn’t helpful when there are definitely some skills that I could improve upon if I spent a little more time there. I started getting back into my program over the weekend, with a few changes, so we’ll see how it goes. Regardless though, I can genuinely say I’m always excited to play more volleyball each week.

I think that's the coolest thing about Asahi too. He's not this well known national super ace, yet he's still competing with these insane stand out players. I feel like if he was a talent comparable to ushiwaka, bokuto etc it takes away a lot of what makes his character interesting.

SKY CLUB REACTS

Damnnn that’s so cool though you been going out to play volleyball still & Ik how it is with the inconsistency due to needing to take a break because of something like injury , but extending it out a little tooo long lol. Ik what’s been helping me recently is remembering to not wait until I’m motivated bc you’ll never always be motivated. Gotta force yourself 😂 But anyways hope you’re able to practice more soon! I experienced that too with a club during high school that invited our high school team to practice with them x times a week, but they only let like x2 players practice with them more days in the week based off skill they needed to play against ig . Idk was kinda weird .

Okay I’ve caught up to this episode and here are my thoughts. There’s a lot but hopefully you will give it a read. Everyone is entitled to their opinion based on what they observe, and your reactions, opinions, and thoughts are the reason we subscribe. I will say that while I know you don’t hate Asahi it did start to feel like you were hating on him because of the continuous jabs at him even when he wasn’t on screen. But I understand that when you’re thinking about something that you have a strong opinion about, your brain can stay on that topic even when the moment has passed. Maybe it’s because I’ve seen the show more than once that I can respectfully disagree with your assessment of Asahi. Everything that you mention that Tanaka does, Asahi has done consistently throughout the show. Other characters have something they have to prove so they require the spotlight. The 1st years have to prove themselves and are essentially the main characters of the Karasuno team. It’s been stated time and time again that the 3rd years are the established foundation and without them the 1st years wouldn’t be about to shine as much as they do because they wouldn’t have the support they need. We don’t get many impactful moments with Asahi to showcase what he can do and what he does because it’s was established in season one that he is the ace, given that title by this teammates. His team trusts him in that position because they know they can rely on him and he was fulfilling his position well enough last year that his team members felt they let him down when they lost because the bulk of the work was on him. Once Asahi came back in season one, regained his confidence, and reclaimed his title, the focus of the story shifted to the new teammates that had to figure out how they fit into the team. Asahi is always there, like your editor mentions. I agree with everything she said about this topic lol. I think sometimes when we watch longer series especially with gaps in between our viewing we tend to remember the bigger moments, things that stand out and wow us. I totally understand expecting the ace to have those big moments where you’re like, yeah I can see why he’s the ace. But this is how I think of it… Have you ever worked at a job and your boss/manager didn't pay a lot of attention to you but others got attention? At my job I work with a team that doesn't get as much attention as others and sometimes feels a bit forgotten even though we do some of the most important work. But that's because we're doing our job with very little issues. The other teams have issues often, require more attention to resolve those issues and then get pats on the back for working hard to do so. I don't take it personally because to me it means that I've proved myself trustworthy and competent enough that they don't have to peek in on me to make sure I'm doing my job. They know that I am and that I’m providing the value that’s needed. Asahi is doing his job. We see him scoring points here and there but he doesn't get much spotlight because the story already told us he's the ace, locked in, and so it can be assumed he's doing his job. I think we get so used to him scoring that we overlook when he does because it's not some big play, he's not the loud big personality comic relief that Tanaka is, and Hinata is scurrying around the screen so we pay attention to them. We do notice when he gets blocked and misses serves because we’re engrossed in the game play and want to see our team win and those times don’t help them win. But I think we see more of those times because Asahi gets the ball more than the other characters, and BECAUSE those times are pivotal to the game. I believe Asahi is the top scorer for the team as Hinata is not always on the court and can’t take on triple blocks and struggles most with teams that have great blocking. The ball also goes to Asahi more often than it does Tanaka. But I get it because in the past I’ve noticed that most of Tanaka’s spikes during rallies are successful compared to everyone else, not just Asahi, so it definitely can appear that he’s a better player. But we don’t see point for point so we don’t know for sure who is scoring or getting blocked more and I think that’s part of what you’re saying. You can only go by what you’re shown, but I also think that’s part of the frustration as well because Asahi has been shown as doing his job as the ace. We’ve seen throughout where competitors have referenced him as the samurai guy when talking about how good Karasuno has become, so the show is acknowledging and pointing out what couldn’t be actually shown in all of the matches. Coaches and players have talked about Karasuno’s strong left which is Asahi and Tanaka, and call Asahi a canon. So even though we haven’t seen everything he’s doing, it’s implied that he’s doing well enough to be talked about by others. Okay all of that to say that I respect your opinion, even though I disagree based on what I’ve observed, and still thoroughly enjoy your reactions. I see from your latest post that you’ve finished the show and I can’t wait to see those reactions as well.

I loved reading every word you've written about this. I appreciate how you've explained this in great detail. I guess I would've liked to see Asahi dominate the court a little bit more but I loved your analogy about a team work environment. Thank you for commenting your thoughts they mean a lot. No hate for Asahi at all. I'm still new to anime and sometimes I don't always get the nuances. ✌️ -YZ

This was so beautiful said. It encapsulates everything I wanted to say as well! Thank you for taking the time to type out the best response to their reaction and Asahi discussions. It was honest, yet respectful. I loved it!

I'm glad my comment was received well, I was honestly concerned about how long it was lol. I appreciate you taking the time to read it and respond. I definitely understand wanting to see Asahi be more dominate. He's so powerful so when he shows out it's definitely satisfying. It's like, we know you're the ace, but SAY IT WITH YOUR CHEST ASAHI! 🤣
