One of the best films we ever watched...

Just so you know.. there is a version with live orchestra on set with the movie playing on screen behind the orchestra where the music is played LIVE with it. Might wanna check that out on your own if you’re interested:) For me myself who is a music lover, that version pulled the heartstrings in a different way than the original movie version.

Aahhhhh I watched this in theaters with my friends (the visuals and music on a large screen is just ✨️) and I CRIED at the plot twist. Everything seemed so sweet and wholesome and BAM. THEY'RE ACTUALLY DEAD. THE WHOLE TOWN IS GONE. Man I was torn up. But if you've watched Japanese movies, I guess we should have known. But thankfully, this movie had a happy ending. There are a lot of movies that leave their endings ambiguous, which I assume it's meant like the characters are just continuing their lives or whatever, and some endings are sad (and even confusing.) I always interpreted the 8 as the ♾️ infinity symbol. But it's an interesting thought that she was the last one for this event, like closing the loop so it'll no longer happen. I didn't think of it that way. I wish I had insightful things to share but there's a lot in this movie and there are good sites and blogs that help unpack this movie but what YZ had said was really perfect and one way to describe this movie. I think this movie is made to be interpreted in whatever way the viewer needs. I think Mitsuha is very traditionally feminine and timid, but having to be and learn from Taki, she needed to be more firm and strong to help her town. It's a sma detail, and absolutely not the center plot, but it's something that someone can take away from this and hold onto.

Hey, it's so cool that you saw the film in theaters! This movie had so much quality and depth as we watched it at home so we can only imagine how the theater felt. There are so many gems in this film. I think you'd get a new understanding every time you watched it. -YZ
