ModForge Reborn: HFW Extension for Vortex | New version available (Patreon)
Content
For all the cautious souls clutching their beloved HFW MM mods collection like dragon hoards:If you previously used the HFW Mod Manager, you can safely install this Vortex extension — it won’t overwrite your existing mods folder. ModForge manages mods in a separate mods_Vortex folder, so you can always switch back to HFW Mod Manager if you prefer.
After spending way too many late nights poking around the Horizon Forbidden West game engine (and occasionally yelling at it), I didn’t just squash a few bugs—I also managed to drag my ModForge extension closer to the glorious vision I had in my head.
So… why “Reborn”?
Because this isn’t just a patch—it’s a resurrection. I’ve reimagined how mods should be packed and how conflicts should be handled, and the old way is officially six feet under.
The first big change: no more juggling side tools like some kind of digital circus act. Forget extra Mod Manager for packing and load order—everything now happens inside Vortex. One tool to rule them all, and in the darkness bind them.
The second change: conflict detection got a glow-up. Instead of the dreaded load order system (which, let’s be honest, has been the bane of my existence in every game ever), I went with a different approach—managing each conflict group individually. Think of it as breaking up fights one-on-one instead of trying to referee a chaotic bar brawl. Smart idea or questionable life choice? Only time (and your feedback) will tell. Until then, have fun with the new feature!
And the grand finale of changes: ModForge Extension now has its very own private mod folder. No more awkward roommate situation where it shares space with HFW Mod Manager.
What does that mean? It means if you switching from HFW MM you can flirt with Vortex all you want without the fear of waking up to find your entire mod collection mysteriously vanished. If ModForge Extension doesn’t win your heart and you decide to crawl back to HFW MM, your mods will still be sitting there, untouched.
