Broo "interlude : shadow" is such a MASTERPIECE!! yet so underrated ughh.. MOTS7 is genuinely one of my favorite BTS albums!

I'll do my best to explain shadow: basically, they use the metaphor of the shadow to describe the Jungian psychology concept of the persona, shadow and ego (which is why there is a song title for each), but essentially, the shadow represents the negative aspects of your nature, like greed, fears, anger, impulses, etc. It is also the aspect that the Ego (the centre of consciousness) rejects, which is why Yoongi is talking to his shadow, conflicted and wanting to reject this greed and hunger that he has for success. This is then flipped when the shadow is given a voice and basically says you have to admit that these negative aspects that you want to be rid of ARE a part of yoongi and that instead of rejecting and suppressing it he should accept his shadow and become whole which Carl Jung suggested was needed for one to achieve inner peace or something!! (sorry for rambling theres just a lot of psychology behind this album)

ADORA was an in-house producer and songwriter for Big Hit Entertainment from 2016 to 2021. She co-wrote and produced songs like Spring Day, IDOL and Boy With Luv. She also provided the distinct backing vocals and harmonies hidden across dozens of BTS tracks (like Suga's "Seesaw") before debuting as a solo artist.

MOTS:7 is THE album. Highest album sales during that time. Literally zero skip album. So sad they couldn’t do the MOTS tour because of covid, cuz it would’ve gone down in history books. Arirang is now doing what MOTS:7 couldn’t.

“Exhausted” is correct to describe how you feel after this album— not just because you locked in, but this album itself is emotionally and mentally stimulating. The depth is crazy, it’s like you are taken on this journey through their, well, souls. (In case you werent aware, this album is anchored on Carl Jung’s theories). So, yes, it exhausts you. I love how you do your own analysis at the end of every song, but I really like how Seb started looking up the meaning on his phone to share the "official" interpretation with you. BTS songs have so many layers of meaning and are open to interpretation (as you’ve mentioned several times), yet you usually manage to align with the "official" meaning. Yes, sometimes it can be tricky - like with the "ON" music video. I hope you keep up this new tradition.

This album is amazing!!! I love how these lyrics really show how Jungkook harmonizing with everyone all the time. I feel like sometimes with other reactors he gets overlooked because they either don’t know how much he truly contributes to each track by laying down foundation vocals, harmonies, and all the amazing adlibs… or they just assume he is gonna deliver it perfectly and don’t give him the credit he deserves and I’m glad y’all express your praise for him!! Don’t get me wrong, I love them all and think they all are extremely talented and deserve all the hype and praise for each member.. I just especially feel for JK who was so young and gave so much to this talented group by carrying the heaviness of being the main vocalist. This whole album is a masterpiece by all 7 of them!!!

Loved the reaction. One of their best works. I can proudly say I attended the concert the only time they sang We are bulletproof: The Eternals as the surprise song. It was so emotional. JK started crying, then the whole stadium was crying. An amazing memory to have. I would highly recommend to you to watch the 3 subunits explaining their song, it's very fun and entertaining to watch, not to serious. YES so excited for you guys to watch the Online concert for MOTS. Unfortunately this album came out in 2020 right when Covid hit and they had to cancel their world tour which was devastating. That was one of the best lyric reactions ever!!! I just loved how you all dissected the album, song by song, and it really felt like a whole map of the soul journey. I did not mind at all the two hours video, it flashed like nothing bcs it was so interesting to hear to the different takes and opinions on each music, and how each of you three grasp a new meaning from specific sentences. Loved seb with the little researches as well, that is something I think you should integrate more in your reaction videos. It's all right to stop and look up for what a lyric or Mv may symbolise when you don't get it, that's what we all do and is honestly funny as fuck to watch you guys figure out the geniality of the boys lol Lastly, hope you guys keep this format, it was amazing and very entertaining. Like we don't mind long videos and long discussions as long as it is focused on the theme of the video. Again, amazing reaction guys!!!

And just to add to that, Persona as a Jungian concept is the part of "yourself" that is about how you present yourself to the world, how people perceive you and how you would like to be perceived. which is why Namjoon in his song is debating over his "name", "who the hell am I", "who is the real me, since there are so many "MEs" that people see". And Ego is the part of "yerself" that "you" think you are. It is the identity that we would define ourselves. That is why Hobis song is a celebration of "him", celebration of everything that makes him him. So it is the trio of Ego (this is who I am), Persona (this is who people think I am), Shadow (this the me that I dont want to see, or accept, my dark side) that make up the "Map of your soul", the WHOLE you. and this album is basically like a dissertation upon this theme. Whether them as individuals (their solo songs), them as a group, the dark sides of their job, the glorious sides of their job and their own perseverance and how they decide to deal with all of those things.

I can see why so many ARMY were heartbroken they weren't able to see BTS, after this release. Wow!!! And I also understand why the members were disappointed they couldn't go on their tour, especially after seeing how much blood, sweat and tears go into each performance. I can't say this enough. BTS is built for this. They are incredibly blessed and then they choose to share their talents with us. To add a bit of context, Map of the Soul: 7 was released during their 7th year as a group 💜 celebrating & reflecting on those years, the beauty and the hardships & how far they've come. On the side of that, so many kpop idol groups do not make it past year 7, as that's when contracts are complete & military service in the near future for boy groups. The 7 celebrates a lot because they made it, past 7 years and have 7 members in the group after all those years 💜

@ 1:14:26 no it’s not Jimin it’s Adora, she is a vocalist/producer who did a lot of the background vocals for BTS songs ever since the Wings album! Guys! Maybe you can also react to the Video on demand of the “BTS Map of the Soul ON:E Concert” . I think you can purchase it through the Weverse app. We can all say that we were robbed off the “Map of the Soul:7” concert tour. At the time, it was promoted as the largest BTS concert to date. They were scheduled to launch their concert in April , just a month after Covid hit on March and everything was cancelled and shut down . Like a lot of people , The boys were devastated and some members admitted to have struggled with depression, anxiety and sense of loss.

But when I listen to the lyrics, I always think of that moment in Bon Voyage, when JK saw people his age hugging at the airport and quietly said, “I want to be able to hug my friends like that.” It breaks my heart a little. ben yessss, i could feel during the filter reaction that you were gauging the vibes, thats exactly how i interpreted it. i think filter is meant to be interpreted as the basic sex/relationship song for mainstream audiences, but on the other hand, jimin was purposely addressing specific audiences that demand so much from bts; from the way they look, to their hair colours, to their outfits, to what kind of music they put out. jimin has always been quite outspoken about how toxic some fans can be, which is present in almost every audience, of any kind of art, but that doesnt make it less harmful for the artists. filters lyrics are so drect, i think its MEANT to be gritty and uncomfortable. i see why jimin picked the whole 'filter' concept too, as he's the member whos probably changed his outward appearance the most since debut i guess? hes spoken about how he felt quite troubled upholding the overly masculine, macho image of himself in the beginning of their career, and i think since around 2015 and after, hes been redefining his masculinity almost, not limiting himself to toxic standards, wearing what he wants, working out his body the way he wants. its really emotional

I think people sometimes take “Filter” as simply a sexy or romantic song, and honestly, I can see why. Jimin definitely made it flirty and sensual. 😂 But to me, there’s more to it than that. Jimin himself explained that the idea of a “filter” is about the different ways we choose to see someone, and the different sides of himself he can show to the world. So he’s basically saying, Which version of me do you want? I can be whatever you want me to be. And that’s what makes the song so clever. It’s playful, teasing and definitely seductive, but underneath it is also about Jimin as a performer — all the different sides of him that he can show us. Basically… Jimin knew exactly what he was doing with this song.

Map of the Soul: 7 is basically BTS looking back at their journey—the good, the bad, the fears, the struggles, the success, and the parts of themselves they once tried to hide. The “7” represents the seven members and their seven years together, while the album is about accepting all sides of themselves, including their shadows and scars. It’s really BTS saying, “This is who we are, this is everything we’ve been through, and we accept all of it as part of our story.”

Loved your reaction to Filter, because I think the meaning (and the fact that that song embodies the concept of persona) is often overlooked bc it sounds so alluring and the performance is so captivating--all by design obvi. I think Ben described it best: Filter leans heavily into the concept of the persona and is a song about the idol imploring their audience to pick whichever "them" they want. The idol will happily put on whatever persona, whatever mask, will make their audience the happiest. All in an attempt to gain meaning from the audience, they have no other purpose but to please their audience, and they'll do anything to do so Really, all the solo tracks tie into the Persona-Shadow-Ego concept by Carl Jung so perfectly Persona - Persona Filter - Persona Moon - Persona Shadow - Shadow Inner Child - Ego My Time - Ego Ego - Ego There is a MOTS explained by a korean vid that you guys can check out if the way Carl Jung inspired this album (the same way "Demian" inspired WINGS) still confuses you guys

On WAB: the eternal, Charlie is partially correct about the "cast your stone at us" line being a play on the biblical line "he who is without sin, cast the first stone" In WAB: the eternal, the "cast your stone at us, we have no fear anymore" line (sung by Jimin) is actually a reference to WAB pt.2, one of their debut songs, where Jimin sings "whoever has worked as hard as us, cast the first stone. we go hard, we have no fear," which WAS a play on the biblical line "he who is without sin, cast the first stone" Charlie is also right that the line is meant to address the hate and ridicule they received. In WAB pt.2 BTS was already ridiculed for several reasons (hating RM and Yoongi for becoming idols as well as ppl literally making fun of their name (bangtan sonyeondan aka bulletproof boyscouts), hence RM's line "the name you once made fun of is now set in steel, Bulletproof")

The sample at the beginning of EGO is also used at the beginning of their debut song 'No More Dream' (which was referenced at the end of the ON MV) - so is RM saying 'Big Hit Exclusive'. And 'Jung' refers to Carl Jung and Jungian psychology, which is about exploring the human soul and how multi-faceted/layers our 'souls' are (I'm over simplifying here massively). It's where the concept 'Map of the Soul' comes from and RM's Persona reflects it really well as does Yoongi's 'Shadow'.
