Pandemics suck

Fewer over less is just a preference. Less has always been the more common form with countable nouns and is also the older form. Using fewer instead seems to have come from a marginal note on personal preference by an 18th-century grammarian, which then managed to sneak its way into the school system as an iron-clad rule. Despite this, there are no dialects of English in which fewer has gained traction as the prevailing style, even though it is taught as the correct one. TLDR; Fewer is not more correct than less for countable nouns and never has been. It may be one day, but not yet!

I was always taught that fewer is for countable quantities. If I have fewer gallons of water, then I have less water. Nobody says I have fewer water. Fewer implies that a thing is countable. Less implies that a thing is not countable.

The Younglings Had It Coming

As someone who works in Dallas, can confirm that the streets are horrifying and no one knows how to drive. I'm never sure if the terrible intersections, missing signs, potholes, or faded-to-the-point-of-invisability lane lines are worse.

Thank-you. I had to take a break to calm down after Heath said "less earthquakes" three times! Heh, heh. And yes, I know that language changes. I know that rules of grammar aren't important or even especially real. None of that matters to me. What matters is that hearing "less earthquakes" makes my skin crawl. It's like chalk screeching on a blackboard. I'm so disappointed that Noah didn't jump in there. :)
