Let's just assume his attack somehow creates a cushion below him that spreads his deceleration over a larger distance (and thus a longer period of time), meaning the force required is much lower than the force the ground would impart with nearly instantaneous deceleration. If the ground has, say, one centimeter of give while his sword move begins his deceleration one meter off the ground, that's a force reduction factor of 100.
