The best Christmas Album almost didn't happen - and even when it did, the creators of the special worried that they "ruined Charlie Brown". A Charlie Brown Christmas has been a staple for nearly 60 years, and today I'm going to break down exactly why - with a few surprises along the way.

NOTE: This is the Patreon Edit which is slightly longer and does not have a sponsor. Keep an eye our for a making of video coming next week!

I've never seen this before. Can't wait to watch it during the festive season. I usually watch your videos for the first time while I'm doing other bits and pieces so I'm listening to them more than watching. I glanced you as you guys were playing and I thought oh Brandon plays jazz drums too how amazing then i realised it wasn't you. Such a great twist not only to have your bro playing drums but that he's the guy on the drums for the new stuff. Great video. Still can't believe I've never seen this 😂

we sang christmastide is here in choir i always thought that version came first

prod_tfm

the shaw brothers sounds like the craziest rhythm section lol

What a great video. I love that album, and didn't know the story. And then having a live trio playing it and breaking it down? Can't get better. Thanks!

Gerard Blair

Great video. Just one question. Which one is the evil twin?

Sandy Rivers

The instrumental recording of Christmas Time Is Here is my second favorite Christmas song ever. First is the version of Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas sung by John Denver and Rolph The Dog on A Christmas Together with The Muppets. Guess I have a thing for melancholidays 😁 Great video!

DiggingTheGreats

It’s gonna get even better - behind the scenes video coming to Patreon on Monday with full play throughs of the songs 🔥

Kris Blindert

Will you be recreating the album exactly (e.g. transcribed solos), or will there be some of your own spin on it as a trio?

Justin Lyons

At first iI literally thought you were playing drums and upright bass and doing some movie magic 🤣

Urban Implosion

Thanks for that great trip to Nostalgia Land.

Robert Young

You really outdid yourself with this one!

Very cool, Brandon! I really appreciate how you are evolving, enlivening and bringing varied formats to your weekly vids - The CharlieOverLay on your background was so clever!; it was great to be seeing you guys play in the studio! Plus, great story! I kind of rolled my eyes when I saw the title, ignored the Patreon drop... ... and ended up watching this on YouTube while surfing on TV, lol. So pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this. I'll never roll my eyes again (well, on post '93 HH stuff I still may, lol) It was interesting to see your advertising, too. (I'll actually look at that foodMeal company's meals for delivery) ps. I rolled through your shorts playlists on YT, and was surprised to see so much stuff, that I had never seen before. You have put so much quality into this channel in the last few years and it really shows. KUDOS.

I had to squint for a second to make sure you didn’t splice yourself into the video playing drums and bass simultaneously 😂 Makes sense that was your brother!

John Rodriguez

Christmas Time - Ray Charles version always gets to me.

Andrew Sanchez

Yo im ngl, after this episode, i was playing this music on repeat at work this morning. I have a whole new appreciation for this christmas special. It's so cool that you got your brother in this ep too! Great job BShaw!

Joey

The reveal of the drummer being on the Peanuts show but also your brother was great ahahaha

Shoom

I didn’t even know they make new ones! Have to check them out! This has been my go-to Christmas album for years, but I really only understood what makes it special and what I love so much about it, when I first heard Woody Goss‘ rendition of Vulfpeck songs in the style of Vince Guaraldi. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mMjoI6FTlxo Thank you so much for these videos!

I've probably seen all of the documentaries for the Peanuts' specials, but this one is really nice, especially with the live music! Great job as always BShaw! ❤️
