Hey all! Here's the latest Patreon exclusive video from KC Nwosu, taking a look at the intersection of rap and video games. This one has a ton of actual songs in it (YouTube was not thrilled about) so that's why we're uploading it straight to Patreon.

Enjoy, and as always, thanks for the support!

I love being part of the funding for passion videos like this

GayMountainBear

Also, I want to get KC on an episode of Ify Nwadiwe's "Um, Actually"

Snakeinthegarden

Can we nominate this video for something. Are Webby awards still a thing?

Mithras K

Oh holy shit that was good, your passion absolutely comes through, and it's the meeting of mediums that were meant to be together.

ArthurCrane

KC continues to have wonderful diction and cadence in these scripted videos. I have to admit that it wasn't until he got to GloRilla that I realized he was not lip syncing the music, that was all him.

jahr

Alright, who else knew KC is out here spittin? Props KC...i see you

jahr

For someone that said he doesn't like the dirty south, i think he may have covered her track the best

Andrew K

I would love a "gamer" Um, Actually episode or three.

lilypadlame-o

did not expect KC to be spitting in this video, both argument-wise and lyrically!! well done!!!!!

Dread Pirate Mittens

Today I learned that rappers really like rapping about "ninjas".

KC puts on some shades, magic happens.

Great video KC! It took me far till the female artist to notice that you were the one rapping. I was thinking "wow these famous musical artists are recording at home these days?! Wait a minute..." On the topic, I wouldn't think about this sort of thing, because I don't listen to rap, but it is pretty clear that video games are an easy touch stone in popular culture now a days. I think the very idea of fighting through adversity, seen in throughout most games, is a clear parallel that end up in rap lyrics talking about their life and struggles. I am curious about two potential stand outs in rapXvideogame line of thinking, what would be the song that is over saturated with video game references and what song would have the most obscure or poignant reference? Can we find the stand out example for this trend, one that can be pointed at as the best of its class?

My GOAT rap album, Jedi Mind Tricks' "Violent by Design (2000), is chock full of video game references. "We slap tracks and attack like M. Bison!" and "A pitchfork through your bitch heart, it's Castlevania!" are *Chef's Kiss*.

Thank you KC for also sharing your future audition tape! This was great! I think Clipse is going to win, it has the most industry love, and I think in general gaming references have ballooned far beyond rap to all popular music (see Sabrina Carpenter saying "Switch it up like Nintendo" on Espresso). I do think rap has the deepest legacy of gaming/nerd properties love, especially with comics (e.g. MF DOOM, Czarface/Inspectah Deck), and with alt groups like N.E.R.D (i.e. Pharrell) and Das Racist. Also even though he's complete trash, I do like that Drake sample Haunted Chase level theme from DKC2 on "6 God"

Dan McAlister

Incredible!!! Great performances and analysis, so well done!

Is this you soft launching a music career? I'd buy your album!

On that note, this year Mega Ran became the first Nerdcore artist to be nominated to a Grammy. It all comes together.

lilypadlame-o

okay wait this being released the same week pusha t himself was outed in the Epstein files is actually insane 😭 he better NOT win this Grammy 😬

While rap isn't a typically a genre that resonates with me (with some exceptions), I cannot deny that it speaks to a large part of the population and represents them and their feelings. Being a "genre of the people," it makes sense to me that so many rappers would include video games in their lyrics, especially considering that the rap genre and video game culture grew up concurrently.

Enter the Wu Tang (36 Chambers) is an all timer album and the title alone kind of gives that one away, being so blatantly referential 😂 give it a listen!

Pēteris Krišjānis

Took me some time to realize you are making covers for these KC 😀 nice one!

Th3P4tM4n

KC, you really committed to this really hard and I love it XD you made me miss Rap Beef XD great vid.

Simon Munns

"But hey, that's just a theory a music game theory?!" Thanks for that. I appreciate the crossing of cultures and broadering my horizons on art.

Shane Z

That's the most rap I've ever listened to. Didn't hate it.

Luis Perez
