my step-dad has never once managed to avoid punching a wall while playing VR and i somehow always end up facing the opposite direction from where i started

I got the PS 5 VR headset and was psyched to play Resident Evil Village, but I got motion sick so easily. I agree that the technology has really interesting opportunities, but I'm not sure how, ontop of price, they can can overcome the basic discomfort a lot of folks (myself included) feel after 15-20 minutes of playing.

I agree that Walkabout Mini Golf is an all-time great game, it’s wonderful. I also agree that VR, sadly, likely won’t have much of a future for the same reasons you laid out.

From the outside looking in, VR looks like a large cash outlay for a bump in immersion. It doesn't really add much in the way of new gameplay; I have not yet seen a VR game which could not be played with a conventional display. It's a highly sophisticated gimmick. It doesn't help that gameplay footage is inevitably presented as conventional non-immersive video. It also faces the paradox shared by much new tech: it needs a larger market to attract developers to make the killer apps, and new users are not buying in due to the lack of killer apps. And so it's left in the limbo of a niche market. Unlike the first wave of VR in the late 90s, the actual tech is capable now, but I still can't see it taking off. It's had a decade to do so. Full dive VR might crack that barrier, but FDVR is at best decades away.

With a new VR headset it sounds like a great time to cover the developing space of VR ports! Cover some Titanfall 2 VR!!

I’m genuinely shocked that VR has lasted this long tbh. You could give me a headset for free but I can’t see myself using it; it just doesn’t fit into how I game either conceptually or physically.
