Fabio the GOAT in the thumbnail. I respect it.

“You’ll often have several months of free time”. Not quite. The usual amount of free time (when you’re given a big chunk) is around 100 turns. 4 turns in a day means the amount of free time is usually around a month.

As someone who has become interested in Fire Emblem from the Fortune's Weave coverage but isn't quite ready to switch to, uh, Switch 2, would people recommend I check out Engage or Three Houses first?

We know that wasn't Marty's real house. Not a pizzazz in sight

Three Houses, Fortune's Weave takes place in the same setting and has a similar design structure to 3H. Engage is fine, good if you're more mechanically minded (like me) but the writing is abysmal and the characters themselves are overdesigned to the game's detriment

I think your biggest issue is that you're treating the map as the objective rather than the means to an end. I only leave Dagsion if I have something specific in mind to do, like quests or power leveling in a dungeon. Otherwise, I'm in the city doing said chores and doing auto activities to pass time. And once you've completed one or two routes, there aren't nearly as many side quests to do in between main story fights, not to mention finishing the blessings for the gods being fairly easy. It also helps that I got into the habit of restarting chapters to farm support levels once I realized that most supports expire upon finishing Part One. Grabbing mounts for Cai and battalions for Theodora is all well and good but once you get the good ones, there isn't much point. There are a lot of combat arts to upgrade for Dietrich but the upgrades all felt lackluster and not really worth the effort most of the time. I didn't do a whole lot with the arena, I mostly used it for shoring up skills for units that otherwise were unable to level those skills, like heavy armor or cavalry for units that I wanted to change the classes of. There's not much reason to use arena sessions on units for weapons they're already using. Fortune's Weave is fantastic, it's gripped me more than most games have recently, but I do have two issues with the game: the lack of support conversations (most non-MC units have around five conversation levels) and unrecruited units have such bad stats late game they're unusable. In what world is it acceptable for a dodge tank to be bouncing off the armor of a generic Brigand enemy unit? It's crazy

Engage is a fan service game for the anniversary, so although the actual gameplay is pretty great, the characters and references will mostly fly over your head. As a big FE fan the plot was also abysmal even as fan service, so I can only assume it’s worse as an entry point. Three Houses is, in my opinion, the best game in the franchise with the possible exception of Awakening for the 3ds. It is pretty forgiving for beginners mechanically and the characters and story, whilst a little atypical for FE, are exceptional and leads nicely into FW, so you’ll get a lot more of the nods and backstory when it’s referenced.

Monday, you can fall apart. Tuesday, Wednesday, break my heart. Thursday doesn't even start, it's Friday I'm in love...
