this was great, i kind of knew your journey but i hadn't known how you discovered the k r&b scene and how you found other kpop groups after bts. It's really interesting how one song or a random clip can just make you nosedive into something new. I remember randomly coming across a boa song she released for the western market and loved it but hadn't thought anything of it until i fully got into kpop through shinee. I definitely agree about how kpop really opens your eyes to how music could be so different even with the glaring inspiration from black culture and the sheer content from just one group is insane!

Catching up now but Micah we kinda have a similar(ish) kpop journey! I also discovered kpop from BTS! I saw them perform at the VMAS/AMAS(?) for DNA but I didn’t really get it then, fast forward to ‘Dynamite’. I literally couldn’t escape the song it was everywhere so I told myself to just watch the MV to get it out of my head and well….here we are still today! Getting into BTS lead me into learning about TXT (who are my ults) and thanks to TXT promoting at the same time as WOODZ (I hate U era) I meet my other ult. Only 19 days till woodz freedom 🎉

I got into kpop when I was like 13 in 2012 I just randomly came across a dance practice video of sistar19 my boy and I was just so obsessed with that song and hyolyns voice I just started listening to girl groups more and more and I became intrigued. I loved the synchronization and polish production I was really into dance back then. After that I started getting into boy groups like teen top and got7 and exo oh lord exo really had me in a choke hold during the exodus album era. That was when I knew I was an SM Stan (2014) they just never missed. Red velvet hellloo, shinee, nct etc. Later I got into krnb through jay park ik ik lol but at the time he had some solid krnb artist like (hoody) and I loved dean and crush etc. I’m now 26 and I still feel like the best year in kpops hands down 2014-2018 solid years. 3rd gen has my heart ❤️ .
