I'm loving this format of going through your history with an artist while playing clips; I'm learning so much! My first comeback with NCT Dream was ISTJ and I went backwards feom there up to Hot Sauce at the time. Hello Future and Broken Melodies are both in my top 5 kpop songs, maybe top 20 of all music, for me. Dream are my top boy group and the only one I really stan, so I am very invested and was also disappointed with this recent comeback. I've listened to the album 3 or 4 times now and I don't even connect with any of the b-sides. Rush is passable to me but not outstanding. Chiller is actually my second favourite title track from them, but when you explained why it flopped that totally made sense. It also makes sense why I would still like the song because I am one of the few people who can flow with the chaos going on today in the world and it just makes me more excited, so when I hear a song that confuses me I love it haha! I do agree with where you think they should go going forwards, hopefully they can take notes from NMIXX's A&R who have managed to maintain their experimentation whilst incorporating humanist elements and somehow also getting mainstream appeal with the most recent comeback. It did occur to me when you were talking about groups falling off around 8 years if a factor there is that successful artists get to resign their contracts and will be getting a better split with the company which would motivate the company to give them third-rate songs and save their best songs for the freshly contracted groups. I especially see this with SM. Pretty depressing to think about but maybe the groups who will have long term success need to learn to self write/compose/produce. It will be interesting to see if Stray Kids and I-dle can buck that trend although they are both around 8 years and starting to feel a bit stale too, so maybe my theory doesn't hold up.

LOVE this comment and i love hearing it from stans!! That's a great point, essentially the company treats you as old news and doesn't want you to compete with new groups they make more money off of omg!

I could write essays about my annoyance with Dream’s discography post Glitch Mode album.
