I want to hear your thoughts on this but I am taking your advice and waiting. It is so raw right now and I don’t think he wanted to leave the group. So I will come back to this because I do value your thoughts

Koko3op

Gorgeous! Take all the time you need

I don’t be commenting on here ever, but I have to say everything you’ve said in this episode is literally what I’ve been saying when I saw the news. A lot of people be saying that he could have done solo work whilst been in the group, or that something shady is going. I’m like you lot are reading too much into the situation.

Koko3op

Like it really can be super straight forward!

as an engene and heeseung bias as well it’s been so hard, but I agree with u. I think so many fans are in denial so they’re not choosing to believe that heeseung might’ve actually made the decision to leave. In my opinion I don’t think he wanted to leave the group just like that, but I think belift gave him an ultimatum of either staying in the group but no solo work at all or leave the group and u get creative freedom on ur solo work. And then he made his decision, which i think we all have to respect. I love heeseung and im happy for him, bc im also a fan of him and his talent, i can tell he’s one of the few idols nowadays who is genuinely an artist. we just gotta support enhypen and heeseung from now on

(posted this on YouTube but I'll post it here as well cause i feel the need to talk about it lol) I agree with what you said but OMG so many thoughts on this!! I will premise by saying I am someone who loves and stans enhypen but at the same time for a while now bc of life and stuff I haven't been keeping up much with kpop content beside music and performing related schedules so I am in no position to judge Heeseung's attitude/behaviour ecc. towards the group or just in general outside of live performances. What I can say is the news surely came to me as a shock like I can't lie I was NOT expecting that, especially since as everyone pointed out the group has been clearly formed and created around him from the start. Idk I can't even fathom the idea of Enhypen without Heeseung that will take time for me to metabolise. It also seemed so unbelievable to me because of the way they went about it, because even though people departing from their group is no news, someone leaving before even contract expiration (and with no scandals/controversies) to go solo while still remaining in the same company is quite unusual (I would say unheard of bc I can't think of any other case like this but there's so much I don't know or don't remember so feel free to enlighten me if you have examples). With that being said I don't buy into the conspiracy theories and I do believe that this is the path that he has chosen for himself and that it is his wish to have more artistic freedom and individuality, something that clearly belift was not willing to give him while he was part of the group. At first I was one of the many saying you can have a solo career WHILE in the group but as you said enhypen's schedule was always crazy demanding and packed and belift never gave any hint at wanting them to pursue any individual project so it kinda makes sense. I can see them giving him an ultimatum where he had to choose between going solo or staying in the group, but I also can see him making this decision by himself seeing how hard it would have been to do both at the same time considering hybe definitely wasn't willing to relax the group schedule just to accommodate a solo debut. Anyways, even though as a fan is sad and painful to see him leave the group that I love, I don't blame him and I will continue to support him because after all it is HIS life and HIS career and we are not entitled to tell him what to do with it. I am unfortunately in the depths of kpop twitter and the discourse around his departure has been driving me a bit crazy I have to say, both from the company conspiracy theorist and people creating false narrative about him 😭 And to the people petitioning for his return to the group...I say this with no ill intentions whatsoever but...do we live in the same world? do you really think hybe would bring him back? Also, I know it's an emotional response and that the wound it's still raw but I think all this fuss is quite harmful to both enha (why would you boycott these poor guys?!?) and Heeseung himself, like imagine making such a hard decision and being greeted with this levels of denyal by your own fans! I don't know I just think there's so much that we don't know and we don't see and while I'm always the first to call out and full on hate on these damned companies, I believe we have to take a step back and realise these idols are just humans with wishes and ambitions of their own and things like this are totally normal at the end of the day. Anyways, I blabbered for WAAAY TO LONG so I'm gonna leave it at that. Love your insights as always, keep up the good work! xoxo

I enjoyed listening to this episode it actually made the news more digestible. I was honestly really distraught about the whole thing but this was a good reminder that this makes sense and this may be good for them.

lay!!

Enhypen is my ULT and while Heeseung wasn't my bias, it's still so painful to lose a member of the group you love. In my head, I cannot visualize a non-OT7 Enhypen. But I do feel like there's some nuance to this situation. It's pretty evident (as a fan) that these boys have been feeling intense burnout since 2023 when they released Dark Blood & began their Fate tours. They've been pretty vocal about this too. Still, I think this news comes as a shock because most fans thought they'd just finish their contract and NOT renew lol. Because it's pretty clear that for them, Enhypen has become TIRING. So heeseung deciding to leave this early AND the company letting him seems so weird. Especially considering how money hungry belift is. I do feel like he was given an ultimatum though. I think two things can be true at once: he wanted to continue being an Enhypen member but wanted to do a solo too. He's been talking about solo work since 2024, but I think because Belift has been prioritizing Enhypen group work, they kept shelving his solo. I'm sure he got restless and had a conversation hoping to establish a concrete date on his solo work. But the truth of the matter was, the company was never going to shelve group work just so he could promote and there was no way in hell he was going to be able to properly juggle group AND solo work without being extremely burnt out. Kind of like Yeonjun from TXT had mentioned. Thus, this really was the only way he could have the solo career he wanted. I do think him leaving and staying in the company is playing in our faces a bit LMAOO but I think it's because he legally can't leave. He signed a 7 year contract as an Enhypen member and I doubt he'd be able to contractually leave before then. So I'm assuming they transferred the year left from his contract as a group member to a soloist. I do think it's a shame because he's such an integral part of Enhypen. All of the members are. But it's very obvious the company is heavily restricting the creative freedom the members get with their solo work and how they can contribute to the group. I think the only villain here is the company. I would've preferred he take a hiatus to do solo work then comeback. At the end of the day, he's always going to be tied to the Enhypen name whether or not he wants to be. But it could've also been he just didn't want to be in the group anymore, which is fine as well. I think people are just having trouble really digesting the news because it wasn't what we expected and there were a million other possibilities where he could've stayed in the group & gone solo. Also the MONTHS of activities they had him booked for. Why would they have booked him for so much as an Enhypen member if they knew he was possibly going to leave. They should've put him on hiatus so the fans would at least be somewhat aware of the possibility of him leaving. Bc they're going crazy trying to get him back and I can't imagine how much that must be hurting him & the boys. But also maybe that's asking for too much 🤷🏻‍♀️ I'm still gonna be incredibly sad over this and mourn the loss of OT7 but I do wish him well in his endeavors and will continue to support the remaining six 💔

You took the thoughts right out of my head. I was DEVASTATED yesterday when I heard the news, but once I calmed myself down, I really had myself look at the logical and realistic side of things and listening to your podcast absolutely helped me(as your podcast usually does)see things more clearly. I cherish your thinking so much as it honestly helps ME think more 🫶🏽

BZ

I just finished listening to the podcast and you made me feel so much better. I agree with so much of what you said but, we will never know if he truly wanted to leave the group or not. I agree with some of the posts that you read which stated that Belift would not give the members the time to pursue solo stuff and just pushed the group activities. It would be too exhausting to do both. Belift is all about the money, so they would not try an accommodate the members' solo activities if it meant leaving money on the table, even if it was at the expense of members' mental health. I also agree that their last comebacks have been too trendy and contrary to what you hope for with a new regrouped Enhypen, I think that they will stay on that course. I will still enjoy their music but it will not be like their earlier stuff, where they really get into the dark, almost mystical side of their lore. Heeseung being the main character and the only love interest of the female in their lore/webtoon, and no longer there will also be interesting. I am worried that without Heeseung's ear, since he does a lot of behind the scenes work for Enhypen, their music will get more trendy and less interesting or sophisticated (although that isn't the right word). Last, I dont think the protests were against Enyphen or Heeseung but against Belift and the suddenness to us of the news. It may be old news to them but to us it wasn't. Not only the merch issue but they just had to cancel Heeseung's flight to Australia. I think that is why people are suspicious as much as anything. Regardless, Heeseung was and still is my ult bias, so I can't wait to see and hear his solo work. Sorry for the long post.

Koko3op

Aww thank you! I was so overwhelmed before starting cos I didnt know how i was gonna arrange my thoughts but somehow I found them!

Koko3op

Aww I'm so glad it helped you feel better. This comment was not long at all! But yes i hadn't considered the music becoming even more trendy OMG loool. And though that may have been the intention, the fact Heeseung released a handwritten statement that was essentially ignored then the protest becomes about him also unfortunately. It'll be telling to see how things progress.

I wish all K-pop fans were as mature, honest, and open-minded as you, lol. You’re never biased. If we truly care about the artist—like Heeseung in this case—why would we be selfish and imprison the artist within the group? Change is normal, and sometimes change is necessary for growth. And that’s totally okay. The K-pop industry needs more people like you, Micah, because some fans only care about what they consume from the group without genuinely caring about what the artist truly wants. What if he’s just not happy anymore and this is something he wants? Again, that’s totally okay. It’s not the end of the world, lol. We can support the other Enhypen members and Heeseung moving forward. And yes—here’s to more new music and performances from Heeseung. Let’s go shine, baby!! Like Jennie from Blackpink—she’s truly a great artist, and we might never have seen that side of her if she always stayed only within Blackpink.

Koko3op

Thank you!! And yeahh it's not easy to accept change and I do get there's a lot of confusion cos of how abrupt it is though but you just have to try take things at face value!

zayn

This is so well written! I completely agree with your takes and personally, I believe the same. I'm sure if there wasn't intense burnout, constant overworking of the group, that he'd choose staying as a member AND pursuing a solo career any day. It's more money (business wise) and is usually granted more success, since the brand 'ENHYPEN' would still be attached to that solo. I feel heartbroken too but I am so excited for this new chapter of Heeseung's and I hope the solo delivers. Actually, I don't hope, I KNOW it will deliver!

Keenan Crone

I'm VERY curious if Heeseung signed a solo contract that extends beyond his previous group contract. B-lift could have deemed it a good business decision to keep him under them instead of letting him go solo with a different company after his contract ended. To me that is the only thing that makes sense from the company's perspective.

Koko3op

I'd imagine it's a 3 or even 5 year contract including after his return from the military
