In this episode of Anatomy of a Song, I focus on the vocal detail and control behind some of Red Velvet’s most R&B-leaning tracks, including “Cool Hot Sweet Love,” “Perfect 10,” and more.

By stripping the production back, I listen closely to how the members handle tone, layering, harmonies and delivery — and where their vocals really shine. Red Velvet are often praised for their vocal ability, but how does that actually hold up when you isolate the performances?

Using my ranking system — civilian, athlete, Olympian, or world class — I break down what makes their vocal approach so distinctive and where different moments land on that scale.

I’m constantly reminded why they are my ult group. With the music stripped back I could hear so much more, their stacking is just so good. And man I always thought I could pick out Seulgi’s voice because that’s my bias, but no her vocals are just so much more forward in the choruses, ESPECIALLY the R&B tracks…ugh, I just love them Also idk if you specifically stated but what’s your ranking for Cool Hot Sweet Love 👀

If you do another 5, DO BUBBLE! You might not like it as much as I do, but that acappella is captivating.

What makes it even worse is I went back and listened again before making the comment because I’m like “he’s going to cook me if I ask and he already said it” lol…my apologies 💛
