YAAAY we did it Joe.

That line up is pretty fucking solid tbh, I'm not surprised at ALL.

I'm obviously going to have to listen to their music now to hear more vocals but i'm not holding my breath ighdfiuah.

I just need to hear Sejeong and Yeonjung sing more. This may mean WJSN are going to make a fucking comeback into my life, I feel SICK! But I need more vocals lol .

I have to think Soyeon had to be at least part of the reason why her team did well comparatively in ep 9! Maybe that's just my love for Soyeon talking lol.

I'm so glad you watched this show!!!! This first season is so iconic and really started this kind of survival show for sure. The thing you said about big company trainees not participating is so true and even Somi I would consider an exception (I think she joined PD101 bc of the SIXTEEN hype and all the exposure that brought her). Usually there's a lot of ex-trainees from larger companies in these shows, like fromis_9 Jiwon and Seoyeon (ex-JYP and ex-YG) in Idol School, there's some ex-YG girls and Lee Chaeyeon (Chaeryoung's sister) in PD48 and notably Chaehyun from Kep1er trained like ~5 years in SM before GP999. I think in general this type of show is a lot more worth it for small/medium labels and the post-group success from most of the people in these survival/temporary groups show that. Besides all that, this line-up really has it all, vocals, dance, visual and charisma!!! I.O.I has some fun songs but the post-group is more interesting for sure, with the soloists and also Weki Meki, Pristin, DIA, Gugudan and WJSN. I hope you check out their 10th anniversary comeback in may (fingers crossed it's gonna be great)!

I got into kpop in 2016 and I.O.I was my first ult girl group. I almost yelled at my screen saying you should've watch the Debut Showcase version of Crush (Blah Blah Blah). You got to see who was really singing each part, because the MV had people singing in the video who weren't the singers of certain parts. I go back to that performance on a regular basis. You said you never got the hype around Yoojung, but I never got the hype around Somi lol. She got and stayed on my nerves until I.O.I's comeback with 'Whatta Man'. Around the time this aired, Yoojung fit the criteria for loveable idol in Korea. She was unassuming at first, but an all rounder when she performs. If I'm not mistaken, I think she got dubbed the Nation's Little Sister for a while. Nevertheless, this group was great, can't wait to see what they comeback with in May

On another note, the short promotion time and the different companies wanting to capitalize off the success of the show during the group's run, kinda ruined the experience of the debut group somewhat (Mina and Sejeong debuting in Gugudan, Yeunjung joining WJSN and Chaeyon going back to DIA during the IOI's contract). I was in it for the long (8/10 months) run though, although Dream Girls (debut song) is to me what Pick Me was for you lol! I'm still kinda mad how Korea turned on Pinky though, sad that she won't be a part of the 10th anniversary comeback.

It was not even that serious, but it never has to be in Korea. From what I can recall from that time, some people started hating her for her voice (I like her voice so 🤷🏾‍♀️), then there were pics of her and some friends sitting together at a club. But there was a dispute between her and Pledis, alleged contract breach because she was active in China. Don’t really know the outcome of that though.

I was so happy for each girls career after IOI was done but I’m was pissed still pissed that Pristin ( the group that was made for Nayoung and Pinky btw) have the potentials but their careers died this group really have potential I mean they did but because of Pledis didn’t do shits for their girl groups, especially for Pristin like they win for rookie of the year during their debut rookie time for the MAMA award like they were about to be the next big group and then all of a sudden they just went on silent because of their youngest member was getting hate for her weight and then they were put on hiatus and just give us a sub unit after the first come back and then just disband them in 2019 but then I heard that Pledis it’s making a new girl group probably somewhat this year or maybe next year which I’m scared for them this new girl group is gonna get the same treatment like how they did to Pristin because Pristin was the last girl group that they did for that company other than After School I love After School but yeah and then they decide to focus on SVT so yeah I hate Pledis for doing Pristin so dirty 🤧

I hope you watch all 4 seasons, they are still the best survival shows imo. The talent and performances EAT and you can see how influcial the participants have become across Korean entertainment. Just a heads up that the series itself was scrapped bc MNET rigged tf out of the *national producer* ratings and final lineups on all seasons. The controversy properly blew up after the season 4 lineup debuted. They VERY quickly had to disband then MNET let the heat cool off for a few years before GP999. Kpop lore can be such a mess lmao.😅

What's insane is watching this back and seeing how some of the girls got so royally fucked by their companies after this. Yoojung and Doyeon with Weki Meki, Mina in Gugudan, Chungha with MNH (same company as one of the girls from GP999), and more. Like SO much talent in Korea gets wasted by poor management and girls not being given proper chances.

Omg when you said that fingertips reminded you of everybody in love my brain exploded fr sjfshghjksdg because how did I never notice this!! crazy aghh this was so fun!! haven't watched pd101 s1 is YEARS and omg what a flash in the pasttt, its crazy to look at what a complete lineup (in terms of vocals, dance and a decent rapper) we were given - to then they decided to completely shaft them later 😭 but I guess as the first project group from the pd series they truly were the testing grounds on options and timing was best for the girls. so excited (and scared sjklfkjlsaj) of seeing your wjsn and ioi reactions!! other groups formed after this were gugudan (sejeong and mina), weki meki (doyeon and yoojung), pristin (kyulkyung/jieqong/pinkie and nayoung, but also a bunch of other pd101 s1 girlies) and also technically dia (although they were a pre-existing group like wjsn but chaeyeon returned to dia after ioi). As you can assume, most of these groups disbanded for several reasons (poor promo, not strong concepts, imbalance of popularity between members), but I would say with the exception of wjsn (arguably), pristin from pledis was the most popular - and then pledis disbanded them. 'twas messyyyy can't wait to now go over to s2!! and its early af but also cant wait if you manage to get to pd48 (the show for iz*one) and what you think of their talents compared to pd101 s1! its been ages since I watched it and its gonna be so fun to see you experience it. thanks!! the episodes are long af but you made it!!!

BABYYYY this was a wild ride. Thank you for doing it omg 🥺 this final lineup was actually insane. Sooooo much talent. It wasn’t necessarily the exact 11 girls I had in mind at the time, but overall I was really happy. I’m excited and scared for you to react to their stuff 🤣 I have some fav performances of theirs in mind if you’re interested! But yeah, wow. What a journey. I agree about Juna, she could’ve done great. What a voice! Doyeon is so damn talented, I’m glad you saw it in this finale. The thing that secured her place in I.O.I imo you actually skipped because of time reasons, but her ending fairy for In The Same Place was iconic at the time: a beautiful cry 😅 her and Yoojung my Weki Meki babies!! Vocally they are stacked because wdym Yeonjung and Sejeong in one group, not to mention everyone else can really hold their own vocally, well except Mina, Chaeyeon and Sohye, but they bring other things to the group I guess. SO EXCITED FOR THEIR COMEBACK I HOPE IT DOESNT DISAPPOINT

PD48 will be my favorite Survival show. I was a diehard J-pop idol fan. So it was soooo fascinating to see K-pop and J-pop combined on one stage. Culturally very different as well. And many of my favorites were in the show. I can't wait till we watch it together again.
