AESPA ARE VOCALISTS!! WOW

In this episode, I dive into some of my favourite tracks from aespa's Lemonade album, including "Can't Help Myself," "My Plan," "WDA" and more, to explore what makes their vocals so distinctive.

While aespa are often praised for their strong technique, what stood out most to me was their individual vocal colour and personality. Each member brings a completely different tone to the music, making it easy to identify who's singing even when the harmonies become dense and layered.

Listening to the isolated vocals revealed just how much character exists within the group. From rich lower tones to bright, expressive upper registers, aespa's voices complement each other without ever losing their individuality.

Using my civilian, athlete, Olympian and world class ranking system, I break down the performances across the album and discuss why aespa's vocal blend, tone and personality might be among the strongest in 4th generation K-pop.

1:11 about this, if you are considering a pt 2 of AoAS, they have a couple songs and it's kinda few and far between where it showcases their musicality as singers. (dreams come true, forever, you, thirsty, melody, bahama, and i'll make you cry) also about the ending, fr i noticed it too with the mixing and i think that that ever since lee sooman left and took yoo youngjin with him to his new company (one of the key vocal director/engineers for aespa from debut to girls era who was a keystone in SM's history), the vocals for them have been mixed further into the back to favor production more than vocals cause it can seem overwhelming (back when winter had her piercing rock timbre and ningning was very similar to S.E.S' Bada, one of the main complaints despite their major success was that people couldn't get into them because they had bright, throat and diaphragm leaning, full body yet piercing styles of vocals, which was harsh on the ear because it was overwhelming to hear all of the vocal layers in the front/mid with such a sharp quality, along with the abrasive, hyperpop style of production. So as compensation, they gradually mixed vocals further into the back with spicy/drama era as the girls' voices still had the traditional SM male style of singing somewhat. however, ever since supernova era with a new vocal direction of getting rid of the bright/edgy/rock type of vocals in favor of stylistic elements like breathiness and nasal yet still diaphragmatic qualities, they have not adjusted the vocal mixing to show off how nice the newer vocal qualities sound in layers because it's the same team of engineers who worked with them during spicy era where they had the rock/old sm vocal nuances and knew how to adjust the mixing to fit the girls' voices to not be overly abrasive. i hope that makes sense/gives context lol
