NEW Anatomy of a Song episodes are UP!!

This week I took on ATEEZ and a second SM supergroup battle... and both episodes ended up surprising me.

🎙️ ATEEZ have WAY more vocal layering hidden throughout their catalogue than I expected. From Treasure all the way to Lemon Drop, there are so many little details buried in the mix... which made it even more surprising that Bad, their biggest hit, was the one song that felt vocally the simplest.

🎙️ Then it was SUPERM vs GOT the beat. Tiger Inside and Stamp On It have plenty of great vocal moments, but neither captured the energy or excitement of Jopping and Step Back for me. A really fun comparison.

I love Be with you so much you can not imagine! Once I even woke myself up singing it lol. I still don’t have a solid opinion on BAD but since it’s viral in Korea and boys get the recognition they deserve, I f with it. At least it’s a fun summer song! A bit off topic I’m pretty new here (love your reactions), have watched all the ATEEZ related reactions of yours, and sometimes you leave comments about low larynx singing of them and I don’t get you love it or hate it lool It may be language barrier cuz I don’t fully understand English, so could you please clarify it here for me?

You're late, i did a community post about it already

Loool i don't particularly love it but when it's done lightly, it works. It basically sounds like a singer is singing whilst yawning!

I got your point, thanks. Yunho and Seonghwa do that a lot, and San time to time, but I love their clear voice much more🥲

thank you Micah! i really enjoyed this episode. i have never heard Ateez's vocals highlighted acapella like that before and it was so great hearing your insights about their vocal layering i am especially glad they are starting to utilize Wooyoung's vocals more lately but it’s probably because he’s gotten more confident and improved his technique, and i love his tone of voice quite a lot. my fav vocal tone in the group is still Yunho though, and as i think i mentioned before regarding his Lee Mujin Service episode, i really hope he will get a chance to use more of that open belting style of singing in their tracks, i’m not a vocalist so i do not know if im using the exact term, but more like the way he’s singing in his k drama OST and his japanese birthday song cover. his voice shines even brighter in those. although i really like how he uses his breathy tone as well, don’t get me wrong. ok i digress… your review actually made me realize something. i never really thought about it before but the lack of vocals in almost all of the Golden Hour era title tracks is exactly what makes them my least favorite, also the fact that the choruses feel very repetitive- in Work, IOMT and now Bad. it is not that i dislike them, no- just like you said, i can definitely vibe with them when they pop up in my feed, and ateez are such incredible performers that i always love watching the stages, but none of those title tracks made it onto my personal playlist. same with IYF and Adrenaline, i found myself skipping them after a while because of the repetition even though i liked them at first. but Lemon Drop, oh i love that song dearly. it is rather simple, but i love the melodies, the production and the vocals, such a good vibe too. luckily not just Lemon drop, there are always 1 or 2 b-sides from each part of Golden hour series that i really enjoy and still keep on replay. and knowing that Hongjoong mentioned this series is a mix of what different members like in terms of genres helps me understand more what they are doing,it makes sense that they want to play with different styles, including Latin music or ballads (even though are not my cup of tea), while pushing 30s soon and chasing this major success before enlistment. even though this era cannot be compared to Fever and esp The World, especially Movement and Outlaw where the production was so cohesive, creative and refreshing, i still find things to enjoy along this journey and that is why i still get excited for every new comeback cuz i know i might always find at least one hidden gem to add to my playlist thanks again for the amazing episode! always interesting to hear your perspective (long-ass comment, i know, but i just love talking about Ateez loool)

Pleasee make paragraphs lol it's so hard to read this!

Asya
