What the fuck was that.

I didn't know an SM group could put out suck terrible music actually. I'm more harsh because they are SO Much better than this. This Travis Scott Rage music that I'd expect from Cortis with the chanting and boisterous energy with the same video energy? No thanks.

This year has just been atrocious. 3rd gen artists are going out sad and maybe that's why it vexes me more cos it feels like they're ruining their amazing artistry by wanting to stay trendy. SM is better than this and also people say DemJointz was promoting this album before but since May he stopped? So did they scrap the album and opt for a trendy vibe? Who knows

This reminds me of Usher in his EDM era LOOOL. True artists like Mariah Carey managed to stay relevant without selling out and that's what this feels like.

I MAY come to appreciate the other slower songs but without Doyoung it's just not the same. They already lost a lot losing Jaeil but to not have Doyoung either? Or Jungwoo? It just doesn't work.

Maybe next year will be better but I'm not holding my breath because kpop acts don't mature in a way that does them justice.

Enjoy I guess lol

I commented on your yt post, and although we have different opinions on some things, I do appreciate the criticism and agree with you on some aspects. i don't understand why people get so upset about actual constructive criticism. We knew that doyoung and jungwoo not being on the album was going to change some things, but even tho it definitely reads neo to me, it lacks some of the identity of 127. Like I said before, I liked the album, but is far from being my favorite and also the bsides being filled with so much chants and rap gets tiring. I don't understand what happened with dem jointz, he was promoting hard months ago, I can't believe he isn't on the album?!?! Like what's going on!!? Also I don't know if I was the only one expecting more from hae, yuta and jae? Like haechan got very few stand out moments?!?! Don't get me wrong, he sounds lovely, and I like his harmonies but still... also I know yuta said it was hard to take over doyoung and jungwoo's parts, so it got me thinking: did they scrap out stuff bc yuta wasn't feeling confident and hae is still struggling with his voice and jae just came back or what? Like, was it only a sm issue or did they decided to go in a different direction bc vocal line was working too much?!?! After all they do have to perform this stuff! We thought they were going on tour, but they are keeping it Asia only. So, either this is sm bulls- hit or the group is just struggling and overworking to compensate for the missing members?!?! Idk man, after going over it again, I'm starting to worry 🥲

Koko3op

Arghhh soo many qiestions we won't even get answers to!! It may have been a vocal line issue perhaps.

Rant: When I think about NCT 127 I get irritated. Taeil really fucked this up for me. There’s only 2 people who voices I like now Jaehyun and Haechan. I know people are gonna say what about Doyoung, yes he can sing but I don’t care he’s not moving me in any way shape or form. (I’m getting mad typing this lol). 127 is a group where I didn’t have a bias I just liked the group and the music. And now the group ain’t the group and the music ain’t the music. Jesus Christ. chupz(in West Indian) . lol.

Omgg same on literally everything lmao. I literally cannot listen to any song he's in even some of my faves💔.

Apparently they already had the whole album ready, with Doyoung and Jungwoo both on it, but after Mark suddenly decided to leave in February, they scrapped everything and started over. There’s a song with both Doyoung and Jungwoo on it, which is probably one of the original tracks. Demjointz probably had a song for 127 and it likely got scrapped with the original album.

meeperweeper

Me too! Musically, losing Taeil was a huge loss for the group. He was very talented and had a very strong voice that was part of the identity of their songs. Doyoung not being there definitely made things a lot worse ngl.

T’araaaaaaa

Couldn’t even finish the album. It’s terrible. The Walk Album may end up being their best overall. And to think they had Charlize Theron and Matt Damon doing the Blingy challenge. Kill me.

Koko3op

IUYGFTDRHGESRTD I saw that challenge

starrrgirl

yeah i think the track selection was just bad tbh still love them tho because i know what they’re capable off on a good day 😭😭😭 Also haechan’s lee mujin service FINALY dropped today i hope you check it out !!!!

starrrgirl

ahh let’s goooo !! i think he did great knowing he had a vocal kyst removed earlier this year

Sorry for the essay, but I was genuinely so underwhelmed by this album. This album did not play to their strengths, or at least it leaned too heavily into ONE of their strengths and ignored everything else that makes this group and their music special. There are too many songs focused on rap and group chants, especially considering this is a shorter album than they usually offer. Then all of them being right next to each other in the track order is not helping. Either the members were scared to do what they usually do without Mark, Doyoung, and Jungwoo, or the company was. Taeyong and Johnny anchored the rap sections well enough to the point that I didn't feel Mark's absence was that noticeable (Johnny especially stepped up because his rapping used to sound like a parody of a ' 90s Hip-Hop artist), but we didn't need an entire album centered on tracks like that. And this is coming from someone who enjoys some of NCT's more boisterous tracks, but the 2Baddies/Ay-Yo and Sticker/Favorite albums just did this sound better. The production on those albums was far more ambitious than what is here. The fact that Skyscraper from the Ay-Yo repackage came on in my shuffle after the album ended was a slap in the face, because Dem Jointz worked on that song, so it was rubbing salt in the wound to know that whatever he produced for them was scrapped for something worse. The moments where they were singing were very good. Yuta finally gets some shine (Am I crazy, or is his tone actually similar to Taeil's at times?) Thank goodness Jaehyun was allowed to split his time between singing and rapping, and that they didn't make him go full-time rapper, which I was worried about. Haechan was Haechaning, but he was held back by the direction for this album. They could have kept Pinata, Step Up, and IKR. IKR had potential and some interesting elements, but then it just stopped building and got monotonous (like why tease that little guitar riff and then not do more with it). Releasing this album after the masterpiece that is Walk— I'm sick. The MV actually reminded me of the Regular MV, but I definitely see what you mean with the 5th gen video style influence (the actual MV direction, the shot compositions). This is one of my gripes with the K-pop industry. When something gets trendy, they run it into the ground and wear out whatever novelty was there when the trend was introduced. (We can retire the scuba dance now, choreographers!) This album makes me wonder if SM has fully implemented that AI song sourcing system that they were working on, because the overall song quality from them feels lacking. For example, I can see why some songs are featured (suits the group identity), but they aren't as polished as I would like them to be. This is also why I think it's important for groups to have at least one member who solidly understands what makes the group special and fights for it. I'll give them grace because I'm hearing rumors that the original project was scrapped, but I doubt I'll be returning to this album anytime soon. Not to mention wasting this styling on this lackluster album 😫

Koko3op

OMGG the AI sourcing system is a good point actually!! But yess I agree on the stand out

LUKI

the way this album was shit from a butt like my year is ruined i was so hyped.

Leelee

Everytime i look at Johnny, he just gives dad vibes. I do wish he would get vocal lessons tho. I actually dont mind the tt, but it wont be added my playlist tho💀

Koko3op

Thank you AS ALWAYS for your honest thoughts!! I love discussing music, the good and the bad, and always love to hear your perspective on new releases... I'm actually obsessed with Blingy's energy and goofy MV lol they're selling it so much with their performance. I also really like Legacy, but... that's about it, unfortunately😭 the rest of the album is a snooze fest OMG. How did we go from having Time Lapse, Rain Drop, Can't Help Myself, Gold Dust, Misty, DJ, Love On The Floor, Focus FFS just to name a few... to this? What are we trying to accomplish? How does this add anything to their catalogue...? They all sound like filler songs and that's NOT what I'd ever expect from an NCT album. It makes no sense to me. It's the first time I'm hearing about the DemJointz issue mentioned now in the comments, and thinking of a whole album scrapped because of all the member changes probably makes the most sense. Still, I know for a fact there are SO many good songs out there that would have been miles better than whatever this uninspired album is lol. I hope SM gets it together soon and brings their originality to the table once again instead of selling out like this. I'm quite sad eugh :(

Koko3op

It's SUCH a shame!! I appreciate this commentt

eribeari

Kind of late to this but I completely understand where you're saying coming from someone who did enjoy the album (albeit nowhere near their best). I will say I think people were very worried about hearing NCT 127 without Mark but dare I say the real issue would always be missing Doyoung and Jungwoo. Doyoung's presence on songs is just irreplaceable and it shows when a song is lacking it. Plus NCT always excels when there is a strong vocal LINE to back up the rapping that we get. I think fans are so used to multiple members going off vocally and we didn't get much from it. I have a suspicion that the company is worried about fans leaving the group or the general public dropping them since we had such a huge member leave so they played it safe and went with something trendy. Initially I wasn't the biggest fan of blingy but their performances are kinda making me eat my words at the same time because at the end of the day I missed 127 as performers in general. Either way I know they have better in them and I'm holding out hoping on knowing that once DoWoo are finished with their enlistment we would get that specific 127 that released their past two albums because I know they're still in there. I hope you haven't given up on them altogether haha!

Koko3op

Yeahh the lack of those vocalists is a shame!
