Well, I'll start with the negatives.

Kun and Winwin are SHOCKINGLY underdeveloped I couldn't believe my ears. Winwin I kinda get cos he's been active with them for a total of like 5 days loool but KUN?? He's BEEN around so I'm genuinely surprised at how far behind he is in his singing skill. I get that he wants to be a producer but you should still be good at your day job imo.

Now for the positives. XIAOJUN YOU BEAUTIFUL TALENTED ANGEL. I'll be your bitch anyday (you'll understand whilst watching the video). His voice man, I need more singing from him. Yangyang was also a pleasant surprise, soo technically gifted!

Yes I will be melting over Hendery whenever he's on scream I'm afraid, he just has IT lol. I go in depth regarding Ten but overall I'd love for his vocals to be as refined and developed as his incredible dancing.

Enjoy!!

I feel the same about Kun. I always wondered why Ten got more vocal lines than him, because I've always thought Kun was a more skilled vocalist. But based on this video, I guess that's not true.

Koko3op

SURELY he was stronger in the past? Or maybe I just wasn't paying attention it seems!

Frida

Enjoyed watching this as always! I always learn something new. LOVE Xiaojun's voice! He's so precious. Are you willing to check out the 127 recording for be there for me as well?

T’araaaaaaa

This was fun to watch!! I loved that your description says “ Xiaojun, I’ll be your bitch” but in the actually video you said “you can tell Xiaojun gets no bitches” lmaoooooooo 😂😂😂😂😂😂 No but seriously..him and Hendery? Whew. Anytime. (even tho Tennie is my ult lolol) Love the Yangyang appreciation!! He has waaaay more versatility than he gets credit for, even as a subvocalist. I think WayV is starting to figure out how to use YY more effectively. Thinking back to Poppin Love where he gets to sing a bit. For Ten, definitely aligned with you! His debut album will be in English and he mentioned he feels more comfortable singing in that language. Not sure if you have, but have you seen the Birthday/Paint Me Naked recording behind the scenes? He sounds much more relaxed there, even though in Birthday he’s singing in high notes most of the time. Kun…yeah man. Not sure what’s been going on with him vocally lately. Because he’s great in Love Talk, Phantom (BOOOO SM for not giving us an Uncut version of that!), and so many other songs. Back To You is the duet ballad he did with Xiaojun and he sounded good in that too. Do you think it could be a confidence thing? I noticed that his body posture is very closed compared someone like Yangyang who seems *very* confident in the studio - standing upright, not hunched over. Anyway, love your analysis as always! You’re funny and your insight is so refreshingly honest! Thank youuu for your workkkk 💚💚💚

Koko3op

Ooo yes forgot about that. I will!

Koko3op

LOOOVEE this comment so much thank you!! I enjoyed filming this. Yeahh maybe something is going on with Kun, I hope he overcomes it because I was SHOCKED. Ooo interesting so Ten does find English more comfortable! That makes a lot of sense now then and no I didn't see those behind recording. I hope they release more someday!

Ya I think Kun's voice is just so light almost like he doesn't have the proper support and then he keeps getting these high parts but seems like he hasn't been properly trained to sing them. Winwin needs some training asap. I love Winwin but boiiii we gotta improve. YangYang is such an all rounder! I would love for him to do solo stuff because he's such a creative person in general. Ten is a lot more confident in English, he's been speaking Thai and English his whole life. After that it would be Korean and then Mandarin. Even thought he promotes a lot in Mandarin now, he's spoken English and Korean for much longer. I do think I hear the difference based on what language he's singing. Maybe his inflection in Mandarin is just off.

i always get SOOO ANGRY when i watch xiaojun absolutely demolish those vocals bc it reminds how sm wastes his talent like he's one of the best vocalists with one of the most unique voices we got in "newer" groups but is so underappreciated bc sm doesnt do shit to promote him and wayv #justiceforwayv #justicefoxiaojun

nnnicole10

Omg I love watching Xiaojun in the studio, he just can't stand still (I guess it also helps him to be more relaxed), it kinda reminds me of Haechan in the studio hahaha I get what you mean with Ten, especially going from Xiaojun straight to him. (I hope this analogy works 😂) Xiaojun sounds like delicate single watercolour brush strokes the whole time, very intentional, where as Ten, in some parts of his voice, almost sounds a bit like he's just slapping paint on a canvas - both get the paint down and the art done, but it's a different method. Man i hope that makes as much sense as it does in my head 😂 It's hard because I definitely feel like Ten is more comfortable in English, and I totally understand how difficult it would be to transfer singing across languages - but then YangYang comes up and I'm like well he sounds exactly the same in any language 😂🤷🏼‍♀️ But it's not the same for everyone, i get that! Ten has some absolutely gorgeous parts of his voice, and you always get a good end product - I just hope he puts a bit more time into it, cause he has so much potential vocally. Also them editing it and putting up Xiaojun and Ten at the end switching back and forth does not help Ten - you could put most of the kpop world up to Xiaojun and see a big difference haha I have always thought WayV, and in particular YangYang and Xiaojun, should be getting way more opportunities - they are such incredible idols, so so talented and just not talked about enough in my opinion. Loved hearing your thoughts on this! 🤗💖

ral valerie

I always clocked that kun wasn’t rlly a singer! He always sounded flat even on the record to me

Koko3op

Ooooo I had no idea Mandarin is last, that makes a lot of sense!

Koko3op

That's a PERFECT analogy HAHA! I agree. Ooo yess good point regarding YangYang but yes it really is different for everyone and yes they soooo under utilised for real, they could be doing so MUCH MORE!

Koko3op

Eeeek! But has he always been like this?

Ally

About Ten - if you notice in his scenes he's getting feedback from a female voice aswell as the male directer and it seems like its a mandarin speaker helping correct his pronunciation. His eyes keep flicking to them when he pronounces the syllable he's getting corrected on (I'm not a chinese speaker but the subs romanise it as "cuo" early on and she corrects him on the very specific "c / ts / ch" sound like 3 times over this video). So I definitely think hesitating about pronunciation is contributing to his lack of confidence. But yh would love for him to improve his technique and become even more well rounded. I'm so curous about Winwin's whole... thing around singing. The members constantly try to get him to sing in casual settings and he always freezes up and refuses to- I don't understand how you can be a singer and seemingly hate singing lmao? Well I suppose I can for some idols unfortunately, but when you're an SM wouldn't you use the resources at your disposal so that you're not like... scared to sing your own song in public? In your opinion do you think he's worked with SMs vocal coaches (surely he must have as a trainee) and just didn't improve? I'm curious whether you think he seems like someone who just doesn't have "it" or whether you think vocal training could still make him a better singer and he's just not making it a priority. Didn't Taemin improve a bunch through vocal training, so it's possible right? (Also the shame about WayV is compared to other groups their age, they've had vastly less stage experience, the long hiatuses, 12 months + between album releases, never had proper concerts as a group etc- I feel like all of them would improve if they were gaining experience consistently promoting as singers but unfortunately they haven't had as many opportunities. Here's hoping for brighter days ahead for them though)

Koko3op

Ahhh soo many great points here, I'll start with your last paragraph and say I agree, their lack of stage experience and comebacks is ABSOLUTELY slowing down their singing progression. Now with Winwin to answer your question I actually think he HAS a decent instrument, his tone and pitch is good enough however you can't force a horse to drink right? He may have had lessons but I don't think he was motivated to obsessively improve in the way we saw Taemin's growth and even V. He may have done some lessons half heartedly but not really followed through. Look at Beyonce and Kelly, they both had the same vocal lessons we can speculate until at least the early/mid days of Destiny's Child's success yet natural tone and timbre aside, Beyonce's technicality is BOUNDS and BOUNDS ahead of Kelly's simply because she obsessively wanted to improve so only time will tell with Winwin considering his dance background doesn't compliment Wayv's dance style usually he's a weak link all around sadly.

CM

Xiaojun continues to shine. Also I want to know who did the demo, because their vocals are sick.

Angel

I swear kun never sounded like this……..also there’s a recording with Kun in it ‘Nct U from home recording” and it sounds bad :(

Angel

I really enjoyed YangYang in this vid

Koko3op

Damn! So he's never been good??

cali

i know im super super late on this but i ended up thinking about this and wanted to voice it somewhere hehe x) i feel like yangyang is super underutilized which is why hes so underrated. i love when they give him standout singing or dancing parts and i wish they pushed him for more than rapping (although i get why when you have THEE dancer ten and THEE singer xiaojun in your group) but iirc he was able to cover kun's parts in a few of their songs very nicely when he was absent for certain schedules, and he's a really great dancer, just outshined by the others often :( xiaojun is my ult of all ult biases i think he deserves the world and more than that but i have such a soft spot for yangyang, i wish sm focused on him a little more
