What I've learned so far is pick your poison when it comes to black characters in animation... except for my GOAT Missy from Big Mouth! I'll even overlook that she was voiced by a white woman for half of the show 😂

Fantastic video! Will obviously be commenting on the video when it drops for the algorithm. Never felt more seen when you both were like, "I like the Cleveland Show." Watched the entirety of it four times when I was a teenager. It's my guilty pleasure. I think. And that editing comment. Whenever I get stuff like, "I listen to the video to fall asleep." I'm like, that's cool for the algorithm but like, can you watch? Maddening

I was an annoying cartoon obsessed kid and once told my teacher she looked liked female hermes so she looked it up on the computer probably thinking it was a kids show and she was not happy

Dope vid as always, Futurama is always a fascinating show for me because like it'll make me laugh consistently even after I've seen like every episode (other than the Hulu ones) like five times, but also it is so aggressively dated so often. Bend Her and Neutopia are definitely stand out eye roll episodes, I swear the nerds that wrote this show have the worst takes on gender you've ever heard. But yeah I fully agree, what made the show work best was when the characters were all so far outside the realm of "normal" television. The free nature of working in an entirely different time and reality from our own let these characters be more than just your average stereotypes, which is why it would always be frustrating to see the writers fall back on those stereotypes anyways, especially as time went on and you'd expect them to know better by now. I do also hope if nothing else that Hermes is a stepping stone of a character future writers and projects learn from in both the positives and negatives.
