"But Life With Derek...? It's kind of on the same plane" LMAO This is just such a fun movie to me. And yeah, a lot of it has to do with SMG's performance and character. I don't really root for the romance in this movie; in fact, I get a bit bored towards the end up until THAT scene. But still such a blast I will say though that I think my least favorite part about the movie is Cecile. I feel like Selma Blair was playing her like she was in a slapstick comedy while the rest of this movie played off of the dark comedy aspect. She just always feels super unrealistic and overacted every time I watch Cruel Intentions. Feels more like her character belongs in a parody movie like Scary Movie or something BUT! Loved your reaction to this considering we rarely see you react to something so...blunt and "risque" for lack of a better term

OMG, I can't believe you listened to us and actually watched this! I can't wait to see your reaction.

She was in a short lived tv series legal sit-com with Robin Williams and another short lived series called "The Ringer" that I thought should have ran longer. There's also... The Return (horror film) Veronika Decides to Die (psychological thriller) Harvard Man (very 90's for 2001) Suburban Girl (A rom-com...ish) Possession (a supernatural drama/suspense/romance/psychological thriller/horror) To name a few

Johnny Coleman

Wolf pack, 1 season, she's an executive producer and plays a role in it

A few BTS items of which I am aware: Ryan Phillipe and Reece Witherspoon met on the set of this film and later married in 1999. They had 2 kids together but split in 2006, finalizing their divorce in 2008. I kind of remember their marriage being slightly scandalous at the time because they were quite young and Reece was pregnant with their first child when they tied the knot. This film won SMG and Selma Blair an MTV movie award for "Best Kiss" in 2000. SMG was originally considered for the Annette character but she really wanted to play Kathryn. She pushed hard to get that role (and she was fantastic, the girl can do anything IMHO). Joss Whedon was not impressed with the movie and personally I think he was pissed that this is what she chose to do in her hiatus from BtVS. He called it a "porny", which offended Sarah and in a subsequent interview she demanded an apology from him. I'm not sure if she ever got one. There is another, much more accurate film version of Les Liasons Dangereuses (i.e., the book that "suggested" this movie), which was made in the late 80's, called Dangerous Liasons and starred Michelle Pfieffer, Uma Thurmon and John Malkovich. SMG was in several horror movies in the 90's (maybe that's why you thought this was a scary movie, Darcie? Or maybe because we commenters kept saying it was "scary" in jest- scary due to its inappropriate nature, ha ha). Some of Sarah's horror films include: I Know What you Did Last Summer (where she met her husband, Freddie Prinze Jr.) Scream 2 The Grudge. She was also of course in the Scooby-Doo movies. And she had a cameo in a Netflix black comedy called Do Revenge, in which she sort of reprised a more mature version of her Kathryn character.

That escalator scene + teenage girls in the late 90s = FEELINGS

Jayme

actually, the more i think about it, Darcie has gotta watch Ringer cuz you can't get more SMG than that show...she plays two characters (some could say four ;) just a thought haha

This was such a surprise Sunday Funday treat!!!! We should watch Bring It On, next! Faith is in it! 👩🏻🤸🏻‍♂️🧛🏻‍♂️🙃 😊

I'm in the minority here, but I actuality hate this movie, lol. It is Iconic and shocking with the first watch through, the more I watch it the more I dislike it. None of the characters are particularly likeable. I found it fun watching it with you though.

Harriet Loughnan

As someone who watched this film as a teen, I will say its legacy is 100% in the soundtrack. I bought it during itunes heyday and still listen to it. SMG is hot as hell though.

The Oracle Witch

What's funny is as a kid I loved this movie but barely understood it 🤣 watched again as an adult and was icked by it. Watched again with you and had a whole another appreciation the cast and the great acting. I absolutely love Selma Blair, have you seen the sweetest thing with her and Cameron Diaz and Christina applegate? Such a fun movie. Selma and SMG are still good friends til this day. I wonder if this was before or after buffy and Ryan did I know what you did last summer. Also, sorry this is such a long comment- I also wanted to ask if you ever read Lois Duncan? She was the author of the book the movie was made from but honestly all he writings are so campy/mystery and good. Daughters of Eve was my favorite. If you're a fan of Reese Witherspoon, I definitely recommend the movie Freeway. She seriously KILLS it in that movie. I just watched it and holy shit batman was it good.

I was in high school when this movie came out and remember seeing it in the theater. The Counting Crows song when they get together for the first time is iconic. I was for sure in the right age range for it to hit. One of the biggest things about this movie was that in real life Ryan Philippe and Reece Witherspoon fell in love while filming this and ended up getting married.

Ray D

There is a scary movie that has both Sarah Michelle Geller and Ryan Philippe (and Freddie prinze jr) all in it. It’s called, I know what you did last summer. I’d put that on your list t for completion of the SMG movies.

“CHARLIE CONWAY?!” 😂 Big up the Mighty Ducks fans.. Also, you’re not wrong, the soundtrack is absolutely insane, such good music!

Pauline Robertson

Was just checking but no one has mentioned the rom-com she did called 'Simply Irresistible'. such a sweet movie and she's adorable in it😍

Linda Sanchez

I barked a laugh so loud at the Cruel Summer fan edit at the end someone in an office in a different hallway asked if I was okay. 😂😂

Tiffany Pischel

One of my favorite, but kind of odd movies with SMG is Simply Irresistible. The plot is kind of silly - there is a magic crab, lol. But I’ve always enjoyed it.

Sarah

Sarah Michelle Geller was in a romcom the same year Cruel Intentions came out called ‘Simply Irresistible’ I remember really liking it but I haven’t seen in it years

kittenpoker

SMG was great in Veronica Chooses to Die, but the movie may be triggering for some people

Magda - RedundantHuman

“Veronica Decides To Die” is one of my favourite books. I’ve read it both in Polish and English. It wasn’t a hit but was happy to see it come to life. I love that Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon fell in love on this movie and went on to married and have kids.

Ephinyus

The tv show SMG was in with Robin Williams was called The Crazy Ones. It was the last show he did before he passed. I really liked the show, and never missed an episode when it aired.
