Sarah Jane Smith is the most popular companion of the original run. She traveled with both the 3rd and 4th doctors in the 70s. She even has her own spinoff, the Sarah Jane adventures that’s geared more towards children. The actress, Elisabeth Sladen unfortunately passed away in 2011 from pancreatic cancer at 65. The day she died was almost a day of mourning in England because the character and actress were so beloved by the public. Also Giles and K9. I’ve been waiting for this one for a while.

Probably one of my fav episodes in the whole show 🥹 Sarah Jane’s return! And also many NuWho fans first introduction to her (including mine!) but David and Elisabeth do such a good job that you can FEEL their history and the love for each other 😭 The conversation he has with Rose about how he has to live on alone, the realisation she has that she’s not the first, that Sarah Jane could be her future… just peak television honestly I think RTD said that the reason the Doctor doesn’t talk about his previous companions is because if he stopped to think about each of them for even 5 minutes he’d crumble. My boy still has a lot of baggage at this point in his life that he has not processed!!! 😭 “I used to have so much mercy. You get one warning. That was it.” AND RUPE!!!! Anthony Head always turns the party, AND K9!!!!!!

That dog really tugs at the heartstrings.

This would be a good time to go check out The Sarah Jane Adventures. It is young teen-focused, but still a lot of fun. I also love your black cat suggestion for the Tardis!

Everyone has "their Doctor". But Sarah Jane was "my companion". I still can't watch this episode without tearing up.

Firstly, excellent reaction to Rupe Secondly, I didn't know we were supposed to actually know the answers to the science questions but there you were, answering away :')

Count me in as another one for whom Sarah Jane was my first companion (I was a lot younger then). And it's not a spoiler for the TV series to say that the tie-in novels of the early '90s did put a cat in the TARDIS...

Sarah Jane was also the Doctor’s companion when David Tennant was growing up and watching the show 🥹 so his line “Goodbye… MY Sarah Jane.” Hits on more than one layer 😭🫶🏼

Giles/Mr Finch actor Anthony Head passed away today aged 72 :(
