Oh I forgot about this one… yeah I can’t defend it 😅 Other than the fact that the alien in this episode was designed by a literal schoolchild, in a lil “design a monster” contest run by the BBC, so that’s cute 😊 Pretty sure they wrote this episode to be Doctor/Rose-lite so that David and Billie had more time to film the finale or something! Still, at least you made it 😌🫶🏼💛

I'm gonna be the guy who really likes this episode. It's funny and good. I'd even say it's easily the best episode since 'The Girl in the Fireplace'. For me, none of the previous five episodes of the season are particularly impressive, and this is at least something different. It's also the most I've liked Jackie so far in the show.

This episode is rough, but there is a sweet story behind it. The monster was designed by a kid, who won a competition. The kid got to visit the set and see his creation come to life

It was worth it to see Moaning Myrtle in the wild.

Oh, I recognize the guy now, too. It's Blithe, from Band of Bros.

This is one of my least favorite episodes ever, the Abzorbaloff thingy is super gross and weird, and the Ursula Slab is truly awful, and it kind takes away from the rest of it. BUT I love how Elton tells his story, if I pay enough attention to this episode I even cry at the end with his conclusion... i love Jackie (always, but) in this one, she's so pretty, so vulnerable, and so strong... and I love LINDA Investigations as well (fun fact: in portuguese, "linda" means "beautiful woman")

I have never considered this episode to be peak cinema, but I do appreciate the perspective you get from someone who meets the Doctor briefly, then has to live with that memory in a normal world as a normal person. They're not Rose, who got the first adventure and then got to continue traveling through time and space. They just had the one encounter, and then nothing.

This was an excellent reaction to one of the least favourite episodes of the majority. I'm not sure if I have a least favourite but I never think oh lets just put on Love & Monsters so theres that. As someone else said, it's really the love life with the slab that haunts this episode more than anything else in it (including the alien, it doesn't bother me one bit). Why would the Doctor do that to not only Ursula but Elton? That man needs to move on, get some therapy etc and now he's been doomed to a life with a slab. And I know we shouldn't think too hard but what happens when he dies exactly? She's an immortal slab 😅 Anyways, otherwise it's solid in terms of getting to see more Jackie, a cute little group and Rose's hair in plaits :)

Omg not this one....the fact she lives forever as a bloody paving slab....its so weird

I have such a love hate relationship with this episode because for every good moment like seeing Jackie living life without the Doctor or Roses antics but then you have the Absorboloff

Yeah I usually watch the Jackie moments and then skip this episode lol. Kind wish the episode was just focused on Jackie tbh.

How the hell did "we even have a love life" get passed the censors?? truly unhinged way to go out

I am a Love and Monsters Truther! I love this episode with all my heart paving slab and all. if she is happy about it then why shouldn't we leave them be. Me and my mum have alway said to us this is miles better than the girl in the fireplace.

Hey! Binge watching your fab reactions! So... bit of context for you. This was a double-bank episode. This meant it had a very specific production function. When Series 2 was commissioned, it was commissioned alongside the 2005 Christmas Special but not granted any more filming days than Series 1. They had to film 14 eps including an hour special in the time of 13. Hence, double-banking! This ep was designed to have minimal Doctor and Rose so they could film the Satan Pit two-parter simultaneously. As well as this, children's magazine show Blue Peter had launched a Design-a-Monster competition. The winner (the Abzorbaloff) would feature in the double-banker. This meant that RTD (showrunner/writer) was experimenting with a new format (Doctor-lite) while trying to fit in a monster designed by a 10-year-old. I think with those constraints the episode does remarkable things and paves the way for stone-cold classics...
