That ending! What a start to series 6!

I've mentioned this before but this is a perfect example: when River just simply jumps from the 5th (?) floor, she just knows the Doctor is going to catch her. She trusts him with her life!! And he always comes trough, because he has to [but she doesn't know this little detail]. Everytime River jumps from places to her death I always think about this dynamic. Love it!!

The first/last kiss thing is quite easy. Yes, they go in opposite directions, and she says "spoilers!" if he wants to tell her about the last time they met (for him, which is in _her_ future). So if this was his first kiss with her, and he tells her that, it's spoilers for her, because in that moment, she found out, that for her, it was their last kiss.

Mimi

So, this is the first time the doctor has kissed river, and she's traveling back into his past (which is all the episodes we've already seen!) So the next time she meets him in his past, he won't have kissed her yet, which means THIS river, will never be able to kiss him again!

Andrew Nicholson

Glad youre loving this. Enjoying your reactions and speculation, it helps me rediscover the fun of the revelations all over again, in very congenial company. This is, in my opinion, the best era of Dr Who, up to and including the 50th anniversary. Sadly, it begins a slow decline after that, but this is peak Who. …And i only just realised the easter egg about Dr “Shepherd”…! And of course, that fella Moffats messing with you again. You’ll see. P.s. loving the teddy bear ears hairdo. Pps. Its not 100% true River & the doctor are *exactly* going in reverse. ( she mentions something in her death speech that we haven't seen yet & *her* first meeting with the doctor is not the *last* time we see her)…but yes, from her point of view the romance is sadly nearing its end. If & when you get time, it’s interesting to revisit “silence in the library” knowing more about her. Ppsps. The tight riding trousers that emphasise your backside, as modelled by River recently, are Jodhpurs. That name confuses some reactors. Knowing this may become relevant later.

Ian Smith

During his time as show-runner Moffatt came in for a certain amount of criticism (unfairly, imo); but one thing everyone agreed was that the man thought ahead long-term....sometimes planning plot arcs several seasons long! River Song is a good example.

Michael Fallon

Correct about River Song. It's not quite opposite. It is very wibbly-wobbly.

Andrew Nicholson

I think whether this is truly her last kiss with him depends on what happens offstage during a certain night thats yet to come. One would suspect she gets plenty. … But certainly would have been her suspicions at the time. And for everyone, and everything….time traveller or not…theres a last time.

Joe Cleveland

In 1967, the U.S. Supreme Court heard the case of Loving v. Virginia and ruled in favor of Richard and Mildred Loving that their marriage was legal and laws preventing it were unconstitutional. It took a few years for all of the states to stop trying to enforce their anti-miscegenation laws, though. Isn't it great that their name was _Loving_?

Andrew Nicholson

Yes - personally i think those criticisms were more illuminating about the limitations of his critics. His run wasnt perfect, but it was still an excellent show during his tenure.

Mimi

Well, yes, but obviously I was just trying to explain why River would say that, whilst trying to keep it simplified and spoiler free...!!!

Daniel McGuinness

I do believe he forgot about the Silence plot point until now tbh 😅

Lais

yeah, i think there's a little spoiler in there Andrew...

Neil Silverman

These first two episodes really set up a ton of stuff for the season, didn't they? Not much to add, but 11, Amy, and Rory are the sweet spot of Doctor Who for me.

Joe Cleveland

Perhaps we should refrain from lauding or defaming what is to come so that Darcie is as free as she can be as she takes her journey through Doctor Who? Let's just be with her where she is.

Michael Fallon

Agreed with Joe Cleveland. Darcie, without doubt, will form her own opinion and she has done with past episodes that she found not to be on point.

Andrew Nicholson

Noted. Apologies, let my enthusiasm get the better of me.

The best thing about this series is we finally get the introduction of the biggest fan favorite companion: Richard Nixon.
