Liam Catterson

Oh my god I just saw this pop up on my notifications and shrieked a little. Paul's Doctor is in my top three Doctors of all time (Pretty much helped with his audio performances but this is iconic), cannot wait to watch this gem

PropheticSage

Oh shit flashing back to the GOAT 8

Ned Stark

do we still get agents of Shield today?

Death Lego

Oh my god, this is such a surprise...... 🤪

J

Omg a Doctor Who movie Saturday??

Neil Silverman

I don't remember you saying this was coming... but it is a pleasant surprise! Looking forward to watching this later today.

AppEyes

It's a Doctor, but not the one I was expecting!

Andrew Nicholson

Glad you liked it. Quite possibly my favourite ever Tardis design. Your questions will be answered eventually. If you fancy an old series episode again, I recommend “The Five Doctors”.

Jamie Revell

Such a long time since I've seen this! Some questions I can answer without being spoilery: You thought you might have recognised the actor playing the Master - maybe, although his sister is way more famous than he is. The only bit that's not generally considered lore is the "half-human" thing, since it's never mentioned before or since and has pretty much been contradicted. And is there lore about what happened between this and Nine? Oh, goodness, yes. Some it's spoilery, but, aside from a slew of novels in the late '90s, there are well over 100 episodes that exist on audio only, with the same actor playing the role, although with different companions for copyright reasons. For many fans, they are Eight's true era, since there's so little on video.

Robert Soden

Of course, Paul McGann's most famous role was as 'I' in the cult movie to end all cult movies, Withnail and I.

Ray D

The person that plays The Master is Eric Roberts. Brother of Julia Roberts and father of Emma Roberts

Ian Smith

Great reaction. Many of your questions may be answered in the fullness of time; but I do want to say one thing, regarding the 'half human' stuff. Part of the funding for the movie came from Universal, and they insisted that the Doctor NOT be completely alien,as they believed that North American audiences would never be able to sympathise with a lead character who was not human. The resultant success of Dr Who in North America has since put paid to THAT idea! Indeed, this movie clearly doesn't seem to take the idea seriously either: the Doctor makes a joke about it being on his mothers side; while the Seventh Doctor actually insists (on his death bed) that he is NOT human! This example is but one of many such inclusions and compromises that needed to be shoehorned into the script. Several books have since been written (and one feature length Documentary, called "Doctor Who am I?") about the convoluted story of how this movie actually came to be made. As you gradually approach the milestone of the shows 50th anniversary, it would be,imo, a good thing for you to dip your toes a little more into its past. May I suggest that you watch/react to the very first episode, from 1963, "An Unearthly Child"? It's only 25 minutes in length, but it does a LOT!

Got this earlier than expected. Of course it's very 90's and camp, but it's great that you're wanting to dive into the pre 2005 stuff so soon!

7 has some really fun stories in the classic series with his companion Ace. It’s very low budget 80s in the best way when he was the doctor. Not sure that I love this version of the show. I’m happy it didn’t lead to a series because it felt like they were tying to Americanize the show and I don’t think that would have taken despite Paul McGann being good for the part

Michael Jones

There are a number of audio adventures with Paul McGann as the 8th Doctor available from Big Finish. No Grace, though.

J

Ayye 1999? The year I was born 😇 Watching this for the first time with you

Neil Silverman

That was way cheesier than I remembered it, but then I only saw it once when it first aired.

Ethan Burke

I’m sure many have said but obviously in this movie Gallifrey is very much still around, and when 9 comes around it’s been destroyed so in between the hiatus the Time War occurs. There was no real sort of confirmation for a while that the Movie was actually canon until (I think) an image of Eight is seen in John Smith’s Journal in the Family of Blood two parter. I love Eight’s stuff, most of it exists on audio but some of it is so so good. The TV Movie got a 4K restoration this year for the anniversary and it will always have a special place in my heart. Bonus, you now have seen a little more of Doctor Who history! A little more lore behind some of the characters you know and love🫶🏻

Yeah, they really tried something different with Paul when they tried this out. There were going to be remakes of Classic Who stories. So it was a revival/reboot they were planning. Thankfully it never saw the light of day. There is one idea they were tampering with that they were also planning in Classic Who but I won't go into detail just in case. Yeah, the Daleks sound high as hell. Probs for the best we didn't see them. The music is so epic. Cheesy but epic. But also yeeey, you got a glimpse of the 7th Doctor. Honestly his death is tragic given who he was, which is all I will say. But to avoid confusion, he didn't die from the bullet as one of the doctors said, one went in his shoulder, the other his leg. Grace accidentally killed him because his biology is not familiar with her. Some people tend to forget this because he got shot. He probably would've died if left untreated but Grace operated on him and that was that. And 7 regenerating to 8 is so well done. Probably one of my favourite regenerations in terms of visuals. "I know, it's Jesus" - Yes. Eight is Jesus! Chang's reaction walking into the TARDIS for the first time always kills me. "Nope!" Honestly, the moment Paul became the Doctor for me was that scene with Grace when he is descibing Gallifrey and running in his shoes. Random Officer got to see the TARDIS interior before Grace 8's hair is lightish brown. The closest he's got to ginger. How they played this well with the worried Y2K bug is still great to this day. It is no spoiler the Master escapes the Eye given his appearance in S3. Also that energy that revived Chang and Grace...does it look a little...familiar? Coincidence surely...But what if...

Tuckgrr

And his wife is his actual wife

SunnydaleClassof99

The regeneration is amazing as is the TARDIS interior.

SunnydaleClassof99

It's pretty easy to ignore the half-human. You can chalk it up to delirium from being shot & particularly nasty regeneration.

This was edited by Patrick Lussier. He went on direct a slew of mostly not great horror movies like Dracula 2000 & My Bloody Valentine 3D. I think he's a great editor though & Darcie you'd probably be interested to know the movie he worked on right before this was D3: The Mighty Ducks.

Jonathan Giles

Yes!!!!! Love a big finish production. Currently going through the Paternoster and Torchwood timelines. So good 👍

Dani C

And the Monocled Mutineer

Willos

Would love it if you reacted to the classic series after you finish modern Who

Joe Cleveland

Though I read the novelization, I've never been able to see this one before, so thanks for this! Maybe someday they'll release a region A edition of the 4k remaster? Or put it on BritBox with the rest of classic Doctor Who? What a wacky, lore-centric story to decide to use as an attempt to re-launch the show! I'm not surprised that it didn't work for an American audience.

DSJ.

I ALWAYS DREZZZZZZ FOR THE OCCASION - the single campest moment of Doctor Who, and perhaps of all time. Thank you, Eric Roberts Master.

darcieswatchingbuffy

makes sense about the half human thing!! and okay i will write this ep down - thank you!!!

darcieswatchingbuffy

i love getting more glimpses into past doctors!! i feel like this universe is so big i could have stuff to watch forever lol

darcieswatchingbuffy

oh gosh me too! there is SO much though, but i think shorter episodes so we will have to see!

darcieswatchingbuffy
