Seeing the look on your face when you realized what was going to happen. 😢

Back in season 3, ep 22 (Graduation Day, pt2) Faith foreshadowed Dawn’s arrival and Buffy’s death in the dream sequence: “Miles to go, Little Miss Muffet counting down from 7-3-0”. Dawn is Little Miss Muffet (the crazy guy on the street in 5x2 Real Me also says to Dawn “curds and whey”). 730 counts the days (2 years) to the season 5 finale. It is all foretold in the Buffyverse.

Yes! So much thought goes into every episode on so many levels- even song lyrics at the Bronze and classroom lessons tie into an individual episode’s theme. Not to mention costume colors, lighting effects, camera angles, etc. On every rewatch I catch something new.

**ANGEL SPOILERS** Could this be the same dragon that Angel says he wants to slay in the Angel series finale??

Ashley

The way I just ran to my iPad when I saw the alert for this!!

Ah yes, the Buffy season finale that literally got spoilt in the 'next on Buffy' tv adverts in Australia. Hey, do you think anyone will notice if we include a shot of Buffy's grave? Um, yes, yes we will notice.

Yyeeeeè. watching now! But yes, s5 was potentially going to be the final series. It gets moved to a different network for s6 and s7. So the little montage intro and opening scene of nostalgia was partly for this reason and partly because this was episode 100 :)

Lmao "those dogs are not Dawn's!" I snorted. I thought the exact same, its the first time I've noticed it for some reason haha

Alison

I’m really sorry! That look Buffy gives at the sunrise when she knows it’s her time is heartbreaking. 😢

Tracy Swoops

I cried with you and I’ve seen the series like 23 times lol 😭 next season is just as amazing imo!

Probably the best episode of the entire series. This was the last episode broadcast on The WB before moving to a new network so it was written as a series finale just in case the deal with UPN fell through.

I’ve been watching Buffy since it aired two days after my 7th birthday back in 1997( I had no business watching it). It’s my happy place. But this episode broke my little 12 year old heart as it was billed as a series finale on WB. We had no idea it would be picked up by another network for the next two seasons. For the summer of 2001 I was devastated

Hey Cornpops. We just wanted to take a moment to say thank you for keeping Darcie spoiler free, for the whole series really but this season in particular. Considering how badly many other reactors have been spoiled this is something to be proud of. This really is an excellent group of people. 🟪 Your Mod team

Gosh, the score in this one is quite possibly the best in the entire series, and there's stiff competition. The first time those first two notes hit... once you know what's coming on a rewatch? Oof.

From around midway through Buffy season 2 to the start of season 6 I was on and off the streets with a raging heroin addiction, and I still never missed an episode of the show. I watched episodes on a dinky little black and white portable TV; I rocked up to random friend's places to watch episodes; I went around to late night opening retail stores and pretended to be shopping for TV sets (that just happened to be playing Buffy) to watch episodes; I'd spend a good hour or more wandering around to different bars and cafes that had a TV set, until I found one that would agree to let me change the channel when Buffy came on. I freakin' love(d) this show. During season 5, when I was lurking on the old Buffy boards, I knew season 6 was in the works, and I knew they were looking to move to another network. When this episode was spoiled because of 'next on' adverts, it was like "OMFG panic stations, get me to a computer now!!" I had no idea if the whole grave at the end thing was just a red herring, if something really was going to happen to Buffy, if season 6 was still going ahead, if the network deal had gone through. It was like, "No, goddamnit don't you dare do this to me, do you have any idea the lengths I've gone to to watch this show!" *cue angry fan noises*.

I hate that the whole we made her from you/Dawn being a piece of Buffy was never said in the actual episode with the monk. They added it as part of the previously on but he never said it in the episode. I get they needed to retcon it to make Buffy’s sacrifice work but I will die mad about this.

Season 6 here we come BAYBEEEE

"The hardest thing in this world is to live in it" is my all-time favorite line from the Buffyverse, despite how depressing it is haha. It's just something slightly profound that can be applied to so many situations, so many lives--even outside of the show. This episode solidifies Buffy as my favorite character in all of media history. (Shocking that it isn't Tara--I know) Not just the sacrifice, but everything leading up to it. She's always (rightfully) rejected her destiny, always been one to stand her ground on wanting to live a normal life. But here she is, sacrificing her life and accepting her duty as a slayer in order to save the life of her sister.

Corey

When Buffy was realizing things about her blood and her gift I think they should've added the clip of Spike saying 'every Slayer has a death wish'. As much as I know she did this for Dawn, in this episode we could see how much slaying has taken a toll on her and her missing her mother. I believe she wanted to go and be done.

Ece

Omg I remember watching this ep with my mouth wide open the whole end scene. I just wanna say thank you Darcie, you make my day better every time I watch one of your reactions! Season 6 is my fave, lotsa great episodes, can't wait for you to react to them!

Bud Haven

Even the start when Buffy says "Why don't we start with, Hi I'm Buffy. It gets me. When Buffy is in the alley with the kid. He says, "But you're just a girl." Buffy, "That's what I keep saying." After everything, she still longs to have a normal life. When Buffy turns to the rising sun. Her look is not one of fear or sadness, but of anticipation. Spike said to Buffy in FFL, "Part of you is desperate to know, what it's like, where does it lead you?" "Death is your gift" A gift to Dawn, but also in a way a gift for herself.

Scott Margeson

Yep. Death is our gift.... but this opens the door for the sixth season! I am SO excited to see you venture into that one!! We told you to watch the series, and we allowed you to see the deaths of Jenny, Kendra, Angel, Joyce & now, Buffy! We are EVIL!

Devon Martin

You always have such fun reactions and this one did not disappoint!

Matt

We've been waiting a hundred episodes for you to finally get your dragon! The Buffyverse does grant our wishes sometimes, it just usually comes with an emotional breakdown or six. Love that for us!

Erin

No matter the amount of rewatches, this episode leaves me a WRECK. I loved this reaction as always! I was so excited to see your reaction to the dragon too 😂 I remember you really wanting a woman villain and a dragon from the get-go, and I was like man she is going to thrive in season five lol. As a few have mentioned, this score "Sacrifice" is so beautiful but the beginning of it is such a gut punch when you know what's coming. Buffy's face is so calm and she turns and looks at the sunrise (or the "dawn") and you just realize. Ugh that moment, this whole season! ❤️ I think it's safe to say we're all having a blast rewatching with you!
