I do agree the finale doesn’t fit with the rest of the season, but I tend to think it’s because things on the Buffy side were SO dark that they decided to have Angel go light (kinda literally) in that show’s finale. That way the reveal of Willow at the end hits that much harder cause it brings you back to reality.

Seems like you didn't like the Pylea arc at the end of the season very much. I personally love it. I think it's such a fun and adventure filled way to end the season. And honestly, i think it's a really fun 3 parter to rewatch on it's own. Another thing that I love about Angel that you seem to maybe not is that I love that Angel doesn't really do a season long "Big Bad" the way that Buffy does. Buffy can feel a little formulaic in a way because of that for me. It's like meet the big bad at some point in the first like 7 episodes of a season, spend all season trying to figure out how to kill them and then kill them by the end of the season. Tied up in a nice neat bow. I like that Angel doesn't follow that and has a more free flowing story with different little arcs during a season, Wolfram and Hart are kind of the ultimate villain of the show but we learned from Holland Manners during that Elevator Ride with Angel before he sleeps with Darla that you can't "beat" them. There is no winning against evil. But you fight the good fight for as long as you can because it's the right thing to do. "If nothing you do matters, then all that matters is what you do" is the saying that Angel uses and it's a mission statement for the show. It's not like Buffy where it's, find big bad for the season and beat the big bad for the season. It's that Evil will always exist in some form and you cant win in the end but you can make a difference by fighting the good fight and helping the helpless. So to me, i didn't need to see Angel like defeat Darla at the end of the season in a large battle like how Buffy finales are. Ithink it's great that she's still out there and can reappear at any time and that we can finish the season with a 3 episode arc in Pylea learning about Lorne's world and having a fun adventure.

Wait until you see what comes out of the Pylea arc . I'm pretty sure you'll be eating some of your words .

I just don't think I agree that a season finale always has to be a SEASON FINALE. To me, the unpredictability of the Darla arc being resolved early, and the season ending with something quite different is part of the fun. Darla was never the Big Bad of the season anyway, and after two seasons, I think it's safe to say that maybe Angel (the show) doesn't feel the need to always have a Big Bad. And without a Big Bad, maybe it doesn't always have a season-long arc either.

First time I was watching this season, yeah, the Pylea Arc definitely felt, well misplaced and odd. But once a bit of Season 3 gets going, it makes a lot of sense why it's where it is in the series. And on rewatching it's a very pleasant respite from what's going down on both shows. Shit about to get craaaaazzzeeee. Oh, by the way, no need to fib about the "people working on the other apartment". We know it's just the furries you've got chained up in the basement trying to escape. We all go through it. Just keep em well fed and they'll quiet down. Heh.
