Okay, now I have to go watch Grease 2 to see what it tells us about vampire/vampire reproductive biology.

The main storyline with James doesn’t interest me too much. Him and his girl just feel like a Dollar Store version of Spike and Dru. But I do get the parallels with Angel and Buffy and it leads to great conversations with Angel and Cordy. I also feel like this episode is the show trying to distance itself from Buffy and the lore of Buffy and Angel a little bit. This is the first season where the two shows are on different networks. And it’s pretty obvious that they are trying to do this story without saying Buffy’s name (the title character for a show that’s now on a different network). They say it only once at the very end but that’s it. Then at Angel says that he’s feeling a little bit guilty that losing Buffy didn’t kill him like it did with James and that he will be Ok. So Angel is saying that yes he loved Buffy and she was the love of his life but it’s not a kind of love that will kill him if he loses it. Almost softening the Buffy/Angel relationship a little bit where it’s not life and death for Angel anymore (where in the early Buffy seasons it did feel that way).

Oh and I forgot to mention that it was cool to finally meet Holtz the Vampire hunter that was hunting Angel and Darla in season 2. They talked about him but we never saw him. Including the event that was referenced in this episode where Holtz has them trapped in a barn and Darla ditched Angelous to save herself. We saw that in season 2 but not what Holtz actuary looked like

I think the bathroom scene with Dennis caring for Cordelia might be my favorite scene in all of Angel.

Okay, so story time: I met Andy Hallett (Lorne) a few years before he died. I was living in L.A. and working the graveyard shift in a 24-hour porn store/sex shop on Melrose Ave, and this guy in an Angel jacket walks in. Of course, I have no idea who he is, because he's not green. But when I'm ringing him up, I see his name, and I'm like "Holy shit! You were my favorite character!" We got to talking and he was really nice and down to earth (and I got some inside dish on some of his co-stars, which was pretty funny). He came into the store another time or two, and we just hung out. Really a sweet, funny guy. Gone too soon.
