Ooh, episode 7… Here we go ;). I’m so excited for this one! One of my favorites from the entire series! Oh, and Tears Prediction: Yes, once.

Such an amazing episode. I agree, Buffy’s conversation might be the most interesting, but that turn in Willow’s when she stands up.. it’s almost chilling.. “Who are you?!” .. It sits just outside the top 10 on my all time best eps list, it’s that good imo.

Xander was originally scripted to be in this episode and the conversation he was supposed to be with Jesse from season one, but Eric Balfour wasn't available to do the episode since he was on the show "24" at the time. I genuinely wished we could have gotten that conversation because I feel it would have dived into not only Xander "forgetting" (or supressing) Jesse, but most importantly about how Jesse's death (both human and vampire), affected Xander's viewpoint on vampires in general and how Jesse's death (and then Xander having to kill vamp Jesse) is the REAL root of his hatred for them (ie Angel & Spike)... In episode two, after Buffy and Xander returned to the library after trying to rescue Jesse, Xander is very affected by it and he has a violent outburst of kicking the chair as he's paces back and forth before announcing, "I don't like vampires. I'm gonna take a stand and say they're not good." Fans tend to harp so much on the whole "jealousy" aspect of Xander's hatred, especially with Angel, when I honestly believe it's much deeper than that. Sure, he was jealous of Angel, but that wasn't why he hated him. Xander's hate and distrust was honestly because Angel's a vampire (but fans tend to ignore that part). In the season one finale, he literally tells Angel to his face WHY he dislikes him when he confronted him ("I don't like you. At the end of the day, I pretty much think you're a vampire". He's never aggressively disliked any Buffy dating the human guys she dated (some jealousy maybe, and he actually liked Scott & Riley). Just those two. What do these two have in common?... I really wish we got that conversation. I genuinely think one of the flaws of the series writing in regards to Xander was not going in depth with his emotions like they did the others and playing his traumas for mostly comedic effects (something they rarely did with Buffy & Willow, who's problems and trauma were taken a lot more seriously in the show), which makes it harder for viewers to sympathize/empathize with him from a place of understanding (unless you going into depth and breakdown characters like I do lol) and that conversation would have brought a great chance to providing real, serious understanding of Xander as a person (perhaps 7 years too late, but it would ha e been something)...

There was an early version of the script where Xander would be visited by Jesse (him and willows other best friend from the pilot episode) but it got cut out and as a result, this is the only episode of the series that Xander isn’t in. Also, Amber Benson was asked back to be the person talking to Willow and she declined to do it because she knew there were a lot of Willow/Tara fans that were still hurting over her death and didn’t want to portray the dark turn at the end of the conversation. She wanted to keep Willow and Tara pure as a couple.

Such a boring episode. Just bla bla bla. :P (Gosh, I love this episode.)

One of my favourite episodes, just so well done and I love the horror aspect.

I agree, Darcie, that conversation between Buffy and Webs, the vampire therapist (thera-vamp?) is one of my favorite moments in this episode, if not the series as a whole. Buffy really needed that. As usual, episode 7 in the Buffyverse holds up! A few more inside glimpses into this episode: The date & time given at the beginning is the original air date and time, so if watching in real time, the audience got that chill of, "Oh, this is happening Right Now!". The song "Blue" at the beginning (and end) of this ep was co-written by Joss Whedon specifically for the episode. Performed by Angie Hart.

This is one of my faves, for obvious reasons and some (possibly) less obvious ones. Little things, like: the song playing to Dawn is the same song Buffy was listening to when she broke down and cried while doing the dishes. And how Dawn says “Mom? Mommy?” when she’s trying to figure what’s going on, echoing Buffy in That Episode. Little details; I do love little details.

An inside joke: the vampire tells Buffy that Scott hope came out after high school graduation. Fab Filippo, the actor who played Scott Hope, went on to play a gay character in the TV series “queer as folk” after leaving BtVS.

I, like everyone, love this episode!! It's definitely ranked top tier of the entire series for me. I guessed it would have decent sob moments, because how could you not?! I still cry like a baby sometimes, especially during Dawn and Willow's conversations. This time I actually forgot all about Dawn's part until it started! I haven't rewatched season 7 in a few years. I keep trying to start from 1 and make it all the way through, but end up stuck before I make it to 7. lol. So the reactions are great to help me get through! Back in the day I almost bought a shirt that said, "Anchovies, anchovies, you're so delicious! I love you more than all the other fishes!" Ha ha! Even though I do not like fishes. The first time we saw Mama J I jumped, because I FORGOT!!! How could I forget?! I always remember Buffy and the vamp, and then Willow and Cassie, but I guess maybe I skip a lot of Dawn's when I'm alone, because it's too scary. lol. I even have the song they used in this episode, and when it plays and I'm alone in my car at night I have to skip it, because I'm a whimp. lol This literally was such a jam packed episode without a dull moment. And fricken Andrew!! WTF man?! Just let Johnathan miss high school, even though I could never, and maybe don't stab him! Warren never had good intentions for you before he was flayed!

For the record, I think you were lyin' about being able to take on a lion.

I love that the episode calls Conversation With Dead People, and the only one that we dont hear talking is the actual dead person of the group, Spike
